Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason - If you want to see a good Bridget Jones movie, I recommended 'Bridget Jones's Diary' from 2001 or alternatively, you can go to the cinema and see a less funny version of that first film, it's called 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason'. I really wanted to like this film and while it did make me laugh, I couldn't shake the strong feeling of deja vu that plagued me all the way through. The film makers have abandoned genuinely funny plots from the second book in favour of repeating jokes from the first film. The three central performances from Bridget and her fellas are, once again, wonderfully entertaining but I just wonder why they bothered to turn up and do it all again when they've already done it before in a better film. Jim Broadbent and Gemma Jones, so fantastic as Bridget's parents, are woefully under-used as are the characters of Tom, Jude and Shazza. Some great comedy moments aren't enough to save this film from being nothing more than a poor cousin to Bridget's first outing.

Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason - Worth going to see for the laughs it provides! Definitely a girls night out but there is something for the lads as well! Renee Zellwegger plays Bridget in a funny and very believable way! Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy is funny in a very serious way! and Hugh Grant is his usual ascerbic self!

Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason - I wish I could say I didn't know nearly every line of the first Bridget Jones movie, but I'd be lying! I think the same fate is in store for me with the Bridget Jones The Edge Of Reason! This film is a lot of fun and very charming. Renee delivers a delightful performance as Bridget and despite the fact that she has to fall face down in a pig sty, have her bottom zoomed in on (again) and lie at full stretch across a sky light, she does not make our heroine look like a duffus! The chemistry between Bridget and Mark is strong and Colin Firth is as irrestable as ever. Hugh Grant's character has been given a much bigger part than in the book. This works well, though it is unfaithful to the book and their meeting in Thailand takes away from the main problem in store for Bridget on that trip! For all of you who were wondering how the film was going to get around the scene in the book when Bridget interviews Colin Firth, you needn't worry as this has been omitted from the film, though it would have been an interesting one...
The scenes in Thailand were definitely the high points in the film for me. The prison scenes were touching and entertaining and the Madonna tribute was very funny. Though it was very enjoyable, there were fewer surprises in this film than in the first. The characters don't develop as much as they do in the second book and the breakup of Bridget and Mark is not as big a part of the film as it is in the book. Having said that, it is inevitable that the book will be cut down and what is there is not at all disappointing. This film works really well and is full of heart.
For guaranteed laughs and to get a bit of that invaluable Bridget perspective on life this is definitely a must-see for all her fans!

Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason - Just another stupid film with Hugh Grant acting himself again.
