“Poor Experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JocelynnMcGraw457 on 20/09/2017

We went in the 6 weeks holidays on a Saturday and half the riders were shut, others opened half way through the day, complained to a member of staff who after speaking to my partner, continued the conversation with another customer who was stood in front of and they did not know it was my partner they had been speaking to and basically had a go about him and was rude about him this all in front of my daughter. I have complained to Oakwood and they responded quoting terms and conditions for off peak season, i do believe the 6 weeks holidays on a Saturday would be classed as peak season, so why quote me incorrect T+C's, since i queried this in an email back no response so now i will post reviews until i get a full explanation and a refund for the poor service, experience and food we endured.

“Have a nice day”

★★★☆☆

written by Ronany1959 on 04/09/2016

Your staff are the face of Oakwood whilst I would not expect the enthusiasm of the USA the miserable inefficient off handedness of your staff was so bad it became a point of exasperated laughter amongst visitors. I am Welsh and have always thought we were a chatty friendly nation but this gene has passed your staff by. More training required on how to deal with the public please would make the day more pleasurable. Also a little more attention to cleanliness of the overall site needed whoever thought to give balls of fish food to people on the boating lake did not take into account that there would then be lots of said balls floating in the water. Clean them up for pity sake. We payed over£70 to come in make us feel it was with it.

I concur. Unfortunately customer service is pretty abysmal in most places in the UK and Oakwood Park is no different.

People at most places in the UK can't be bothered to help customers and just want to go home to fiddle with their mobiles on their sofa and watch Britain's Got Talent :-( It's why productivity in the UK is far, FAR behind other nations.

Visited oakwood park. Can't believe it. Turned up and it was raining. Most of the rides were closed. We complained to oakwood following the useless trip and it took them two weeks to respond after complaining 3 times. Their attitude was disgusting. They are rude. I would not recommend any body go there. Save your money and go to Alton towers. At least they know how to look after their guests.

“Awful staff, food and no rides in operation. I wont return”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ClaireAmanda on 12/09/2014

The main rides were closed due to 'technical difficulties' but invited customers to use other rides which were also closed. This was bizarre. I was not made aware of this before entering into the park. At the Oak Tree Restaurant, the staff were not friendly and unhelpful throughout the park. The majority of attractions were closed. Very out dated park. I made a formal complaint to the manager, but this was not taken seriously. I intend on taking it further.

“Oakwood - What a Disappointment”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 16/09/2013

On 16 August 2013 my daughter and I travelled from Cardiff to Oakwood for a day out as a treat with my 3 grandchildren - one of whom was celebrating a birthday. When we arrived only 4 of the 6 ticket booths were open (this being the height of the school holidays) and instead of easy access as we had booked on line, we had to queue for 40 mins before we got into the park. The Speed ride was not available, which was rather disappointing. The first ride we made for was Megafobia - this had only one carriage running with seating for approx 20 people. It meant a 1 hr wait before the children had their first ride. Again, to only have 1 carriage on at the height of the childrens holiday was ridiculous. Eventually another carriage was added - but within a short time most of the rides were not working, Megafobia and Bobsleigh included - in fact my grandchildren went on 3 rides all day. We could not buy cold drinks / slush or hot food as apparently there had been a power cut. Before leaving (much earlier than intended) the children went on Drench. I wanted to buy a photo of them on the ride - but the camera wasn't working! We did not enjoy our visit to Oakwood at all. We had driven for 2 hrs to get there and another 2 hrs drive home at a cost of £40 in petrol. We had paid £72 for entry to the park. As we left the park people were queueing up to collect forms to enable them to put in a complaint. I did the same. Despite e-mailing my complaint at least 3 times, faxing twice, leaving telephone messages, I have not had the courtesy of a response. I could not recommend Oakwood to anyone.

“:(”

I went to Oakwood a few years ago which happened to be a day before a girl died on a ride there. I went again last week and I was appauled to see the toilets were blocked. When I went on the Pirate ship it went too high and I was 1/4 people on it and we were all shouting stop and he just made it go higher. I went on Megafobia which was fun but was very creaky and a quite alot of the wood was rotten. The golf was meant to be free but actually cost a pound each! About 4 of the rides were closed! Don't go!

Whilst a few things there are problems at the park, the wood would certainly not be rotten on Megafobia!

“Great fun if everything is working”

★★★★☆

written by coasterjamie on 29/12/2011

Oakwood is a great theme park! It has a lot of big rides and then some more hidden away (well they are easy to find, but come as a good surprise) like spooky 3D. The only problems I have with this park is that not all the rides were open, and they only run one train on each ride which leads to HUGE queueing times. For example on speed, their biggest ride they only had one train on, and it only takes eight people around it on one ride when full. I think that their four must-do big rides are Drenched (used to be called Hydro which was a much better name), Megafobia, Speed and Bounce (although bounce is rarley ever open.) Overall you will enjoy Oakwood no matter what age you are as they have fantastic rides, but try to contact them before going to make sure that all the rides are open.

