We rented from FireFly at Lyon Airport via EasyCar last February; we drove the car from the airport to our destination, where it was parked for 9 days, then drove it back. There was not a crumb in that car yet we were charged for "specialised cleaning". Neither FireFly nor EasyCar were in any way helpful in dealing with our complaint. Also we were overcharged for fuel. Will not rent via EasyCar again.

I'll have to break the trend here and say I actually got quite good service from Easycar. When I arrived at Edinburgh Airport to collect a car from Budget/Thrifty Rentals, which had been booked through Easycar, there was none. Nor could Easycar be contacted as they were closed for a public holiday. Budget had no record of the booking, and I was forced to rent another, more expensive car. However, Easycar have since surprised me by refunding the cost of my booking and also the extra money I had to spend on the new car. Whilst I would have preferred the booking to have been disaster free, most car hire companies have bad reviews on the internet. If all companies may cause trouble, I'd rather choose one who I can trust to solve the problem afterwards.

I rented a car with EasyCar on Cyprus, Larnaca Airport in August 2010 for 2 weeks. It was one of the lowest prices I could find with an 24hours office directly in airport (it was essential for me, as many local car rentals were situated near the airport (2-3 km from) - not the best variant, and international car rentals were far more expensive)
I was really shoked with feedbacks of other customers posted here (I red them after booking the car, and almost decided to cancel the order but fortunatelly didn't do that).
The provider of the car was EuropCar. I received my car timely and in good conditions, no unexpected situations occurred.
So, why my rating is average and good, not excelent:
1)I recived the car not even mentioned in both EasyCar and Europcar pages. (I received 5 door KIA Picanto, instead of 3 doors Peugeot 206 or Opel Corsa. Thus I received cheaper car, but 5 doors instead)
2) The Car had minor damages on it (but they were all noted in Rental Agreement)
3) The Car was not on the place noted by car provider employee. (we found it in row #3 instead of raw #9) :)
4) The deposit was not blocked on my credit card (I am 100% sure as I have internet banking)- it is not bad, but a sign that there is a minor mess in rental company.
Thus, my experience with EasyCar was positive and I will use them in future.
I understand that there are a lot of adverse feebacks here on EasyCar, but I believe some situations could be avoided.
The following - are my personal recommendations how to avoid such situations:
1) Do not order car with low cost car rentals less than 3 days before the car rental period (EasyCar page does not allow this, but stil. They need some time to arrange the deal with car provider). In such case order the car only directly, it would be more expensive, but with 100% guarantee. There was a girl standing behind me and talking agressively with some low cost provider - shy cried that ordered car yesturday, but the car provider refused to provide her the car.
2) Check that the initial order fees were written from your account (if the amount is not written - than probably the deal is not effective)
3) Pay on arrival (in general it is couple euros more expensive, but thus you will avoid losing all moneys if the car is not provided to you)
4) Do not order the additional insurance in advance - you can do it upon arrival, it does not take much time, but you will avoid pottential double payments. This relate only to insurance as for GPS and baby seat - there is a high probability that they will not be available upon arrival.
5) Be prepared that all the Car Rentals charge up to 200% of market price of fuel (I was charged with 65 euros, when the tank is 35 liters, and the market price per liter was about 1.06 euros per liter)
6) Check in advance what company will be the car provider. I prefer internationally well known companies or local with good reputation. (Before ordering on EasyCar I used another company, but when I received a confirmation order - it stated that the car provided is situated 6 km from Airport, so I had to cancel the deal).
7) Be prepared that with EasyCar you cannot change the deal conditions at all. You will be charged again with full mount (if you are lucky and selected "pay on arrival" option - you will lose only intial payment, but if you paid all amount - you will lose all). So order with EasyCar only when you are 100% sure.!!!!
Thank you,
and good luck in car rental

What you have to realise is that Easycar are only agents and therefore at the time of making the agreement, you have no idea who the eventual hire company is going to be. If the company turns out to be Europcar or one of the other major players then you are reasonably safe. If , like us, the company turns out to be one that was in administration last December and who openly admits that they can't afford to repair their fleet, then you have a problem!

What I'm looking for is some transparency from the car hire agents (like Easy Car) in that they tell you who the ultimate company is going to be BEFORE you finalise the deal. You could then carry out checks on the company and make an informed decision

The problem with companies like Easy Car is that they are agents ONLY i.e. they arrange your car hire through a third party and it's entirely "pot luck" as to who you get.

In this instance, the hirer was allocated a car from Europcar - a perfectly reputable company. The problems begin when Easy Car chooses a non-reputable "partner" (like we experienced in Spain).

I maintain that during the booking process, the potential customer ought to be aware of the end partner so that they can make an informed decision one way or the other - that's not the case at the moment, this information is only given once the booking is completed.
