“Very Bad Electricity Company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 22/11/2019

We have been with npower for years now and all they did was milk us for our money as much as they could anyway they could. They have terrible customer service! They make you wait for ages before anyone picks up! They come up with excuses like their computer is not working or they blame a misdeed on their co-worker to not cough up the dough they owed us! Sometimes they would take the amount twice in one month! because I would go into debt because of this I cancelled the direct debit. When the issue arose with them they charged us for cancelling it. The worse thing that happened to us is this. They charged us a wrong bill for about 3-4 years so we ended up owing them a huge amount. Turns out we were supposed to pay around 260pounds per month but they billed us 110pounds per month. The problem is is that they built up a debt against us with the remaining 150pounds every month for the 3-4 years amassing to around 5000pounds. We were gobsmacked. They did not inform us! They would not let us switch suppliers when we found fault with them until we could pay all of this back! We could do nothing but spend another 3-4years with them paying this all back little by little! to say it was a nightmare would be an understatement as you can imagine! We only just payed back everything and have switched suppliers today. Don't know how well the transfer will be. It could be another lengthy battle with them who knows? The conclusions I have gathered is that npower is in a complete mess right now. Whenever I have called the experience has left me in complete distrust towards their professionalism. They seem to be in a panic about letting go of customers. All I can say is that with our experience, we have felt that they have tried intentionally to trap us for as long as they can for as much money as they can. I assume they trapped us in debt so that even if they raise and raise and raise the prices we had no option but to stay and pay. I was shocked to see that they have been given a 1star rating by others too. I was hoping they only treated a small amount of their customers so abysmally. Looks like that is not the case! The rating speaks for itself! please save yourselves from a longlong battle with npower! PLEASE DO NOT USE THEM

“NPower executive complaint”

★☆☆☆☆

written by nishanthpu on 30/06/2019

NPower executive complaint reference number. Absolutely irresponsible and arrogant customer care department : My account was closed is 2012 even after 7 years I have no refund or resolution. Benefits being a Npower customer : 1. Disclosure of personal information to debt recovery agency even though Npower owed me a refund plus nuisance calls from debt recovery. 2. The refund never issued. A customer care executive explained they provided to charity :) 3. Charged me based on a wrong meter. Numerous trouble to get it corrected. Once corrected they never refunded the excess I paid. 4. transferred the account 2 or 3 times to a different supplier without my permission. 5. Each time they update their IT system you get a new account number with some random name on the account.

“Robbing me blind”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Hanleyes422 on 23/05/2019

If I could give NPower less than 1 star I would. Worst customer service I have ever received. I have been overcharged for the last 6 months (my bills suddenly doubled after years of being a customer), they have caused me financial difficulty, are not doing anything to help, I've told them to take me to court as they wont be getting another penny from me, the robbing......... Avoid at all costs.

“complete and utter trash”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 130Maloney on 21/03/2019

Truly abysmal service. Its taken them over 3 months, and counting, to get the account I set up with them in working order. Furthermore they have kept charging me for the same billing period despite multiple conversations with them and multiple payments to them for the same billing period. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

“Overpriced and lack understanding!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by mommybearjulie13 on 09/01/2019

Where do I begin? N Power have been a total joke from setting up an account to leaving. Their customer service could use some improvement and their prices are extortionate! I am a single parent to two and when my partner passed away things were difficult (as you can imagine). We were on a low income and because of all the other costs ended up in debt. N Power haven't been very understanding at all! I explained my situation and my budget, and that I could only afford to pay them a certain amount back each month. I made them a reasonable offer. However, this wasn't good enough for them, and they sent my bill to a debt collection agency (who have added interest to the original bill). I had to go to citizens advice and eventually to a debt resolution charity. I'm still paying back the money (despite being bereaved and on a low income), but the debt charity have helped me. The kicker to the whole situation is that the debt collection agency have been more understanding than N Power! The debt is nearly paid, but I will never go with N Power again!

“Low quality electricity - toast under cooked”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tmsix on 17/06/2018

Really poor quality electricity, ever since switching over my toast is always under cooked and needs to be put back in the toast for another few minutes. This never happened with British Gas, in fact the toast would sometime burn but when I asked my son to phone up and complain they adjusted the electricity and it was always perfectly cooked. Don't switch to n-power if you like your toast well done

Think you might be on the Wheat intolerant tariff. It's fine for veg and stuff but it's no good for bread or buns or anything. A baker's down the road from me was on it and he went bump within the year. Personally I blame that load in Brussells, the bloody do-gooders.

“ ECO scheme Terrible Service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Deborahs469 on 21/05/2018

Got a boiler installed ( ideal boiler) through Npowerā€™s ECO scheme, after 2 months of using the boiler the timer blew up. The timer blew up due to the 20 year old pump leaking. Pump which was re-used by their engineers. It took Npower over a week to send an engineer but the engineer refused to repair the boiler because he wasnā€™t trained. Disgusting service provided by Npower as I had to get my own engineer to replace the pump for Ā£200. Npower offered Ā£25 as a goodwill gesture. Iā€™ve refused it. Shame on them to provide service like this. Never use them again.