I LOVE IT! The only let down was all the birds trying to get all your food but i didn't really like the food so it didn't really matter other than that oakwoods is AMAZING!!!

“Shocking ...”

★★☆☆☆

written by LindaElizabeth on 24/07/2011

I have visited Oakwood quite a few times, and has been able to enjoy it with out any inconvinience. However, this time I visted Oakwood has been a mayjour let down, the toilets were a discrace, they were very dirty, and smelt of uirin. 4 rides were only manned by 2 people, this caused many problems, We couldn't get on the rides we wanted to, however, aswell as having a little child, this is not the standard i would expect to have for the money i paied. It certainly isn't worth it anymore. This place really looks scruffy, they need to atleast give it a lick of paint, and keep the toliets clean!! Also, the prices were terrible, I advise anyone which oes decide to go to Oakwood theame park to take their own pack lunches. I will not be visiting this place again, unless it became up to the standards it should be.

“Very disappointed with the park in 2011”

★★☆☆☆

written by markplews on 18/07/2011

Just returned from a day out at oakwood and have to say i was rather disappointed, I have lived in the county for over 17 years and have been going every year but this year has been a major let down, the park is in a dreadful state with most of the woodwork needing sanding and painting, the rides needing a good clean as they are covered in algae . The toilets next to speed stinks inside of sewerage that you don't want to use them and the smell walking past the toilet is just horrendous and was making my wife heave whilst trying to eat our burgers from the take away situated no more than 200 yards from these toilets. Also a lot of the smaller rides and sweet stalls wasn't open and some rides only operating on the hour. Having paid over £70 to enter the park I expected everything to be available, If you only offer three quarters of the features you advertise then you should offer people a reduced entrance fee or at least let them know in advance that some features are not available. I know the park is under new ownership and you are probably still finding your feet but you need to bring the park back to the standard it was before, i can see you getting a lot more complaints if you don't get the park back to the standard it has been, sorry oakwood but I don't know if I will be returning to the park this year...... This review was posted on their facebook site but they decided to delete it along with the following replies which i have the original email updates if anyone wishes to clarify these. Oakwood Theme Park commented on your photo. Oakwood Theme Park wrote "Hi Mark, thanks for your comments - we like to see both positive and negative comments as it helps us make changes for the future. It's also worth saying that with over 400,000 visitors each year, it's impossible for us to please everyone. Your complaints come as a bit of a surprise to us as it's the first we've heard of the issues - naturally we'll look into it and I'll pass the comments you make onto the relevant people. It's worth noting that we advertise quite clearly on several pages on our website that 'On quieter days, some rides may operate in rotation and in some circumstances closed - however we will make this clear at the entrance tills on the date of your visit. If you have any queries or would like to check availability for a certain date, please call 01834 891373 and we will do our best to assist you.'. I have checked with the staff that were on duty today and all the above forms of notifying our guests of any closures or rotations were followed. We're sorry to see you didn't enjoy your day but we hope you come back soon." Jacqueline Adams commented on your photo. Jacqueline wrote "Thought the same here..... dirty and old looking .... needs some serious money spent on it" Oakwood Theme Park commented on your photo. Oakwood Theme Park wrote "Jacqueline, did you tell us at the time if you thought something was dirty and old? All feedback helps and it would have been great to know at the time if something wasn't as it should have been. We can't see things through your eyes unless you actually tell a member of staff on the day. If something needed cleaning and you'd have told us, it'd have been done! That said, we are on patrol at all times in the day and our cleaning standards are usually commended quite highly." Tracy Lloyd commented on your photo. Tracy wrote "Surely these conditions don't apply to the larger rides Oakwood? If so having notices on your tills when we get there(after along drive) will not be acceptable to us! We are frequent visitors to Alton Towers, and apart from the occasional breakdown, they do not operate in this way!" Oakwood Theme Park commented on your photo. Oakwood Theme Park wrote "Hi Mark, we're sorry to see you didn't enjoy your day. If you want to list specific details about your complaint and send it to [email protected], we'll review your comments and get back to you as soon as we can." Rhys Evans commented on your photo. Rhys wrote "Mark, you're not alone! I went a few weeks back not having been there since before speed was installed, noticed several of the points you made although due to work didn't get round to writing a formal complaint."

