Apart from the people complaining about our 'noise', we had a fantastic holiday and would go back any time. I would highly recommend the Hyde Park Apartments apartments. The apartments were very clean and well sized. Staff were friendly, especially the pool bar staff who were lovely. Walk to the start of the strip was about 10 minutes, which was good although most clubs and bars were further along the strip (approx. 25-30 min walk).

We had the best holiday in years in the Hyde Park Apartments in Puerto Del Carmen, Lanzarote. The apartments are very clean and really nice. The location is perfect, and it is just ten minutes walk to the strip. We had the best nights in the restaurant/bar area with the people who run the bar. They could not have been nicer people.

I would have no hesitation in returning to Hyde Park in the near future.

We picked Hyde Park Apartments as we thought it would be good for our two year old daughter. There is easy access for the pushchair and she was welcomed in the restaurant. There were trips which were suitable for her age range and the apartment and grounds were kept clean and tidy. We also had a dip in the pool - but it was a bit chilly!

Apartments are far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the busy town but close enough to walk to the beach.
Apartment staff (especially Rosa one of the receptionists)were very very helpful and always accommodating.
With regards to meals we found Lani's. What a chain of restuarants anything from pizza to steak to canarian potatoes and mojo sauce. Another haunt was the pizzeria restuarant(Pizzeria Napoletana) which served soft drinks and beer in a boot shaped glass. The kids loved them as did the adults - what a novelty.
If you are looking for an excursion try visiting the bottom of the ocean in the yellow submarine - it may seem a bit expensive but well worth it just to see the barracuda and the parrot fish.
Would we recommend it - we most certainly would. We came back the end of August and by the first week of September we were booked up again.

All in all a very nice holiday. Would highly recommend Casa Callega Restaurant O'Orreo in the Jameos playa area. Superb food. Also Bar Katherina right on the sea front (Puerto del Carmen). Excellent value.

“November 2003 visit. Very pleased on arrival to find...”

November 2003 visit. Very pleased on arrival to find such a clean (if somewhat basic)Hyde Park apartment. Extremely nice reception, bar and catering, and maintenance staff. Personally prefer upstairs apartments as balconies can be very secluded. About a 10/15 walk to the Promenade. PDC has some lovely shops, i.e. Spanish leather goods, clothes (ladies especially), curtains, tablecloths etc., and also some quite vulgar and grotesque shops. Restaurants and bars everywhere! Lots of internet access points, usually in arcades - loads of time on-line for a Euro! Electrical goods and camera traders (usually Asian) are annoyingly pushy! Do not accept 'scratch cards' from anyone, as this is the latest scam, - not timeshare, but trying to get you to sign up to a holiday club! Loads of car hire companies quoting very low prices - but beware! you'll need comprehensive insurance and Bail Bond cover, travel at your peril without! Hire anything from 3 door Corsas/Micras to Jeep Wranglers etc. All small hatches are aircon by the way. Beware of vastly differing road surfaces, odd cambers, no road sign lighting at night etc. Let the Lanzarote residents overtake you and break the speed limits if they want to! Don't do it yourself though! The only traffic lighting appeared to us to be in Arrecife. Take your hire car to the National Park for a wonderful day out (inclusive of on-site coach trip around the lava beds). Don't be frightened of using tiny village stores and bars - the Lanzarote people are lovely and highly adapted to foreign travellers. Beware of mosquitos, but the only other visitors we had were the pet cats at Hyde Park and the occasional lizard (not a cockroach in sight!). Lanzarote is a totally unique environment and you may find the vast areas of volcanic ash as striking to you as the Peak District would be to a visitor from Lanzarote! Final note: goods at Arrecife Airport are ridiculously expensive! Will we go back to the Island? Not half! - like it very much. Also tune in to Power FM (the English speaking Canaries radio station - good!)

Awg's Response to AWG's Review

Hyde Park Apartments, (near Belgica/Hollanda Avenues etc.) November 2004 review. One year on and Hyde Park is still enthusiastically run by the same staff. However, no microwaves yet (contrary to what is stated on another review site), and some of the fittings and fixtures, although kept spotlessly clean, are getting a little 'tired'; i.e. loose taps, suspect earths on reading lamp, live/neutral cables showing on toaster, wobbly frying pan handle etc. We did however notice that full regeneration work has already started on some apartments with new tiling, bathroom fittings, windows, doors etc. This does not help the fact however that downstairs apartments have a patio next to other people's bathroom/bedroom, and privacy of conversation etc. is none too good. The all important swimming pool still kept very clean, and the bar/restaurant the same. But why on earth do they have those awful fluorescent tubes on the restaurant patio? Entertainment? We just watched the guitar/vocal duo this year. Slightly musically limited and not exactly an 'all ages' repertoire, but above all the electrical auto accompaniment made with floppy discs, drum machine etc. still quite reasonable players and vocalists. The parrot man still visits the site also. Now to go off topic, an important point. The SPAR shop on the corner of Italia Avenue/facing the sea (nearest store out of Hyde Park), are NOT giving change to customers as they should do. Apart from the quite abrupt rudeness of the staff, and the unwillingness to accept large denomination notes, they are 'rounding off' small change (copper) in their favour. If they left out a tray for staff tips I'm sure people would give them loose change (if they tried smiling a bit more!), however theft is totally unacceptable. This store is NOT, please, to be confused with the quite nice SPAR just down the road on Moonlight Bay, where we found the staff most pleasant. We had a look around the Hyde Park Lane complex (same owners), which is just 15 minutes away. A much larger complex, and all the apartments appear to be single storey. We noticed the steps down to their own Supermarket, and the sign in the Supermarket door that "all customers own bags must be left with the cashier"! (so, heaven only knows what type of clientele they must get at certain times of the year!). We will consider using Hyde Park a third time, but strictly out of season.
