scroll pad is awful, library is cumbersome and user unfriendly - Itunes is awful. Too many faults to list and it is the only way of loading music onto the Ipod. Sound quality is iffy
If you are the sort of person who would buy something because it looks nice, the iPod is the very fella for you, because I have nothing else good to say about it.
It has no new features compared with my Archos apart from podcasts and does everything else less well - plus the archos does loads of snazzy stuff with add ons such as remote control and video links to tv, card readers.
my sony ericsson mobile phone is a far superior player.

I am now on my second iPod. The first one lasted 18 months - un repairable - threw it away and bought a 30gb. Had this just over 12 months. There was a connection problem with it - would only work by squeezing the bottom right hand corner. Took it back to the shop in Manchester - had to make an appointment to see one of their "geniuses" I thought he was going to be able to repair it - he looked at it and told me what I already knew, that there was a loose collection. No problem he said I can sort this today for you, Just give me £109 and I will give you a replacement one. I don't want a replacement one I said - just repair it please. He said you giving me £109 and me giving you a new one is a classed as a repair.
Apple sell refurbished iPods -
(guess what - my faulty one would then be sent back to Apple who would probably refurbish it and sell it on again). A lot of money to be made out of faulty goods ehh!!

I purchased an iPod nano in November 2007, sent it in for repair in December and January 5 & 15. This last time it was returned to me with missing parts and when I called to talk with them they stated it was not their fault and refused to correct their mess. I now have over $400 into this useless machine and will never purchase from Apple again.

Over-rated. Apple has great sales department and advertising. Unstable machine, not good service. Case scratches too easily even when kept protected.

When it was working I could not really complain. The only annoying thing was that I had a lot of hassle with their software and some songs were louder then the other so I have to keep changing the volume, that was very inconvenient when I was on the move. When the battery died and Apple told me on their website that it cost £166 to replace it I was shocked. I bought a battery from the ipodstop.co.uk for £17 but I could not open the iPod. After reading that Apple planned to have short life-span, fragile hard drives, and planned obsolescence for their iPods I decided not to waste a single penny any more on the Apple products and to buy something else.

The iPod hard drives fail and cannot be fixed. Apple will not repair hard drives, and the cost is equivalent to a new iPod. Apples do not expect hard drives to last for more than a year or so, and eventually all iPod's will break completely. Apple will not do anything to help fix your iPod unless you have Applecare, and even that covers you for only 24 months total.

Ipods are very undependable and extremely expensive to replace. Just go buy a new one. I just bought my daughter an mP3 for her birthday after purchasing 5 ipods, this one was an iRiver. Ipods are overrated and overpriced and not worth what you pay! We have owned enough to have a pretty accurate opinion of them!

I have had 3 ipods which have all had different problems. One kept skipping tracks and would not charge, one wouldn't load any songs and the last one crashed so I've now got a Sony and have always found their products very reliable.

Bought two ipods for my kids at $399 a pop expecting years of service due to the name brand and corresponding support. I also liked the simplicity of the system and integrations with the software player and conversion. The first one crashed at eight months and was replaced for the shipping charges. The other one ran intermittently but held its' data. It crashed 3 weeks after the warranty expired. The other one (which was replaced at eight months ) crashed after one month, but now out of the original warranty. The website offers lots of support suggestions but the hard drive on the 20Gb units is VERY weak so the software help is useless. Buy all the extra warranty you can, then expect it to turn to landfill there after.

I would not buy another IPod. I would first check some of the other brands, like Dell's MP3 player. I have had my IPod for approximately 2 months, and I have had constant problems with it locking up and problems syncing with ITunes (ITunes often does not recognize that the IPod is even there). It is definitely not worth the money. I thought I was buying the top brand, but would not buy this brand again.

Purchased an Apple iPod about 18 months ago with accessories for around $500. First year things went somewhat smooth. However, shortly after warranty had expired, hard drive failed and battery life was non-existent. Attempted to have 'Genius Bar' at Towson store troubleshoot problems...however, w/ a superior attitude refused to examine iPod saying it was out of warranty but did offer to sell me a new iPod for $300 or to have my old one fixed for $250 (that's w/o diagnosing any issues). So at this point I CAN NOT recommend this product. My iPod experience has soured my impression of Apple to the point where I will never buy a product of theirs ever again. Spend $500 for a year of service and then told to jump in a lake. Very disappointed in how Apple treated me as a customer.

