Have owns several big name 4x4's the Sorento is as good as any of them, more comfortable and definately more miles per gallon, getting 38.
Taking price into account this has to be of the best buys on the market today.
Travelling through Yorkshire in up to 500mm snow,no problem at all, eats up the miles on the motorway, had a small problem with the cruise control, took it in and they fixed it while I waited, overall I am well impressed and would have another.
Have yet to tow with it,but there is so much torque,it must be good.

I got my sorrento xs about 3 months ago and i really love it.It is brilliant for towing with and a very comfortable jeep to drive. It does 34 mpg which im quite happy with as other jeeps only do between 24 and 30. For value for money and comfort i would recommend the sorrento jeep to anyone. I looked at jeeps same age and low miles and they where all 6 to 10 grand more expensive than the sorrento. Also it has heated seats full leather interior and sat nav, and is generally well finished. I hope to drive this jeep for many years and would def go for a kia again....

Ive had my Kia Sorento for two months now and to be honest, for value for money you can't beat it. Its a little sluggish but its a big car but thats my only niggle. Otherwise the build quality is amazing for the on-road price. It feels as good as the Aude Q7, you get loads of extras that would cost you a fortune with the other 4X4's. It feels solid when your driving and the interior is a work of art, easy to use the controls that feel very expensive. Its practical as a seven seater and with the seats down its huge.
If you are in the market for a 4X4 then you really need to consider the Kia Sorento. If you d-badged the car it would pass for a £40,000.00 car. Amazing price, amazing drive, amazing quality, what more do you want

I've had my sorento for 3 years and 3 days before the warranty ran out the gearbox went. 2 teeth sheared off. Took it into dealers on the Saturday (warranty ran out on the Monday) showed them the problem and the service guy said to come back next week as the guy I needed wasn't in. Went back on the Tuesday to see the 'right' guy and he said it's too late, the warranty ran out last night. Even though the Saturday man remembered seeing me they refused to acknowledge that I had reported it to them before the warranty ran out. I wrote to Kia customer service weeks ago and have yet to receive either acknowledgement or any communication from them. I've really enjoyed the Sorento but the customer service is attrocious. This is my second Kia but I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole now.

I have owned my Kia since new on November 2006. Done 90,000 faultless Kms over all terrain. We do some serious 4WD offroad trips through bad roads, snow, ice and sand. The Kia travels as well as any 4WD I have driven and I am now thinking about replacing it with the new Sorento. Shame the new shape isn't here yat. Value for money nothing tops it

I bought a new Kia Sorento in Spain in September 2007. So far the car has done 26500kms, including a European tour. It is a comfortable tourer, as well as a competent cross country vehicle, coping with Spanish dirt roads effortlessly.
Apart from some minor complaints with the built in GPS, so far the only problem has been a small oil leak which appeared 2 weeks ago. The car is due for service in April and the leak will be assessed at that time.
I have found the dealership (a small, 2 man, old style garage) to be prompt, helpful and efficient and this is the second car bought through them, the first being a 2000 model Rio.
Running costs are a good deal cheaper than UK, road tax typically 90 euro, major service 150 euro etc. In almost 50 years of motoring, this is the first 4x4 I have owned and can recommend the Sorento and the Kia marque in general.

I have a 2008 sorrento. I really like this vehicle. Great handling, nice ride, but firm truck like ladder suspension. The on the fly 4 wheel drive is great. I can't wait to get into this car and drive it each day. Great power too. Will pull 5000 pounds! This SUV is the most underrated product on the marlet in its class.

Bought the kia Sorento 2.5D XT approx 11 months ago (July 2007) the vehicle now is approx 2yrs 10 months old, just done 21,000 miles, over the last few weeks we have notice a bit of a chuging when pulling off and when idling, the car was due for a major service so booked it in to the Kia dealer in swansea where I purchased the car from, it was in for a day, and when I got it back it drove exactly the same, I was told the car had to come back in 7 days time, for an engine diagnostic check, (tues 22nd July) I was told the fuel smelt different and that I might have put unleaded in by mistake, which I know I have not done, any way they drained my fuel out, replaced with new diesel, at a cost to me and also replaced the fuel filter, again at a cost on top of the normal service price. I have just phoned the garage today friday 25th, to be told that the fuel pump has imploaded, causeing damage to the Rail, the injectors, and there might be more damage as well, at this moment in time the dealer is waiting for Kia to give the OK for the work to be done under warranty.
Don't know the full extent of the damage yet and waiting for an update from the dealer.

