“When I first bought the Motorola V620 mobile phone in...”

★★★★☆

written by Phil101mcr on 19/04/2006

When I first bought the Motorola V620 mobile phone in February 2004, I thought the style of the phone was brilliant, and it had nearly all the features that I wanted. The keypad and menu system is fairly easy and simple to use. The camera and video quality is very good, and the camera reacts well when taking a photo in the sunlight.

The phone will sometimes react slowly to a pressed button 2-4 seconds earlier. I also feel that the phone is a bit chunky, and you will be able to feel it in your pocket, especially if you wear jeans.

Overall, this phone is pretty good, but now with the Motorola v3, PEBL and SLVR models out, I wouldn't recommend you choose this phone if you were looking for something that is better, but if you want a phone that is simple to use and has good features, then this is a good phone to get.

“I was so excited when I found out I was going to get...”

★★☆☆☆

written by V15 on 10/02/2006

I was so excited when I found out I was going to get the Motorola V620 mobile phone because I thought it looked great, and people had told me Motorola's were good (I previously had a Nokia 3100 which was boring).

However, I began to have doubts when the assistant at Carphone Warehouse showed it to me. I decided it looked rather bulky, but I thought that was OK and I'd cope!

I got the phone home and noticed that it had a brilliant camera, and I loved the themes, but I thought it should have been provided with more than 3 themes.

About a week later I met up with my friends and I asked them to send me some songs via bluetooth, as I understood you could use MP3's as ringtones. I received one. However, I had to delete all my videos and some pictures, as it did not have enough memory (5.5Mb is clearly not enough).

I discovered a month later that my bluetooth connection had broken as I could not receive anything from other phones. I could only send them.

I'm sorry to say that after 3 months of having this phone I have decided to change it to a Sony Ericsson W550i which has everything that the Motorola didn't (eg MP3 player, mega-pixel camera, and FM radio etc). I believe that Motorola need to think more about memory in future, as I have heard that other Motorola phones have little memory as well. It is a shame, because if the manufacturers would have spent more time thinking about including more features on it and more memory, then this phone would have sold a lot more. Also, they should have thought about pre-installing the picture messaging settings on this phone, as I tried to text the settings service, but on numerous attempts there seemed to be a problem getting them to my phone.

I didn't think it was worth the £129.99 that I paid for it.

“I really wanted to buy the Motorola V620 mobile phone....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by muckiann on 06/01/2006

I really wanted to buy the Motorola V620 mobile phone. It looks great, and it has a nice design and great screen. So I bought one, and then I tried to use it.

When sending a text message you can't see the number/details of the person you are sending to, only the name you gave to the phone book; so if you have several entries for 'Tom' e.g. work, home etc., you'd better name them properly.

The battery life is rubbish. I don't get a signal in work, so I have to recharge it every night. I think the Motorola is wasting power searching for a network continuously, whereas my old Nokia was clever enough to stop after a while and retry at reasonable intervals?

It doesn't come with anything to enable you to get pictures taken with the camera off the phone! Amazing huh? Not even a £1 cable! It doesn't use a memory card, so this omission is even more annoying. Saying that, the camera is not too bad, but it gets 'fluffed' easily, as the lens is recessed into the body of the phone and has no covering 'window'.

The software on the phone is so buggy I can make it crash at will during calls by trying to access my phone book etc. Just you try and swap between calls, and you soon find the wonderful world of the flashing/rebooting phone.

I'm hoping there is a newer version of the software available, otherwise I'll be dumping this phone really soon. (I bought mine for £100 SIM free).

I love the Motorola V620 mobile phone so much, and I would recommend it to anyone in the world! It's better than my friends phone, and hers is a pink tiny Vodaphone flip phone!

“I've had this phone for nearly a year now, and I'm...”

★★★★★

written by Jenesis on 22/08/2005

I've had this phone for nearly a year now, and I'm very pleased with it. The integrated high-resolution camera takes good snaps every time, and the zoom and brightness adjusters make it easy to shoot what you want. The calendar and multiple alarm functions help organise your life, and the ring lights (very cool!) give it an extra splash of class when someone calls or texts.
There are three main downsides to this phone. Firstly, the unit is quite fragile: I had mine for two weeks and it stopped receiving any kind of signal (no calls or texts). I took it back, and the new unit has not developed this problem, so maybe it was an isolated incident.
Another issue, also mentioned on this site, is the difficulty in setting up WAP and MMS. To do that I had to contact my network and get them to help; I could not have done it myself. Thirdly, I have some concerns about the charger; it charges quite slowly, says the battery is full when it's not, and makes an audible buzzing sound when you plug it in.
Overall, this is a good phone, as the faults are few and non-intrusive, if you get your network to set up the WAP for you. The style and media applications (video, photo, themes, MP3 ringtones) will definitely appeal to young people, and the almost infinite customisation capability (many clip-on fascias, aerials, and changeable themes) will make it easy to make the phone unique to you.

