I have moved from Carvin (great sound but...) to vintage Fender Bassman w/4X12 and love this Mark Bass. Its exactly what I was looking for. Expensive but worth it!
I run both a old passive Fender P-Bass and an active Gibson Les Paul bass w/each getting a different but true sound out of it. No boxes or preamps, etc. just clean solid bass.

“Mark Bass STD102H Bass Cab: I have been playing bass...”

★★★☆☆

written by massiray on 14/05/2005

Mark Bass STD102H Bass Cab: I have been playing bass for over 15 years with almost every kind of band (rock, soul, blues, jazz), and I've been through with dozen of different amps. A couple of months ago I went to my usual dealer and he told me he just got a new brand of amplifier, which I definitely had to try.
After a quick try, he convinced me to bring it home, so I loaded in my car a Standard 104HR cabinet with a TA503 head.
After spending about two months playing gigs four times a week, I have to say I am just disappointed with this amp. The controls suck, and the overall capability of obtaining a decent sound is poor. The sound is plain, just too average for my tastes. I will change as soon as possible, looking for a Mesa, more expensive, but a lot better sounding.

Well this guy has no taste in bass gear , I've played for 30 years, used Mark Bass all and if this little bass amp does'nt take first prize then nothing will. This little baby takes my 5 string musicman, my 12 string hamer, and my 2 double basses one strung in gut and one strung in steel, and still want's to jive the nite away, 100% quality and tone .

These Mark bass cabs are fab at reproducing the sound of your instrument. If you don't like the sound, don't blame the cab - get a better sounding bass. As for the control, that amp has a semi parametric eq - just like nearly all serious channel strips on decent mixers. If you cant get a decent sound with that kind of tonal control, you need to learn something about eq!

“Mark Bass STD102H Bass Cab - Both the 410 and 210...”

★★★★★

written by russ grumpyjack on 05/02/2005

Mark Bass STD102H Bass Cab - Both the 410 and 210 were plugged whilst playing my USA Deluxe Jazz 5-string through it - when the guy told me it was just the 210 cab I bought it straight away for £499. It's massive for a 210 but still way smaller than a 410. Drivers have neodymium magnets and the cab can be easily lifted with one hand - it's just so light.

The huge rows (2 full width divided vents top and bottom) of ports blow out air like a leafblower when hitting low notes. Carpet covering is immaculate + also has a really tough kick grill, large inset handles and tweeter attenuator on the left hand side of the cab (which I thought was a blinding idea :D)

Sounds: really even frequency response - very little (if any) tonal colouration added to the signal. I run my SWR SM400 bridged (full 400watts) into it and it absolutely sings, massive lows whilst being nicely defined as well - damn loud, damn good cab - I've not got a bad word to say about it, which is a first - lovely cab - the portability of it caps it off, using this cab on its own is in no way a compromise between portability and sound quality. A 1x15 would no doubt be a good addition (the thought of that rig makes me dribble heh he) the low end would be enormous for such a small rig. Would love to get the Markbass 115!

Flawless in my opinion, and no-one else who has used when lent out has said otherwise.

Russ again, I still own this cab - I've owned other markbass cabs since but have moved them all on (151hr, 152hr, and a second std102h/102hf as it's now called)<br/><br/> I gig it all the time - it's the only piece of my setup that hasn't changed in the last 3.5 years - I've used it with a littlemark C (the yellow one) a GK 1001RBII and currently a Littlemark II using a range of 4 and 5 string basses- currently a Lakland DJ 5 string and bob glaub 4 string. <br/><br/> I had a lightweight 1x15 made to the same size but rarely need to use it.<br/><br/> The latest generation of this cab (with the single row of ports) doesn't have the same amount of low end which is a shame- if you can find one with 2 rows of ports, give it a go - you'll be impressed.<br/><br/>Russ