Update on my fuel problem, the car went in the garage for a full diagnostic, to find out the fuel pump had imploaded, the full fuel system was replaced from the fuel pump forward including the fuel rail, injectors etc, and all on waranty, thankfully, other wise the garage told me the bill would have been circa £4,000.00, what I did not like was that the garage would not give me a breakdown of what was done for me to put with the service history! They said it would be kept on their computer system.
Any way got the Sorento back, and all is working ok again, the Sorento was in the garage for a full two weeks, and the garage give me a courtousy vehicle for the duration, all in all I was very pleased with the service and the response to the problem.

I have owned my Kia Sorento XE for 4 years in May. Last month the engine siezed up because of no oil and i needed a replacement engine at a cost of £7350. I asked Kia where the oil went because it was OK two weeks previously and i noticed no leaks. Also why didn`t the oil light come on to warn me. Kia told me that they accept no responsibility because of the age of the car. It`s not 5 years old till May and has only done 47000 miles. I have written 2 letters of complaint to the Managing Director of Kia UK but have not yet replied.

The Kia Sorento 2.5 CRDi XS is very spacious it has plenty of room for a family of 5 has good road handling and plenty of power. A realiable 4x4 as good as any other on the road. I'm very happy I choose this 4x4.

Having had 3 4x4s before the Kia Sorento has to be the best yet. I tow a large caravan without complaint, positive good fuel and comfort in excess of 20,000 miles per year

Kia Sorrento XS 4x4
Having owned and used many Badged 4x4's most top of the range all used on and off road as my job takes me almost daily across landfill sites and building sites plus requireing a vehical I could use on motorways that I could depend on 24hrs a day in the UK and Europe I decided after my last 4x4 came to the end of its life to try a less expensive 4x4 to prove that I needed a badged 4x4 and to prove to myself that the cheaper utility's were mainly used for taking the children to school as they could not cope with the punishment of hard offroad work.
KIA Serento was selected after much reshearch, and what a shock I have had, the KIA performs on a motorway like a dream, off road even better matching all of the others I have owned and used exceeding my greatest expectations in Mud, Ice and Snow, comfort and cabin space is excellent and picking up overseas clients at the airport after they settle in the air-conditioned cabin relaxing in the leather seats with no noise all ask where did you get this.
The problems I suffer is the Radio reception and a relativly soft drive on the road plus maybe a bad resale value but from my point of view as I use the Car as a 4x4 I am sure I will just change my Serento for another when it needs replacing.

A complete car in all respects, some minor detail such as switch sizes and locations should be addressed.
The auto box mated to the 2.5 diesel performs a perfectly adequate job. The only major criticism is the harsh ride on some road surfaces around town. As for motorway cruising - the ride is fine, with the car well able to keep up with varying traffic conditions.
The vehicle has matched all expectations of a SUV purchase, and is proving far better purchase in all respects than my wifes Freelander.
Providing 3 year residuals are in the 48% bracket, I would have no hesitation in replacing like for like.

The Kia Sorento is a cheap (in price) off roader and it is the bee's knees. I had a 2 door coupe and was interested in the SUV market but the prices always put me off.
This brilliant new SUV was introduced into the UK in a big way and has since gone on to win 4x4 of the year by a major reviewer.
The price and equipment spec make it very appealing, trust me I own one.
Biggest dissapointment may be the depreciation price, when it passes its first birthday next Feb.

Is that the only complaint (depreciation)?
Whats the estimated amt of miles this vehicle can add up?
I plan on keeping the vehicle for as long as it lasts, any guesses?

Thank you for the response, Im still torn. Ill keep checking in and hopefully they will still have the options I want when ready.

Since my initial review, Here are some more details which may help.

Bad News - Unfortunately I have sold my Sorento due to a change in job. My new jobs location is futher away and as the Sorento is not the worst in mpg, it was still too costly for me.

Good News - At present the depreciation is not as bad as I originally thought. I only had the Sorento for 6 months and got back what I owed on the car.

More Good News - When I went to another vehicle manufacturer, they contacted many Kia dealers and the Sorento was snapped up immediately.

I cannot comment on milage or servicing as I have no experience of this.

Happy Driving

I found this review very helpful because...I,too,am buying my first 4x4 after 50 years of car owning! ( I own a classic Mk2 Jaguar + a V8 engined MG Sports so this will complete a good all-round stable!! ) Very impressed with equipment in the vehicle - leather etc. In fact it's as well equipped as a Mercedes, Audi etc - at half the price. Have been influenced by the motoring press comments about the continued reliability of Korean made cars
and am informed that, if breakdowns do happen, the warranty service is first class; this from a former Mercedes owner, now a Kia owner!!
