The Gunmakers is such a London gem that I'm almost loathe to mention it in case it gets too popular. It's atmospheric with real charm and tangible history, reflecting the diversity of the Clerkenwell area (and named after the designer of the first machine gun, no less). I'd happily shoot someone if they stole any of my honey roast pork belly with pea and potato mash, a thing of rare beauty. If you're feeling particularly British, the beer battered cod and chips are a fine example of how to elevate standard pub food to another level. With laid back clientele, a cracking wine list and truly friendly staff, it's become my London boozer of choice. Just don't tell anyone else about it.
