The Sony PCG-K115B is a good, solid laptop. Good value for money and a great first buy. Shame about the lack of DVD-R though.

Just adding that I upgraded from 512MB to 1024MB ram... was easy as slicing pie (never mind eating it). Got two 512MB chips for $20 a piece)

The Sony PCG-K115B is the first laptop but not first computer I've owned so much faster and better than the big desktop. Love it.

I found it slow to start up, crashes quite often, the battery doesn't last more than an hour and the playing of dvd movies is temperamental