“Beware of starting an account over the phone.....”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Holbrook419 on 11/02/2018

I am writing to advise that I will be telling all of the people I know in my business breakfast networking groups ( total of 30 people in one and 22 in the other) NOT to ever use NPower because you are holding me hostage for the next 3 yrs. I am just starting a brand new business, I have not moved into the shop premises yet, I have no move in date, and I do not even have the keys, but because I signed a contract over the phone ( yes, I am nieve, this is my first time starting a new company and never realised that there is no cooling off period, plus I was told that there are no cancellation fees) I have an official complaint number I am stuck with you for 3 yrs, I will be writing to my local newspaper, and telling everyone i know what you have done. All I want to do is get out of this contract. I am a small one owner shop, well, its not even a shop yet, but you are stuck around my neck for 3 yrs, so I will tell my story for the next 3 years. Just let me go!!!

“Even 1 star is too generous”

★☆☆☆☆

written by SaniyaMeier11 on 03/12/2017

Actually the worst company i have ever had to experience. A total catalogue of errors, i have now moved to another company. I cannot stress enough how you should NOT use Npower. So months ago i was moving from Eon to Npower as it was a new property and they came up as cheaper on comparison sites. Called them up for them to take over my line. Would take 3 weeks they said. 3 weeks passed and i called them up and they had no clue who i was. Turns out they had taken over the wrong property. Some uneducated idiot who answered the phone couldn't tell the difference between number 17 and number 5!! So back to the beginning- another 3 weeks of waiting for them to take over the line. They were then due to change over my meter from a pre payment to a monthly payment one. I needed this doing urgently as pre payment is more expensive. They advised they could do it without entering the flat so i booked the appointment and went to work on that day as usual. They then called me advising they cant change it as they cant enter the property! Again- idiots!! So i rebooked- took a whole day off work- they cancelled the appointment. Rebooked again- they cancelled the appointment- another wasted day off work sitting indoors waiting for an engineer. Obviously i was fuming at this point and made a formal complaint. They then booked me for a Saturday appointment promising an engineer would definitely come tomorrow 2nd December 2017. They have just informed me they have cancelled it again!!! Shock!!! So i have just found an alternative supplier and am moving to SSE. Npower's customer service is just horrendous. Everytime you call them its like the whole call centre share one brain cell and their attitude is 'well what do you want me to do about it?' Just awful!!

“Npower is a joke”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Doinita on 22/11/2017

I just joined Bulb after having lots of grief with Npower, my usage is less then Ā£600 per year but still they increased my direct debit from Ā£70 to Ā£107 per month! I complained and got no answer!!! After reading the reviews here, I decided to join Bulb, wich I advise you to do the same :) I`ll get Ā£50 towards my bills for joining, anyone who reffers a friend gets another Ā£50, they pay my old supplier cancellation`s fee and they handle all the papers regarding switching to them. Totally recommended! bulb.co.uk/ refer/doinita

“No Bill in 9 months and no date when it will be fixed . ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by DominicMaurer on 24/09/2017

Joined moved to a new property in Jan form old house. It took Npower 3 4 months to give a final bill from the old prem and still waiting 9 months on for teh new bill. Gone via the Ombudsman but even then customer service to then says will call you back in 5 days give me all your info. You do that and no one comes back. The Customer service even tried to suggest you don't actually get bills they just take your direct debit. From my experience avoid like the plague. Totally gobsmacked a national utility can be so bad and get away with it as the Ombudsman needs to grow some teeth as cannot do anything util 80 days after your compliant. On the existing form just wounder how many months/years it might to until I get my over payment money back as switching suppliers to my old supplier that was tried and tested. So they may asay they are a cheap energy supplier , now I know why.

“AVOID AVOID AVOID! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Gemma82 on 12/09/2017

N Power have been overcharging me for my energy consumption as long as I have been with them, I asked them to fit a smart meter so I could monitor my usage and they responded with 'by law we have to fit all customers with one by 2020, therefore you will receive one by then'.... in other words no! Therefore I decided to move supplier, this is when the trouble started! they sent me a final bill of around Ā£350, this was based on 'estimated' meter readings therefore I entered the 'actual' meter readings (which were lower) on to my online account, the amount owed then went up to around Ā£420! I called them to query this and they insisted this was correct and I must pay this amount immediately or they would stop my switch, I received numerous emails each day telling me to pay the outstanding balance, I didn't pay this amount therefore they stopped my switch! after numerous complaints we came to the conclusion I owe them Ā£50 so I paid this and the switch continued. The following month I received another final bill in which I owed them Ā£181! I queried this and they insisted it was correct as it was generated from my 'actual' meter readings, after weeks of emails and phone calls and threats of taking the complaint further with an outside organisation today they have informed me that the actual final bill is Ā£6 and the readings were 'estimated' hence the huge over charge. If I had of paid all these amounts when they were demanding forcefully I would be hugely out of pocket now and in debt, there is no explanation what so from N Power other than 'as a gesture of good will' they are adding Ā£6 to my account to write off the final bill. I have been with my new supplier around 14 days and have already had a smart meter fitted...............

