“hikes price up on renewals”

been with saga home insurance for years never made a claim each year price goes up this year they wanted another £130 extra phoned to complain told that was the price i be better off to go elsewhere madness needless to say i went somewhere else and got same cover for just the £130 extra they wanted

“Home Insurance for renewal”

Have had House/Building contents for 1 year with Saga, received renewal seemed a bit excessive, 683.96 went on gocompare got the same quote for under half 271.76 with Tesco rang SAGA Lady was very helpful said she would match but why should I, they should of offered lower price is the first place, what i am trying to say is PLEASE check before you sign up for another year, from start to finish it took me half hour

I paid for home insuranc with Saga in one up front payment, the cover ran it's full course but I chose not to renew due to the horrific reviews. since then I have received a bill for £50.12 for cancellation fees.
I cannot get a reason from Saga so have not paid.
I thought that this company catered for older people,
I wonder how many pay up without understanding .
if I had cancelled mid term I would expect a charge, but not after the insurance had finished. I suppose the next lenter that I receive will be another demand for payment again without any explanation. Saga, not with a barge pole.

“They don't look after 50+ at all”

My recent Saga renewal premium for buildings and contents insurance showed an increase of 29% on the previous year. I have never claimed off the company. Disgraceful. When I called to cancel the direct debit I said they would not be able to match the John Lewis quote but he fiddled about on his keyboard and was able to reduce the price to £1 below JL. I had used Confused.com to get quotes and even on there Saga gave a much better quote. I know they are all at it, increasing the next year quotes to existing customers. It is completely wrong and the Insurance Industry should be regulated so that people do not get ripped-off like this. Always change your Insurer, never, never accept their renewal.

“Renewal cost extortionate”

Similar problem as the previous writer Renewal came through £140 higher than previous year with supposed 5% discount and no claims made.

“Falling insurance premiums? Definitey not at Saga!”

This time last year, my first year as a Saga customer, I took out buildings and contents insurance cover. Their quote was just about in line with others in the general market - possibly a bit higher, but I was happy to be dealing with an organisation whom I thought I could trust to provide good value. Last week I've received my renewal notice to find the premium has increased by 40% with no claims made and no change in my circumstances. I called Saga's customer services department to be told that the average rise in insurance premiums this year was 30% and there was no explanation as to why mine was 40%, other than I was not now getting the benefit of the first year introductory discount (which they omitted to tell me about last year!). So, not believing any of this, I called the local insurance broker who insures my cars - 15 minutes later I had three quotes from leading UK insurance companies, all of whom were between 40% and 45% less than the Saga renewal quote! It didn't take much persuading to immediately cease my custom with Saga! And now, prompting me to write this review, I hear on the radio this morning that house insurance premiums have actually fallen by around 3% to 4% this year on average! This doesn't really ring true with what I was told by Saga - in fact, worryingly, it may suggest that they are misleading their customers and charging rates significantly above market value, in the hope that a large proportion of their elderly customer base don't know better or won't do anything about it. I think they are the naïve party in this belief!

“Having recently claimed following a theft from a...”

Having recently claimed following a theft from a utility area of two electric bikes Saga passed on the claim to Halfords for resolution, who then returned this to Saga as they do not sell such bikes for cash resolution, Saga now state this theft is not covered by the policy. This is despite this question specifically being asked when taking out the policy and being told everything in the utility and shed were covered. I am very aggrieved and will be looking elsewhere for cover. Be very careful.

Saga seem to specialise in renewal quotes averaging a 50% increase, be it for home or motor insurance.
My renewal quote was for 413. I phoned, asked for same cover at same address and it went down to 310 just lie that as Tommy Cooper used to say. Two year earlier I had same experience with motor insurance.

Yesterday I renewed my Saga home insurance, with some changes, by phone . I elected to receive my new documents by email. I received an email with premium amount. But I cannot download or view documents. I spent an hour trying to. Please acknowledge this request and send me my documents by post now. Thank you.

I'm very annoyed, I had accident with a tin of paint on the 20/1/2014. Phoned up saga asking for help. I wasn't asking for a new suite only if they could get someone professional in to clean it because I couldn't do this alone. To my surprise my claim was sent to the forensic, their report came back saying the paint was going in different directions and won't pay out. After 10 weeks now it's getting very embarrassing when we have visitors still having to cover the sofas up. We do really feel that are being unfairly treated when this had been accidentally damage. Is there anything I can do?

Hi, I managed to partly resolve my problem with Saga home insurance which I posted on this site in February. I telephoned and made a formal complaint to Saga themselves (not Acromas the underwriters)and threatened that I would go to (Watchdog the BBC TV program). At first they offered me £25 for my trouble and the cost of telephone calls to them and the string of contractors they use. I refused that and after a week or so got a call from the complaints dept offering to pay half the cost of my roof repair which as explained in my original post I paid for and got done myself. They also agreed to pay for the repair of my bathroom ceiling and work will begin on this on 14th April. I say partly resolved because they only paid half the cost (£550). It was a long battle but worth it in the end. I think Saga's and many insurance companies default response to claims is to try their best to avoid paying out and so you need to push quite hard to get them to pay out.
