This laptop is heavy and slow and apparently not even recognised on the Samsung official website. Furthermore, upgrading components seems to be near-impossible.

Now my laptop screen no longer works, after 3 years, due to the cracks in the case. Nobody is willing to accept responsibility, including me. Samsung claim it is 'wear and tear' but I refuse to accept it should that, as it is a laptop and is meant to be opened and close. Has anyone else encountered this problem? At present I do not recommend Samsung V25 laptop.

The sound device stopped working when the ''function key and sound down'' keys were used. Subsequently the report ''no sound device found'' appeared when tried to diagnose problem. Comment me for suggestions please.
The above is the only problem encountered by the user. Otherwise all round excellent product.

My Samsung V25 laptop has run and run for over 3 years now. I love it, the day it dies I will be very sad and I shall bury it in my garden!

If I was to go out and buy another laptop tomorrow I would defiantly buy another Samsung - if i could just make the hard drive a bit bigger then I defiantly wouldn't want to buy a new laptop.

I've had this Laptop for over 3 years now. It gets used almost daily, and it's often taken to friends houses or my place of work.
This is my first ever laptop and I am impressed with its build quality, apart from a problem with charging, which was traced to the jack-point for the power pack coming loose from the PCB.
However, even that was simple to fix once I'd found all the hidden screws keeping it together.
All in all, the Samsung V25 is a good bit of kit, and it prompted me to buy a Samsung Digital TV!

I bought this Samsung V25 Laptop well over two years ago & it is still running!
Initially the screen did go all blank & you couldn't see a thing. I put this down to it being a display model but that is no excuse! Anyway, rang up Samsung who picked it up within 24 hours and returned it, fixed like brand new!!!
Still, there are certain things about it which if I had known before I would have looked at as an alternative choice.

I have been very happy with the Samsung V25 until my recent problems with the mulitdrive. Hopefully this will be repaired and I can continue to enjoy this laptop.

This is an update to my review of the Samsung V25 and I hope it will act as a warning to anyone looking at a Samsung Product.
It is now February 2005 and I still cannot get Samsung to repair my notebooks CD rom DVD drive without posting it hundreds of miles away.
They operate by you posting your laptop to them, which can be hundreds of miles from where you are and at your own cost. A risk not worth taking I believe. Therefore it looks like I will have to buy a replacement myself again not an easy task to find a supplier.
Their administrative service team did say they'd post me a replacement but nothing has arrived. Since then I've contacted them and gone around in circles with no one taking ownership.
Be warned - this has gone on since November 2004 for me.
If you wish to buy one of their products then ensure you have a service centre close on hand.
You have been warned!

I bought my Samsung V25 on 26th of december 2003. At first I was a little disappointed with build quality, but put aside it was overall a brilliant product for the money. Until I tried to play a dvd, it just kept skipping, I rang customer service but they were no help. Now (6/1/05) my laptop is away for repair, on the hard drive and the disk drive, once I recieve it back, I am going to sell it, I've had enough. I'm glad that there is a site like this so now I know I am not alone with this problem.

Bought my Samsung V25 in Feb 2004 . After 9 months of use the cd rw dvd player has stopped working and cannot seem to locate the cd or dvd.
Purchased the Samsung over a less well known make originally as I thought the larger reputable company would have better service provision should something go wrong.
However, this has not proved the case with the typical to and fro of correspondence that they don't seem to read and the usual frustration in using their website and phone systems and locating help.

My Samsung V25 spec is 2.66 P4, 512 meg RAM, 30 gig HD, DVD RAM/R/CD multi-recorder. RRP £999 but I paid less (50%!) as my Laptop is ex-display.
What can I say. This is a large, powerful and versatile machine at this spec. It lacks the sophistication of the Centrino models and its size could make it look over bearing but with the DVD recorder, optical digital out and reasonable quality from the shared graphics it could be the base for portable home cinema, or a low specced gaming laptop. For more conventional use, it is solidly built with a keyboard that has a nice action, three hot keys for internet, mail and a configurable key (set to calculator as default). The serial port, svid out and mike/headphone jacks are housed behind a somewhat flimsy flap and I suspect this will be found wanting on these in later life.
This beasty runs hot, cooling seems to be taken care of by a heatpipe system cooled by 2 fans that come on when the temperature dictates. Despite the title laptop, this cannot be used for extended periods on your lap without becoming a tad uncomfortable! This is the price you pay for the power the P4 brings you.
I like it. It remains to be seen if it is reliable, but it had about 90 hours on it prior to my owning it and it seems very stable, even when hot.

I have had the P4 2.4 model for 6 months and I have just had to send it back to Samsung because the CD-R/DVD Combo drive went completely dead. Also the plastic flap that covers the headphone socket has broken off and the paint is wearing off in places.

Getting discounts is about footwork and sniffing out the bargains. Many of the returned/ex display items are offered to staff of the retail outlets first, so the real bargains are thin on the ground. I have to admit mine was an opportunist buy, working on the premise that it could be sold for the purchase price or some of the cost recouped by selling some/all of the memory or the DVD-RW drive if I did not want or need it. Even now after several months use it would probabaly fetch what I paid for it. You just have to be vigilant, or find a friend in the retail industry!

WOW - where do you get laptops for 50% less? I don't mind refurbished machines or ex-display stock for such a fantastic price. Please advise!!!

This Samsung V25 laptop is a perfect laptop for those who are into gaming, (hence the 64MG graphic card) however it is not recommended for travelling often, which i do, and i find it a pain in the neck to lug this heavy big laptop place to place, but it does make an excellent desktop replacment

All round, The Samsung V25 is an excelent laptop. Iv had mine (the 2800) for a few weeks now, and cannot really fault it so far. Have had no major problems, apart from a slow(ish) optical drive speed. Otherwise, a briliant laptop - recomended!

Could you tell me if your V25 makes a mechanical banging noise when it does not except a disc?
