Came here for a short break. In my own tourer. Site OK. In the mash and barrel for a meal which took over a hour and a half to arrive and when my meal came the chips were over cooked, steak on mixed grill was burnt, rump steak tough and cremated.

“ok holiday this time”

just back from a weekend at haggerston, after previously complaining we got a lovely caravan in a lovely site, it was clean although daughter did find a small deposit of dog poo under cushion in sitting room, the staff are mainly lovely and any complaints i had were handled staightaway. i love this site has a lovely country feel and have been coming here for 10 years now, obviously with being a dog owner we have had some horrible caravans, and i mean horrible but have now found the best thing to do is complain.overall site is lovely and food ok.

“Touring Caravan Site”

★★★☆☆

written by llrides on 13/07/2012

We where wanting somewhere to take our grandchildren ages 5 and 7 for a few days and decided to try a Haven site, Haggeston was available for a 3 night break so we book it, on arrival we thought what have we done people in front of us at reception where asking for wooden pallets as their awnings and pitches where totally flooded, we had booked a super pitch which on inspection did have some water but as we did not intend to put up an awning we decided to stay, the weather has been atrocious and the park could not be blamed for the muddy conditions although the pitches are dated and in need of attention, as for the toilet blocks they where usable but poorly cleaned, cleaners need a supervisor as they are not doing the job thoroughly, we have our own on board facilities so we have a choice, Haven do provide entertainment for children but to get to it you must go through a large money hungry amusement arcade, no mater what entertainment is on there are always items being forced on parents and kids at expensive prices, as for food we had our own and did not use the over priced food outlets available, Haggeston is not a bad location we had a trip to Alnwick and another to the shops and supermarkets in Berwick upon tweed, would I recommend this park? we will not be returning but as the site in its poor ground conditions was 95% full clearly people do like it.

“Not Happy”

★★★☆☆

written by on 04/09/2011

Having a dog means we can only ever have standard or standard plus caravan which has resulted in us getting very poor, dirty, scruffy caravans therefore we decided to book privately without going through Haven. Our Caravan last year was lovely & had all the gadgets,m dvd, iron etc however the caravan we booked this year was dirty, no iron or ironing board, the oven went off on the second night there & the gas had to be turned off to the oven & grill so we had only a hob for the rest of a weeks stay! The outside light didn't work, the decking & veranda were unsafe & the caravan had a foisty, nasty smell....there were several more problems which have all gone in an email to the owner. Although this is actually not Haven renting it I still think they should have been more helpful considering they charge the owners for keeping the caravan on the site...they told us they only hold the keys & could do nothing to assist us without speaking to the owners. This ment several phone calls by us to the owner to complain about the various problems. I would say though that the Funpasses are very over priced & unfairly priced.....£39.50 Adult £22.25 Child (under 13 being a child) therefore it cost £140.75 for my family of 2 Adults a 15 yr old & an 11 yr old !!! As we have a dog we do not like to leave him too often so in a 7 night stay we may go out 2 nights in total, we don't use the swimming pool & because we trake the dog most places we do not go into the complex for the children to do the activities...so basically for 2 nights out (spending money on overpriced drinks)& to be allowed in to spend money in the arcade it cost us over £140 !!!!! Not good value at all & I think they should do a daily pass or something to accomadated people who may not want to be in the complex all day every day!!! This is a Haven thing & I think it should be adressed. I would not recommend any Haven park as value for money, it can be as or more expensive than a sunshine holiday abroad...

Okay have read loads of reviews before we went & to be honest we would have canceled only they wouldnt give us our money back. However having went for 4 days I would say that you get what you pay for, our caravan was spotless (we upgraded to prestige & glad we did as was freezing at night & we had heating in all rooms which was great). All staff were friendly & helpful. Childrens entertainment(for the 3-10) was really good, my daughter had a ball. We staying in Carnabys as to be honest the main entertainment room was really smaelly & we struggled to walk by it never mind sit in it! Swimming pool great, food places to eat were okay but all unhealthy options, we cooked in caravan a few nights. All in all I thought it was fine for me, my hubby & 3 year old.

