Picture the scene. You're mugs are all lined up on the work surface, with the kettle behind them. Isn't the worst place for the power switch to be low down, behind your mugs? Simply putting the switch on top puts this kettle in the top 10%. On this theme, it's jug shaped, taking up less space than a stove top shape. It's top, is wide. You can easily fill it while also looking inside, or get your hand in to access the filter. Though filling is easy enough through the spout, using the large windows that don't start at 4 mugs like some. You can see the water level with just a single mug of water in it. Getting the water out is just as easy. The long spout delivers a smoothed out flow. Pour as fast as you like, it flows cleanly. The element is ceramic coated, and stays clean. Mine is 17 years old now, and must be on it's 15,000th boil. It's still not covered over, in a hard water area. This leaves the base. It has cable storage so you can decide how much trails out along your surface, but more importantly, it works. There is never a moment where it try's to hang on, or where you have to make an effort to locate it. At 17 it's starting to look a little off white, but I just can't find anything that comes close. 3000w, a switch on top and good windows. Why has nobody repeated this recipe?

Any kettle which lasts less than 2 years does not strike me as good value for money, and this includes the Russell Hobbs 10413 Classic Millennium Cordless Jug Kettle!

I have had 2 of these kettles, The first one leaked at the bases, and was replaced under guarantee. The second one now leaks and the "see-through" panel has corroded for the second time.

Mine has lasted nearly ten years but increasingly leaked from the base and started to trip the residual current circuit breaker on the consumer unit yesterday - shame as it has been a good, quick kettle.
