Digitizer was excellent with Tony Mott, but after he and his team left in 2003 Gamecentral was born and with it a certain level of arrogance in my humble opinion. Don't get me wrong, their reviews most of the time are sport on. However their narrow-minded approach to views and mailers who express opposite views is unacceptable. Now they have moved to Metro website, makes a nice couple i.e. two biased news agency's. I'll stick to Edge!

I used to enjoy Digitiser, Gamecentral not so much.
Mainly because the current writers have a major grudge against one of my favourite game developers , and never miss an opportunity to put them down.
Which is pretty frustrating, as I didn't have internet access for many years, this was my only source of videogame news. Any attempt to disagree with their opinion is often met with ridicule, and the few of my letters that have been published are severly edited just so they can dismiss any valid points raised.
AVOID!!!!

For Game Central, following the in the footsteps of the legendary Digitizer was always going to be an unfathomable task. Mr Biffo had such a huge cult following (myself included). His quirky humour, controversy and characters were a breath of fresh air for us gamers and people tuned in for the laughs as well as the daily updates on computer game news. Games Central is an entirely different beast.
Where Digitizer was the genius of one man and a huge cult following, Game Central should be lauded for its different approach to its community and viewer interactivity. Where Digitizer has a fantastic sense of humour and belly laughs every day, GC should be commended for its great reviews, unbiased opinion and twice daily updates. It feels up to the minute. It feels like a community that you are part of. I highly recommend it to anyone who has an interest in gaming.

It's a nice way to get all the information you need if you don't have an internet connection. There's nothing particularly wrong with it, but when compared to magazines and gaming websites, it DOES come short. Free and easy to access, though.

Game Central isn't a magazine as such, it's more a daily dosage of quality gaming journalism delivered in bite size chunks via Channel 4 Teletext.
The 4 pages (376,377,378 and 379) are updated daily throughout the week and offer the latest news and also some surprisingly unbiased reviews. Game Central has its own brand of humour and in-jokes that only regular readers will get, but if you need a quick fix of gaming news, it's only a remote control button press away - and it's free. The major draw for many readers (including myself) is the 'Inbox' section where gamers write in with their views on the industry and other news items. During the week, readers can comment on any subject regarding games, but at the weekend the inbox section focuses on a certain 'hot topic'.
Also over the weekend, there is a round up of the week's reviews and normally a feature or two - sometimes written by an important industry figure. Gamecentral is the natural successor to the infamous Digitiser, and stands up well in the shadow of its illustrious forefather.

Then again, most of us 'casual gamers' - which is what I am, really, an RPG freak with access only to those games published in the UK, have to rely on something fairly unbiased to give us an idea of what's available. I just hate the fact that Gamecentral, while beginning to review my genre of choice when it's available, still keeps on pushing their genre of choice - retro gaming and obscure games. I'm not that interested in games from back when Pong was state-of-the-art graphics.

it is true that gamecentral lacks the inspired zaniness of digitiser, but i don't feel this is really the fault of the writers, rather that it reflects the constraints that have come administratively with the new title.
just wish they'd stop flogging the donkey of the uninspired western corporate games industry.

True, there are hardly any RPG reviews but you must admit it is a niche market, especially in the UK. Thats not a derogatory comment, but most people seem content to buy driving games and shoot em ups, so that's what they review. Makes sense really. And what abour Gamestation on BBC, does anyone actually read that?!

I agree - Digitiser used to make me smile. Now, the only strange comments are those of the people who have lost differing types of sweets. I'm an RPG fan myself, but they're rarely reviewed, or BARELY reviewed. I never import, and I'm not a 'fan-girl', so I'm starting to be turned off by all the 'this next-gen console is better than that one' comments that the Inbox feature has been lately. The GAMES are important, and they don't review that many, over the course of a week. Okay, the price is right - free, but the quality's decreased.

I'm merely stating my opinion. Anyone who was long term a fan of the original Digitiser will know that now, with the suits running Gamecentral. All the fun has been bled dry of the once great Teletext based games magazine.

<br>Digitiser wasn't afraid to be different, go it's own way. All Gamecentral wants to do is 'keep up with the pack'. Content to be just another games publication with no soul. Compare the way Digitiser used to be with it's CrAzY cartoon strips:

<br>Who among us will ever forget Mr.T "get away from my bins",The Digitiser Donkey, The Snakes, Zombie Dave, The Man, Socky The Sock Puppet, Darth Ronson, Mr Biffo, Krazy Snake, Insulin Guy, Spock, Gossi The Dog, The Man's Daddy, Duck, Dead Mario, S Arcasm, Daddy Cool... The list goes on.

<br>It's reviews while 'arguably' unbiased, are certainly elitist. With a distinct leaning towards favouritism of Eastern developed games and an increasing obsession with the Japanese import market. Which only the very hardest of the hardcore of gamers would be interested in.

<br>I won't even get into my opinion of their 'interesting features'. Let me just say Digitiser always sparked the imagination and came up with a fresh view of games. Gamecentral seems content to chew over the same old point. Usually something which has been brought up by a more insightful viewer long before.

<br>I'm sorry but Digitiser is not 'easily as good'. It's merely competent. With nothing to distinguish itself from the "me-too" games press, except it's daily and it's free.

So you are slagging off a free, daily games news service for not being 'as funny' as Digitiser? - what more you you want? Yes, Digitiser was simply fantastic, but GC is easily as good, and features the same unbiased reviews and interesting features as the aforementioned.

Game Central is the poor cousin of the Dearly departed Digitiser. It's far more commercial, alot more biased and far less funny than it used to be.

<br>Any long term reader of channel 4's Teletext based Games column will lament the loss of Digitisers quirky brand of humour and far more interesting commentators.
<br>
<br>Game Central I salute you(if only for your valiant attempt), but you will forever be in the shadow of Biffo's giant, Digitiser.