“14 months to refund my Ā£1,000 on leaving”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nathanialb1950 on 27/07/2017

Where is the zero star! How can a company take 14 months to agree to refund you the Ā£1,000 they owe you on leaving - and once agreed say it will take 28 days to get to you. On top of that do they pay you any interest - of course not. All it says is "in this instance our systems have clearly failed". From the other reviews on this site it appears its systems fail quite a lot.

“STAY AWAY FROM NPOWER”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 431Robertson on 23/02/2017

Used to be a customer but left following their constant price hikes. Had an outstanding balance to pay and have been treated like a criminal by their customer service team. They are unable to return a phone call to a landline, always ring from an unknown number and don't leave a message - then blame the customer for not getting in touch. Stay away from them - there are far better energy companies out there and I would go as far to say I'd pay more to not use Npower, they are that bad. BE WARNED

“NPower is Ok, but suffers from poor systems.”

★★★☆☆

written by on 28/12/2016

I've been with NPower for several years now, and have benefited from some very competative fixed tariffs. Their UK based staff are easy to understand, friendly and try hard to be helpful in my experience. There have been problems though:- I've been charged on the wrong tariff and had to have several bills recalculated, and I've had lots of problems changing my bank details recently. In my experience, persistence works, but I keep records and argue my complaints logically. Oh, and I always pay in arrears by quarterly direct debit, so they never owe me much money. I was with EON before and never had any problems at all, but they were much more expensive than NPower for my circumstances. In summary I quite like NPower, but wish they could get their systems to work properly. I will stay with them as long as they are saving me money.

“Never Never deal with this company”

★☆☆☆☆

written by tvBartlett458 on 18/11/2016

I was a single person living in my property back then when i was with NPOWER but the amount they charged me for my gas and electricity was tremendous. i am so surprised at the bills i got as i was working full time and i had to pay a lot and every time i use to call them for the answer i never would get a straight answer. i now realise that this has to be a team, team full of greedy beggers.....i am sure i have lots of credits with them but they did not and will not give anyone an honest money back. i strongly recommend people to get your bills checked.

I'm a student client of NPower during the last year. After closing my account a month ago with a credit of Ā£560, they told me they will get it back to my account in a few days. I've messaged them several times about it because I haven't received my money back, and I haven't received an answer. What could I do? Thank you.

Npower were a absolute nightmare when I changed suppliers and tried to get my due refund last year. I found it was a total waste of time phoning and was fobbed off with all sorts of different excuses. In the end I managed to find these details to contact executive level complaints which got things moving once I threatened them with the Ombudsman. This was May 2013 but hopefully the email will still be the same. Good luck!

Hi, I recently left NPower because of their atrocious billing problems - well reported in the UK media. I too suffered the lack of communication and eventually voted with my feet. You may have to be patient, complaining to the toothless regulator will get you nowhere in my experience - even if they have strengthened their hand they are likely swamped with complaints. I would try embarrassing NPower (not sure that is possible) on social media, although I found it difficult to find customer complaints on Facebook (well hidden I suppose) although I am no Facebook expert. You could also try Twitter - I did see one conversation on there (I am not on Twitter) regarding help retrieving a cheque for someone - tag @npowerhelp. I'll be interested in hearing other solutions as I too have suffered at their hands. Good Luck, I really hope you get this solved - and quickly.

You need to call them and record the call, possibly on your mobile, use saynoto0870 to find a landline number for them. But keep calling them, and also invoice them for the phone calls and time you have spent trying to get this resolved. The key here is to keep at them and don't let them forget about you, but always ALWAYS be polite to whoever you speak to and explain clearly exactly what you want them to do. I know this is probably not what you wanted to hear but it's the best advice I can give having dealt with many useless customer service agents not just at Npower but at many different companies.

Complain to the Energy Ombudsman and let npower know. Alternatively put in a claim through the small claims court against npower, dint forget to add interest to the amount your are claiming as well as inconvenience and distress.
Report this content Fireplaces Written on: 15/07/2014
Hi, I would send them a recorded delivery letter, stating all the facts and stipulate that despte previous assurances you are still oustanding the amount due and therefore you will give them 14 days to refund in full or you will raise a claim in the small claims court and any incurred fees will also be recovered. I would also state that they should also forward an additional amount to hat owed to cover any lost interest and for all your costs and inconvenience. Good luck.
Report this content MrRee Written on: 15/07/2014
Give them 10 working days to refund your money - do this in writing to their HQ Address - say that you reserve the right to take legal action to have your money refunded. Check that you have all the evidence proving, beyond doubt, that they owe you the money and then take out a County Court Summons on them in your local Court. The claim will include your costs - they will refund you rather than attend Court. It's really simple to get justice, just follow the steps and make sure you have everything in place. Good luck!

forget mailing - get on social media and put your situation in the public domain - Tweet or Facebook. time to put a stop to their complete disregard for their customers financial situation. good luck
