Visit www.motoringassist.comThe call out mechanic found no fault codes, he had no real suggestions what the issue was but told me I was k to drive the vehicle. 2wks have passed since his attention and I have only just been able to get it in to find out what the problem is. I found a way around the problem, which apparently revolves around the DPF and have been driving it in low gears to attempt a regen and this prevents it going in to limp mode. But as soon as I put in a higher gear with rpm low, it goes straight in to limp mode. I have never owned a diesel vehicle before and only purchased because I have gone self employed and only found a suitable van using diesel. Diesels are too temperamental to use to prevent too much effect on the environment.

Visit www.motoringassist.comI do not remember names of who I spoke to, but was generally happy with Gem, the only instance I wasn't happy with was the fact that the driver told me He wasn't having the Covid vaccination, but was tested Negative at that time. With all the problems about taking care with the pandemic I find that a driver with a rescue company saying "he didn't want that rubbish in his body" I find that uncalled for. Luckily, I had the vaccination and had a mask on.

Visit www.motoringassist.comHave used Gem for just over a year, have been very impressed with the professional service they have given. My last breakdown my car got stuck in a field and needed to be pulled out using a hoist, It was classified as specialist equipment so I needed to pay an additional fee to be rescued. I feel that was not justified as if it was a different kind of breakdown and my car could not be fixed my car would have been hoisted onto the recovery truck using the same equipment but there would not have been a charge for specialist equipment. Kind regards Walter Surgeon

Visit www.motoringassist.comafter initial call we were quickly called back with estimated time of arrival. The recovery truck was quick in response, we needed a new battery witch he had and fitted. Would have given 5 star but in my opinion the battery was on the expensive side. £100.00, Peugot 3008d 2012 ( I spent many years in the tyre and battery and industry) but my disabilities restrict me.

Visit www.motoringassist.comMotorcycle breakdown. Rescue vehicle late as it had broken down, ironically. Friendly helpful service when it did arrive. Just one of those things.

Visit www.motoringassist.comI appreciated the safe approach to this recovery, it was dark and on a fast single carriageway. The very nice break down man was dealing with two vehicle recoveries concurrently, I thought I was going to have to wait longer but the controller lady worked out a solution that suited both customers. Great! So all's well that ends well.

Visit www.motoringassist.comI like everything about Gem so far, but together we collected a higher bill than necessary. The list of local service providers on the web site included one attributed to my nearby (2 miles) town, who was in fact based in a town 21 miles away. I therefore chose one who was much further away, and who also sent an embarrassing large breakdown vehicle for a jump start. There were other options much closer to my home, which would have lowered the mileage and shortened the response time.

Dear GEM Member,
Thank you for your comment, we are pleased to hear that you are happy with the service provided. GEM does not provide a list of local recovery operators on our website, due to data protection.
In the event of a breakdown we advise all our members to call our Control Centre, as the operators are able to source the most appropriate assistance to get you back on the road as quickly and efficiently as possible.
Kind regards,
The GEM Team

Wherever I got my advise, the operator listed from Morpeth was in fact from Alnwick, which in terms of time and distance discourages contacting from the choice from other operators. Just thought you might like to know that. Just trying to be helpful.

Visit www.motoringassist.comMy car developed an intermittent electrical problem resulting in a flat battery. The breakdown vehicle arrived within the hour and the car was running within minutes. The problem is likely to be within the electronics of the vehicle and could not be fixed at the roadside, particularly as it is intermittent problem. The next stop will be to a recognised agency of the vehicle. I have been a member of GEM for many years and cannot fault the service.

Visit www.motoringassist.comI was very happy with the recovery by GEM on 17.8.2020. I had broken down on a fast but narrow stretch of an A road and they got to me in just over an hour.

Visit www.motoringassist.comI've been with GEM for some years on a reclaim policy and I've had no major issues. Like most recovery firms they are dependent on the local recovery agents, so service levels vary. The advantage of the reclaim service is that when I can choose who I call, particularly when close to home, where I can call my trusted local garage and reclaim the callout from GEM. What I would like to see is the ability to offer a more specialised response, particularly for tyres. When I had a badly damaged tyre they were happy to send me a recovery truck, but couldn't organise a tyre fitter. I was in a situation where I could phone around and find what I needed and they paid for the callout, but it would have been better if the call centre were able to arrange it.

Visit www.motoringassist.comMy hybrid became a victim of lockdown and sheltering and resulted in loss of 12 volt battery charge. Response from GEM was immediate and courteous with appropriate follow up information. However the breakdown contractor seemed to be poorly briefed as to remote location and nature of problem. No contact was made by phone until the attending driver was lost, and a full size recovery vehicle was used which had difficulty accessing my property. The jump-start rig was in a poor state of repair and charge was achieved by trailing bare frayed ends to live terminal. Although start was achieved in this way I was a bit concerned at this given the warnings and high voltages present under the bonnet (self-charging hybrid). Overall a good result but I think there could be better focus on needs and communication in delivery.

Visit www.motoringassist.comHadn't used my RAC membership in years but my personal premium kept increasing, by stealth, I felt. Decided to switch to GEM, I thin after MSE or other reviews - hence taking the time to write this one. Ducati Monster broke down - called once, got through quickly, useful menu options regarding being alone, safety etc. Told help was on way, received a text giving a deadline and to call again if no contact. I did need to call, was told why there was a delay, help arrived before the revised deadline. Home recovery, good follow up to check what was happening with my situation, whether resolved or not. Specific bike transport with knowledgeable mechanic All in all quite happy apart from knackered bike

Visit www.motoringassist.comThe breakdown truck took four hours to arrive but to be fair the breakdown was at home so relatively low priority. Problem quickly solved on arrival so quite happy about the response

Visit www.motoringassist.comA prompt & efficient response to a battery fail at my home address. A replacement battery was supplied & fitted by a competent, courteous & considerate contractor from Red House Garage within 2hrs of my initial call to GEM. Text tracking was useful & prevented wasted time whilst waiting. A satisfactory experience, given that this was my first call in 6yrs & you only know how good a service is when you need it.

Visit www.motoringassist.comThe service from Gem when I called was fine and the recovery van turned up within about 45 minutes and we were able to identify the fault - a dud battery, which I suspected was the problem. The driver got the car running via a battery booster but I don't think the van he arrived in would be able to tow the car to a garage if repairs were required. In conversation, the driver told me that his company was contracted to the emergency services and that their demands had priority over Gem members and he cited a recent situation where a lady with young children, broken down on a motorway, waited several hours for help as the company were recovering a vehicle on behalf of the emergency services. This is not acceptable. This prioritising does not, I believe, apply to the likes of the AA, RAC who, he told me, attend to their members promptly and this situation bears examination as Gems' subscription is not a million miles away from what these 'majors' are charging and for this price we expect a priority service. My own experience was ok and maybe this recovery company, Weston, is unique in its prioritising of the emergency services, but I feel it needs to be investigated.

Visit www.motoringassist.comEngine cut out on M6 so was classified as urgent response. The phone operator was very efficient and explained the recovery procedure to good effect. Recovery vehicle took an hour to arrive, but mechanic was efficient enough. No need for towing as my car started again without any work required but after a full computer check found no faults!
