Cecil, Subtitles - In 1998 The British Rock Outfit
Cecil, Subtitles - In 1998 the British rock outfit 'Cecil' released their second album "Subtitles" that followed up from the awesome eight track album "Bombar Diddlah." The release was accompanied by an extensive tour of the UK, promoting the album.
The tracklisting is as follows:
1. Larger Than A Mountain To The Ant
2. Zips For Lips
3. The Most Tiring Day
4. Red Wine At Dead Time
5. Full Stop
6. Acres
7. Hostage In A Frock
8. Measured
9. Love Tooth
10. Charm Wrestling
11. In This Day & Aged
Seeing a new take on their music, 'Cecil' deliver a very well-produced, intelligent album that works with layered depths on the songs. From the start of the album we are treated to the group's more acoustic and atmospheric sound, as they unravel track after track of winning numbers. Track three 'The Most Tiring Day' was released as a single and stands out as a modern day anthem. The songwriting is truly superb, mapping out a collection of addictive melodies and song changes. Next, we have the bitter and rockin' classic track "Red Wine At Dead Time" that also became a single. The album returns to its quieter roots once again until the powerful track "Hostage In A Frock" hits you in the face bringing out a irresistible, sing-along chorus and chunky guitar riffs. The track was also released as a single.
The album continues on with the usual high standard of songwriting that we have come to expect from the band. All in all, the CD is an absolute must-buy for anyone into British rock/grunge from the '90s.
