Despite the fact that many think Duran Duran are a band for older people, I would recommend listening to this album, you may surprise yourselves.
I was a Durany in the 80's and still am today, and I tell everyone who laughs that I will take them to their next concert, and guarantee that they will not disappoint.
For men fast approaching their 50s they are fabulous live and put on a real show.
This album is a real eclectic mix of sounds and styles.........the lyrics to most of the songs are meaningful whether they have a point to make or whether they are just tongue in cheek......my favourite line....."what if its real, what if you were faking, what if you knew you could?"

“Duran Duran, Astronaut - Contrary to popular belief,...”

Duran Duran, Astronaut - Contrary to popular belief, Duran Duran are not an 80s band. They formed in the 70s, and released more albums in the 90s than the decade everyone associates them with. They never split up, the line-up just changed. They never stopped touring, they just stopped attracting hysterical teenagers. Duran Duran have always been around. We just stopped caring.

That was until the original 5 members reunited three years ago. Ignition sequence start: they won a Lifetime Achievement award at the Brits. Engines on: they embarked on a world tour, sold-out in every stadium. All engines running: they were honoured with astronaut trophies for Outstanding Contributions at the Video Music Awards in New York. Maybe this accolade inspired the title? Astronaut, the first studio album the original line-up have recorded in 21 years, will be available in stores from October 12th. We have lift off.

Opening with their current single, the annoyingly catchy (Reach Up For The) Sunrise, there's plenty more where that came from. Want You More!, Astronaut, Nice and Taste the Summer are radio-friendly, feelgood pop songs, Taylor-made for the dancefloor darlings. The cheesy swing-along, sing-along Bedroom Toys is out to get a few giggles with its tongue firmly planted in its cheek. Then when you're all boogied out, the music takes an unexpected dark and chilling turn. Finest Hour, Chains, One of Those Days, Point of No Return and Still Breathing are edgier, deeper songs with rocky roots and pessimistic undertones. These songs can make you laugh, cry, dance, sing and feel like someone's walking over your grave - sometimes all at once.

The second single scheduled for release, What Happens Tomorrow, is a carefully crafted anthem featuring impressive guitarwork from Andy Taylor (who, aside from Duran Duran, is best known for his solo in Robert Palmer's Addicted To Love - a stiff two fingers to those who think the band are nothing more than pretty boys). Produced by Don Gilmore, who recently worked on Linkin Park's Meteora album, it's gems like this that won't let you hate the album. Even if you want to hate Duran Duran and everything bad about the 80s that they've come to represent, Astronaut is their quantum leap back to this century - and just like Dr Samuel Beckett, it's here to put right what once went wrong.

The album is far from faultless; over-produced in places, and too poppy to please in others, but it will send latent Duranoids into orbit, and catch many others on its way to the top.
