Dream Thoughts is set in ancient Greek times, I had no idea they settled ancient Gaul (south). The tribes interest me are Celts - sorry - Keltoi as the Greeks apparently called us babarians at the time.

The new colonists have to choose who to side with and link up with a Kelt leader. There is a thread of tongue in cheek humour about colonists that runs through the book which I enjoyed - especially when there is a verbal confrontation. There is treachery and some surprises which unfold in interesting by play with some vivid slices of history included. This one I really enjoyed. Like I said before, it takes time, a few chapters at a go. Not that I can see what or who could have been left out.

All the characters - and there are many have their day in the sun and important to the plot. There is an on going line about getting a mysterious girl back to her homeland. The plot thickens to set up book three. The scenes are big vista and like watching a film in parts. The whole series would make great cinema, still they read well enough to imagine it all.