Needs money spent from new owners Aspro!.No comment cards available for feedback, Saying that staff were very pleasant but on this weeks showing I won't be going back for a long time.Ian

“Disgraseful”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mikearcher on 20/06/2011

This park has gone seriously downhill, it's had to know where to start.. 1) The golf is advertised as free, but after paying £1 deposit per player, when you return they point to a sign which says '£1 deposit 50p returned', yeah, 50p may be a minor amount but it's still decietfull and just a small indication of how this park rips off it's customers 2) The toilets near speed had something wrong with their drains, the smell was bad, walking neer ther area made me feel sick, it became apparent that the park was aware of the problem and unwilling to fix it when I passed later and the place stunk of bleach. 3) The toilets near Megaphobia had no working locks on the cubicles, and also stunk. 4) The staff on the tobogann ride were somewhat obessed with health and safetly and loved to exagurate the dangers. According to the staff, "loads of people" have lost their fingers through not following their advice, and when I laughed at the over the top health and safety instructions given I was advised that I should take it very seriously as the last person to laugh at it had to be 'scraped off the track'. I found that rather bad taste considering the park has previously been prosecuted for causing the death of a guest... 5) Alot of the rides are now on a rotational basis and not open all of the time. 6) The food tasted really bad, which is sad, as their burgers used to be the nicest I've tasted. They were cooked to fast and were burnt on the outside but not properly cooked in the middle, fat dripped out when I bit into it, disgusting!

“Have not been for a few years, Bounce was closed yet...”

written by on 06/05/2011

Have not been for a few years, Bounce was closed yet we still had to pay full price for entry which quite frankly is disgustingly high for what they have there compared to other parks !!! Only had one of everything on tracks so even though not that bust, made queues for some up to an hour, ridiculous. Snake river falls only had one of each slide open so we queued for 3/4 of an hour for that, they had 5 boats on !!!!!!!!!!! 5 !!!!! Shocking. My burger was charcoaled on one side so much i had to throw it in the bin. We queued for the alpine slide for 42 minutes, they only had 6 toboggans on. Speed closed for repair to the tracks and the toilets were filthy. Unbelieveable how bad it has gotten in 2 years. Needs money ploughed into it and as we other parks, some offers of buy one get one free tickets to justify going through the gate. NOT HAPPY !!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow what has happened to oakwood. After been for a few years, sister came home for weekend and we thought going to oakwood would be a good idea. First bounce was closed reading another review it's been closed since April. Just not good enough. Overpriced what i paid for was way to high. The place is dirty and looks old, snake river falls had only 2 slides working but it took ages to get the boats up to top. food was overpriced and burger I had was burnt. The hole place needs a make over or it will be left behind. When season finishes they need to say let's close for a year and bit and rework the park.

“We decided to take my two brothers today to oakwood...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/04/2011

We decided to take my two brothers today to oakwood park. 1st if cost £65 for two adults and two children to enter, we were lucky to have had a 20% voucher to have the entry cheaper. the park today was a huge disappointment as the following were issues-
1. Bounce was closed
2. the water slide was closed
3. jake's gold mine food area was closed
4. only two out of the 4 slides on snake river falls was open.
5. the toilets were appalling.
6 the food was over priced (£6.50 for a jacket potato)
7. after riding the tree tops coaster once it then broke and was closed for the rest of the day.
8. same with the ferrice wheel ride that once and then it broke by the afternoon.
The whole place needs a good clean and a re vamp. its disgusting how much people pay to get in and what they are greeted with is far from acceptable. SHOULD we have paid full price for the above?
I THINK NOT

written by heeidiii on 14/04/2011

I visited this park when I was about 11, and it happened to be a couple of weeks after a girl died when she fell out the hydro water ride (as it was closed off).
I don't remember much as it was quite a long time ago, but the park had a serious problem with wasps. They were EVERYWHERE. We took our own picnic, tried to sit down to eat but they were around our food, it was horrible! We didn't eat the whole day just because we couldn't.
This obviously put a downer on our whole day. The rides had such long queues, even the smaller kids rides were long-queued.
Don't get me wrong, when I did finally get on a ride, I enjoyed it, they have lots of decent rides there and plenty of things to do.
I just hope they've sorted their wasp problem, because other than that it's a good day out.

“I would recommend Oakwood to a friend but I would warn...”

★★☆☆☆

written by Millyvista on 10/08/2010

I would recommend Oakwood to a friend but I would warn them of the following . . .
The park is not a patch on the well loved place that the last owners kept! £20 each to get in and £15 for over 3s is very expensive. We only went as we had the Tescos days out vouchers, which Oakwood won't except as of the end of August.
The park looked like it needed a make over! All of the rides looked old and uncared for. The staff were miserable and looked like they didn't want to be there at all!
The toilets were disgusting, Especially the baby changing facility - the changing bed did not feel secure and it all looked very dirty. In the general toilet we told our children NOT to wash their hands as the mess in the sink was foul!
Being local I feel like the downfall of Oakwood is a real shame, I remember the "Buzz" at the After Dark nights and how it was immaculate. If I had to hand over £70 hard cash to take my family and then pay the high prices that they charge for food in the park then no I wouldn't go again! There are lots of lovely places in Pembrokeshire to go and I think that I would hit them instead.
