“Simply the worst.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by copleydc on 06/05/2022

Prepare to spend 1.5 hours waiting on the phone when they stop you spending your own money online. Then listen to them claiming to resolve the problem. Then realise they haven't changed a thing and you still can't spend your own money online. Then write yet another terrible review instead of wasting another 1.5 hours waiting on the phone, and open an account elsewhere.

“Halifax Online Banking is a mess”

★☆☆☆☆

written by sooo1 on 23/04/2020

I have been trying to set up online banking for the last 4 weeks. The whole process is so convoluted, it's a mess. Multiple visits to the local branch, at their insistence, and many lengthy phone calls and they still can't seem to sort out the problems at their end. So much contradictory advice and instruction from Halifax Online Banking customer service, they just keep sending me in circles. The customer service agents have in the main been polite but unfortunately ineffectual. One Halifax Online Banking customer service agent at the UK call centre felt the need to be extremely rude and obstructive. Setting up online banking with other banks has been a breeze compared to Halifax Online banking. I have had accounts with Halifax for decades but I'm giving serious consideration to migrating everything over to one of my other banks after this experience. Disappointing.

“It's like banking online in the early 90's”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Winstonl166 on 20/02/2018

Almost feel as if I should be on a Commodore 64 or Spectrum to fully enjoy the wonderful experience of Halifax's internet banking system. The graphics are basic, the functions are rudimentary and nothing is easy to find. Every second click results in an error page. Wow. I can't quite believe that in this day and age some web developer has been paid an absolute packet to produce this sorry excuse for internet banking. Sack them. Now. and get it sorted!

“bank here if you enjoy stress, despair and frustration”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Selenaj91 on 04/01/2018

A summary of my recent experience using online banking at Halifax: I wasn't able to access my online account which I hadn't used in a while. Fair enough. So i followed the instructions to reset my login details. It didn't work but a message told me to call a number if I was still experiencing issues so I did. Technical issues. tried again 6 hours later. Technical issues. Tried again. Technical issues. Finally these issues seem to have been resolved and an automated system answered and gave me the following advice 'to reset your username please follow the instructions on the website', the same website which had advised me to call the number. Then it hung up on me. No option to speak to an advisor, no 'has this solved your problem', just a closed loop of unhelpfulness. I have finally managed to speak to a person and get access to my account but be warned you will be asked questions on your current balance and previous payments before they will speak to you. Questions which are pretty simple if you have access to your account online to view this information but not so much if you don't. Halifax should change it's motto to 'The bank where you can cheque in but you can't cheque out'.

“I've used several banks' online systems over the years...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Kelleryi384 on 09/04/2017

I've used several banks' online systems over the years without any issues. However, Halifax online banking log-in and registration is so convoluted I gave up on Halifax years ago and closed all my accounts. Thinking I could start over I signed up for a credit card only for my old username to be sent to me, which I can't use on the website as their systems have since changed and none of my details are accepted. Completely useless.

“Worst Banking website ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Sinclair321 on 14/09/2016

I don't know where to start. I used to access the Halifax online website regularly to download my credit card statements, then a few years ago, without warning, they pulled the plug on the website and said they were redesigning it completely. So I had to accept paper statements for several months. When the website returned I had lost interest in downloading my statements as my computer records were too far out of date by then. I recently logged in and was more or less forced to switch to online statements before I could proceed. So I am now obliged to log in every month in order to retrieve my statement. Tedious but not the end of the world. However the process of just downloading my last statement in a csv format is cumbersome, irritating and misleading! They appear to fixated on making my statements available in PDF format which is not helpful if you want to search your statements. I can download the statement in csv format but it involves a lot of scrolling up and down and when you find the "Export" link the resulting window always shows the date of the latest statement and not the date of the data you are about to download. Statements available in csv format only go back about 6 months while pdf statement go back years. Why? I'm pleased to see so many others find it as useless as I do but why aren't Halifax listening!?

“Halifax computer geeks stuck in the 1980s.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DarylWilson on 19/02/2016

I have been a customer of the Halifax for over ten years. The online banking has always been easy to use and effective. Now, I'm getting missed payments and late payment fees galore. Why? Because the daft and annoying way they've changed the panels for the accounts - savings, current account credit card etc are a nightmare. Several times I've accidently missed payments because I've misread the payment date. Other times I've over paid - but hey! You don't get a credit for that. Halifax staff at the local bank - well, they just tell you to go online. The only thing I've done to resolve this, is not to use my credit cards and to look for a neater on-line banking format. The dread I have is that Halifax will screw up the transfer of accounts!!!

