Well, of course it's not a 557.. The latter costs almost twice the price and delivers double the power.

There's not much though in sound quality between them..

The Meridian 556 Is An Amplifier That, Because Of

The Meridian 556 is an amplifier that, because of it's totaly neutral sound, does not intrude in the audio chain, but presents a sonic picture exactly as it's been recorded.

Which can be, a good and bad thing at the same time.

Good recorded material realy comes through brilliantly, while so so recordings are exposed for what they are.

The treble is very well projected without any harshness, at all levels, while at the lower registers the amp. has enough power to exercise a tight control of the speakers ( in my case KEF Reference 3.2), and go low without the boom.

The amplifier - in typical Meridian fashion - is a very elegant piece of equipment that has a high 'wife acceptance factor', always a plus.

All in all, at 100 watts / ch. / 8 ohm load it's a very capable amp. and will drive 'difficult' speakers with relative ease.
