Remind Me Again Why I Married You

Rita Ceresi

Delta, Jan 2004, $14.00

Five years ago Lisa Diodetto married her boss Eben Strauss (see PINK SLIP). They have had one child, adenoid decibel maker Danny and lisa have unsuccessfully tried for a second kid though Lisa has doubts about another wunderkind keeping her up at night snoring peacefully. Lisa works on a novel whose story line is a marriage falling apart. Ebb hates her work as he internally personalizes the theme. In other words marriage has not led to happily ever after for Lisa.

A depressed Lisa seeks some contentment so she looks into buying a house. However, she wonders if the realtor has the hots for her spouse though she knows Ebb's constipation problems cramps any trysts. Still looking for a shade of sunshine Lisa meets a New York literary agent at a Manhattan sushi bar. She finds him even slimier than the food. Lisa concludes that life stinks, but it might as well be from the loving bodily emissions of her husband and son.

Marriage and raising children take a pounding in this depressing tongue in cheek tale that literally and figuratively concludes that life stinks. The story line goes for bodily humor and funny asides, but Ebb is no Archie and REMIND ME AGAIN WHY I MARRIED YOU is no wild Animal House. Fans of Rita Cersi will enjoy Lisa's absurd lament, as she satirically dismisses marriage and children as necessary bodily functions to release gas.