I now have an extinct Apple iPod mini portable MP3 player!! It's like rocket science sometimes trying to get it to work. It says the software needs updating etc., but I can't do it, and it gives me no options of how to fix it. There are a lot of problems regarding software.
All in all, I think it's rubbish, and I would recommend Creative Zen MP3 players over the iPod any day.

The battery life on the Apple iPod MP3 player is rubbish! I've only had mine for 3 months, and now when I charge the iPod it turns off saying there is no battery power! When it does work, it only last for 3 hours before it needs charging. I should have got the Sony one. My brother bought that a month ago, and it still doesn't need to be charged!!!

The Apple iPod MP3 player has a horrible warranty standard.
It scratches easily, it keeps breaking down, and there is no support.

I sent my first Apple iPod back twice. Finally, the 2nd time they realized that their product was in fact defective and sent me iPod #2.
iPod #2 - After three attempts at transferring songs from iTunes, it finally seemed to be working. Wrong! It transferred 4 songs out of 6500.
Numerous calls to Apple did nothing. Once again it was my PC's problem not the unit's. I then had a friend who also owns an iPod try it on his PC. Same results.
Still awaiting the return box.

I recently received an Apple ipod as a gift. I have initial set up problems and contacted customer support, using my ONE free support service (any future problems will cost $40 each). Following the return of the first ipod, I was sent another ipod that is incapable of keeping a charge for more than 1 day (unused). I am terribly disappointed with the product I purchased, the service provided by Macintosh, and the fact that I am stuck with a product that is pretty much not usable!

The ipod is a terrible product, ear foams do not fit snuggly, so you can lose them easily. I called Apple for a refund, but they wouldn't. I asked for a replacement even though they were cheap, they wouldn't. They said it would be $9.99 and they're made in China! they are really out there to get your money, they're really a rip-off!

Sheer waste of money. I bought the 60 gb one 10 days back, and I want to sell it already. It has the worst quality and is a poor product by a brand like Apple.

I purchased a 20GB Apple iPod Photo and returned it a day later. Some of the downsides I found to the player were specific to me alone, and shouldn't be counted against the iPod in general. I found that 20GB has far too much storage space, and I can't fill it with songs that I will actually listen to. The iPod is also fairly small, considering its storage capacity, but still too large for me. I don't have enormous hands but they're not small either, and with the iPod and my hand in my pocket at the same time, I had no room to use the controls easily, thus I would need a remote. These 2 reasons are specific to me. The rest are not.
The iPod is too smooth. Without looking at it, in my pocket, I couldn't tell if I was actually pushing on a button, and many times upon pulling it out of my pocket I realized I was pressing on the back of the device! The touch wheel is a bit too sensitive and sometimes, while walking, the volume would go up without my touching it. I realize there's a hold button to combat this but that should be used by choice, not necessity. The battery life of the iPod is short too, even the iPod shuffle only lasts 12-15 hours, whereas the Sony NWE407 Walkman (flash memory) or the NetMD last forever on a single charge, or in the MD's case, an AA battery (something like 50 hours). As far as I'm concerned Sony's R & D in battery technology was money well spent!
Lastly, and this is the biggest one, the iPod's sound quality was awful. I'm comparing it to my previous portable, the Sony NetMD. No matter what EQ setting I chose, I could never seem to get a full range of sound, particularly bass. If I chose a setting with increased bass it seemed to bottom-out the headphones, causing some distortion. Even different headphones (the same ones I used with the MD player) didn't help. After returning my iPod, I purchased a Sony NWE407 1GB flash player and I am VERY impressed. The sound it produces is amazing.
One last personal beef is that iTunes is not very intuitive. It seems like Apple likes to dumb things down for their users, and iTunes is evidence of this (in my opinion). I have a fairly large collection of music that I have no problem managing on my own on the hard disk, I don't need iTunes to do it for me. The Sony's drag-and-drop approach to adding music is beautiful, simple, and intuitive to any computer user, using folders to group songs into playlists. That was a long rant. I'm done now.

Apple iPod MP3 Player.
How you can have apple care protection, and then after purchasing a 400 Dollar unit, which you expect to work, they then send you a refurbished one????