I love the V620! I work for a phone company and I have gone back to this as it is to hard to keep on top of the phone industry these days. I love the way it feels, the menus take a while to get used to...the battery is great and no such problems with anything. I like it better than the V635-newer model...I like way it works, like the layout..everything..wouldnt normally go for Motorolas due to past repututation-it is all wiped now- A GREAT HANDSET!!!

I love the Motorola V620 as it has a good battery life as my other phone Motorola C 975 battery only lasted 6 hours, it was rubbish. I'm very dissappointed that the time goes upside down somtimes and when I open the phone the screen goes blank. I want to know what is wrong with it.

written by shamalicious on 14/04/2005

Mixed feelings about this phone. I think it's incredibly stylish, has a great resolution and great extra features (for us young ones). However, I have had this phone for 4 months and still can't get WAP or MMS. For the last month I have had difficulty hearing whoever calls, now I can't hear anyone at all, so I have to put it on speakerphone (embarrassing for the caller and loads of unnecessary hassle), which in turn drains the battery.

I took the phone to be repaired and it has yet again stopped working after another two months. Can't hear anyone on the phone again! Rubbish!

“I've had the Motorola V620 for a few weeks and I am...”

★★★★★

written by scubra on 21/01/2005

I've had the Motorola V620 for a few weeks and I am very impressed overall. I'm now used to the Motorola interface which is quite different to Nokia or Siemens (the other brands I've owned) but it's highly customisable. The iTap text messaging system is very quick at learning new words, but it is a pain when you're first starting out with the phone. Reception has been good too.

The camera is of decent quality (although not on par with the VGA cameras of Nokia mobiles) - at least good enough for quick snaps and picture messaging.

The other big problem is that I have to press the keys quite hard to register the letters on the screen. Apart from this, the features and smart all-black look definitely wins points for style especially compared to the LG and Samsung silver look.

It's something different from the V600 and V3 users out there and definitely stands out (although the software and features of the V620 and V3 are virtually identical). My only major disappointment was that the Monopoly game has been removed and they've put a Golf game and Top Gun (still good) as replacements.

My handset came with the settings of all UK operators preloaded (a big help) but I think the hellomoto.com website has a configurator for MMS/WAP.

“I have had the Motorola V620 for over a month now and...”

★★★★★

written by spoly13 on 05/01/2005

I have had the Motorola V620 for over a month now and am more than pleased with this phone. I have had many other brands e.g. Nokia, Samsung and find this phone to be superior in many ways. The black front is striking and stands out in a crowd since most people are all using silver phones. When you receive a phone or text a ring of changing colours flashes in the front screen making it easy to identify an incoming call if you are in a noisy environment. The colour screen inside is amazing with a vivid, rich colour display on a large screen. The camera is definitely above average allowing for self portraits with the mirror feature as well as zoom feature and video/sound. The ringtones provide everything one could ask for. It goes beyond polyphonic providing real tones that are rich and delightful to hear. Unlike the other reviewer I found the menu quite easy to navigate and the buttons large and responsive to touch. Phone calls are made and received without problems, clarity of sound and no connection problems at all. The only problem I have had is related to downloading wallpapers or ringtones and sending picture messages. These problems, however, are more related to my network provider (Virgin...who claim they cannot give me these features as I did not buy a "Virgin phone") rather than Motorola. I would highly recommend this phone...it is NOT the same as the Motorola V600 which had a poor rating...this phone is superb!

“When I've turn on the Motorola V620 / V600i, I was...”

★★★★☆

written by rammm on 22/12/2004

When I've turn on the Motorola V620 / V600i, I was almost in shock, the screen resolution it's amazing, is not too much big, because the pixels are smaller than other's phones, but everything on this screen can be read very easy. The camera have great resolution too, including the video recording.
It have a great quality sound too it seems to me that it have 3 speakers, and the tones preinstalled sounds great.
battery life is great too, you can play games, taste all the sounds, watch video, take pictures, and talk for several days with one charge.
Menu...well, confusing, as all motorola phones, I still can't find the wap settings, (user manual doesn't help so much)and motorola website doesn't have wap and MMS configurators as other brands (at least I can't find it).
Everything else is great, it's a great 320$ phone. My box includes the USB data cable, freehand, a little strap, CD ROM, and manual (I think all brands and models should be sold with the data cable included).