Just returned from a 3 night break. Had a delux caravan which had everything that you could need we even had an ensuite which was nice. First time staying in a carvan so was a bit worried but it was spotless and the kids loved it. We were right beside the complex which was very handy and right beside the lake. Only downside was the onsite restuarant as paid 38 for her first night mean and very disappointed with quality of food so it was burger king for the next 2 nights. Would go back again

“ Visited Haggerston Castle on 31 june 2010.I would say...”

Visited Haggerston Castle on 31 june 2010.I would say this park is somewhere in between the two extremes of reviews on this website. If you're expecting something similar to centre parcs for the average price you pay then you're bound to be disapointed. Having said that I would only recommend this park as a base for exploring the surrounding area. The park itself is set amongst woodland with many off road tracks which were great for cycling and the lakes were lovely with swans and ducks roaming everywhere. The new extended swimming pool and small play park were clean and adequate but the play park was too small and the pool lacked the fun factor with only one slide. I can imagine before the pool and park were revamped it probably did look a bit run down. Most of the children`s activities on the park are limited to certain dates or certain ages (check the back of the haven brochure)the rest are overpriced for example £10.00 for a pedal boat on the lake. We didn't try the kid's clubs or pubs so can't comment apart from saying the venues are a bit grubby looking inside there probably next for a revamp. The beach'one mile away'' is over a live train track! we were advised at reception not to try it but later found out the stables take people and horses over it so not sure if it can be reached or not also the Italianate gardens have opening times and were shut on Thursdays and Fridays when we tried to visit so check opening times .Best money saving tip- if you're heading down to Alnwick Castle visit Amble for Dave Greys puffin trip to Coquet Island see birds and seals for less than half the price of the boat trips at Seahouses also didn't have time to try this and not cheap but the glass bottom boat trip at St Abbs head sounds good

“We have just come back from Haggerston Castle we paid ...”

★★★★☆

written by on 21/09/2008

We have just come back from Haggerston Castle we paid £9.50 each and collected the tokens from the sun newspaper. We expected the worst we booked a standard caravan for 4 adults no passes and no linen. To our amazement we got a 3 bed superior caravan complete with linen microwave fridge freezer. Yes we washed all the pots and pans etc but i do that anyway the caravan and the beds where clean. i would not like to have taken children to this site as pool area family showroom bar where not very clean and the show bar did have a very stale smell there was lots of machines taking lots of money from children the laundrette was dirty. The super market on site was not bad priced for food the gifts were expensive rubbish. We did only use this site as a base for exploring northumberland and we were more than happy with our stay will be watching out for this offer again.

If you are looking for a cheap quiet holiday then Haggersten castle is not the place, if you have kids then fantastic.
My family enjoy this park and it was a holiday for myself when I was little. As for food well it is self catering so its what you make it didn't eat out very much had BBQ'S out side my caravan by the lake fantastic. House keeping leaves a lot to be desired and not very good at cleaning so its worth brining lots of bleach. I still love it. Got lots of history in that area so you can go out for day trips or horse riding across the beach. The holiday is for the kids, so its what you make it.

Just been at Haggerston for a week. Had read reviews and panicked but our caravan was lovely and we couldn't fault it. It was one of the more expensive ones but it was worth paying more for. Pool staff were fantastic and if you do certain activities like aqua gliders or water tots there are only a few users in the pool. Pool staff worked hard keeping the poolside clean. Funstars were excellant with the kids and the kids clubs were good fun too. Plenty for the kids to do on the site.

written by megslegs on 11/07/2007

I book either through the site or privately and have never had a complaint. Would definitely recommend. Upon reading the reviews, I thought I would write one. We have been going to Haggerston Castle for the past 6 years, and we have never had any problems, I have two children now aged 13 and 10 and they love it, we go for easter time and in the 6 week holidays and never miss the close down in Novemeber with the fantastic fire woks.