“Absolutely terrible. The old one was way better.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KonnorCooper on 18/01/2016

The new look is absolutely terrible and not user friendly at all. It's annoyingly slow and looks horrible too. You need more time to perform the same acyion on this nww look. I miss the old look. There's absolutely nothing that I like about the new look. And I use Halifax online very frequently as it saves you trips to your local branch.

“Online layout is appalling!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by whatthefrack on 30/12/2015

New layout has been forced through and is impossible to use with any effectiveness, the actual useful screen window takes up about a quarter of potential screen space, the rest is ads and blank. The fonts are terrible. This makes overview really difficult and the previous transaction overview of 20-30 transactions has reduced to around 10 per page making account monitoring very tricky. In a time when banks are supposed to promote responsible money management this is utterly foolhardy at best and at worst seems designed to encourage bad money management. This site looks amateur and is ugly, nonsensical and time consuming to use, HBOS really need to get their act together. I have written to them with a formal compaint in the hope they will start to respond to feedback. Hopefully they will monitor online reviews and act on the feedback here too so please act if you are also an existing customer who has just lost a useful online banking tool with this idiotic revamp! If you are reading as a prospective customer then avoid avoid avoid!

Stuneville's Response to whatthefrack's Review

Written on: 31/12/2015

I just logged onto the new look site and I agree.

The site has fallen the same way as so many other sites. Aimed at the smartphone user. Real people use proper computers with nice, large screens and we expect a reasonable use of the real estate available.

I now have to stand back from the screen, have to scroll and scroll and scroll, increasing the risk of RSI.....

Even reducing the page size to, say, 75% still yields an horrible, Fisher Price like blobby, huge fonted mess, with spurious line spacing.

I've used the site for as long as it's been available and this change is most unwelcome.

I despair!

“Halifax Online Banking - NEW LOOK?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by senga7878 on 09/10/2015

I like change so I decided to opt in for the new online banking look before the official 'roll-out'. Mistake! Is this really supposed to be the new and improved look? Impossible! Reasons: 1) Confusing layout resulting in difficulty in finding the direct debit/standing order options hence time consuming! 2) Uneasy on the eye with the fonts, sizes...etc 3) Bland, boring design Whoever designed it, it is clear they do not use Halifax for banking. If I don't get used to it, I'll be moving too! TERRIBLE!

“You still need to go the branch!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by bobbyj on 03/12/2014

Absolute farce - because of problems and delays using the branch Halifax recommended using their Internet Banking service where I would get 24/7 365 days service and all from the comfort of my home. Then drawn into their ISA accounts which they dont tell you at the time, but anything regarding closing you need to go into the branch oh and dont expect to be able to read statements all the time, because these invariably disappear behind week long error messages blaming their system. Try to phone and go through a real automated grilling only to be cut off, so need to just find a way to get onto their switchboard and speak to a real person! I feel sorry for their front line staff who must go home with stress levels through the ceiling? At the end of the day it's our money and we should expect to access it according to the customer needs and convenience and not their antiquated policy requirements. Remember jolly Howard the face of Halifax for 8 years who was axed for being too jolly well they now need to employ Jack Dee! As accounts mature will be moving on cos yep Halifax do give you "Xtra" only its poor service, antiquated systems and policies that only serve Halifax. Sermon ends

“Halifax's internet banking and customer service is...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by AminaGriffin-Alt318 on 28/11/2014

Moving money around with internet banking is harder than other banks. Halifax require you to type the recipients phone number in, which they sell to 3rd parties for marketing. When you make a payment it can take days for it to show up on the online account meaning you can never see a up to date statement unless you don't use your card for a few days. They also use Asian call centers (I'll leave that one there). The online banking is at such a low standard it makes me want to close my current account with them (which I only opened because it was the only way I could pay my credit card that I also have with them as Halifax don't allow you to pay off your credit card through a different brand bank account, unless you call and give your details to a Asian call center which can take more than an hour of your time, in which you will have to answer irrelevant questions that have nothing to do with you order of business and more to do with Halifax's information gathering). My advice, find a different bank.

Phone the support line, they direct you to an area then don't allow your problem to be discussed before saying check on line and goodbye. My problem; 9200400 : As you've only recently registered for Online Banking we can't provide you with a user name reminder. Can't get to speak to anyone there.

“New Mobile Banking Crapp!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/08/2014

Hi your new mobile banking thing looks snazzy and all but it does now not let you access the desk top site via mobile. This is no good if you need to cancel or change standing orders or debits quickly and easily... The old one was better you mentally deficient idiots. This has practically ruined my life, seriously. I'm gonna change banks this Friday after being a Halifax customer for 20 years. Fecking idiots.
