Just want to thank again and again the whole romanian team, who work for ALITALIA in Bucharest Otopeni Airport. Even our situation ( me and 10 my minor students) seemed to be impossible and we had to cancel our flight, this team got the great solution for us and allowed us not to break our holidays trip to London, but also gave us a perfect option and helped as much as they could. Thanks so much from me and all my students for your help, professional skills and personal very positive attitude to all of us!! Thanks ALITALIA!

We flew into Miami to connect with an Alitalia flight to Rome the Monday after Thanksgiving. Even though we had over 90 minutes to transfer, the lines were horrible. We got to the Alitalia ticket counter with about an hour to spare. The staff was great! They personaly escorted us through the priority Security line and on to the flight, which was being boarded. We would not have made it without their help.

After reading the terrible reviews and because we were connecting at Milan decided to only take cabin baggage. But we had a really good flight. Flew from London City to Milan - helpful staff, good leg room the best in all the cheaper airlines. Ok no food but a drink and a packet of crispy things (free) but still more than Ryan Air and Easy Jet and 2 hours is not that long. We changed in Milan for a flight to Bari, bigger plane but still excellent leg room. All repeated on our return can not fault them, staff were friendly nobody weighed our hand luggage, could have taken several handbags, laptops etc all a no no on the other economy flights with staff measuring your bags and trying to fit them into the gauges like we have experienced. Would definitely use them again

My experience with Alitalia's customer service was excellent each and every time.. so all you people complaining here about how rude they were, maybe your attitude stunk. They were very kind , courteous and professional to me, and i've spoken to them several times.

New Ailitalia is totally different from the old one.
Great Flight experience and new and clean airplane.
Maybe Services in Fiumicino Airport can be improved but in Venice are at the best level.
Definitly i reccomand everybody to choose them.

Scared about flying Alitalia after reading all the reviews but have to say my experience is very positive. Left on time, arrived 10 minutes earlier than scheduled at Milan Linate.
Crew are friendly, complimentary snack and drinks, comfortable seat with more than enough legroom.
I booked with Alitalia due to excellent price offer, cheaper than any other non-budget airline and very satisfied. Will definitely fly again with them

I think Alitalia is great!
I just returned yesterday on Alitalia from Florence to Boston. I was nervous due to all the negative comments by this forum (and others), but it was the most convienent for me and their safety record was good, so I figured how bad can it be? It was my first experience with Alitalia.
I was struck by the professionalism, the friendliness, the food, the wine, the cabin, and the fact that we took off exactly on time and landed exactly on time (thank god, because FCO is a friggen nightmare and I almost missed my connection due to a total of TWO people in immigration for 500 people in a line) . I flew business class in an AirOne 332. Yes, I know that business class might be different in some ways, but we take off and leave at the same time and our luggage has just as much of a possibility of being lost. I walked through coach when I took a walk and all seemed well and the flight attendants as friendly as in business class. The seats in business were leather, they were 170 degree slanted flat beds. Included great fluffy pillows and soft duvets. Entertainment unit was fine but not to the standards of other transatlantics. Coach had overhead units.
The food in business class was the best I have had on an international flight in over 10 years. First and second courses were served"tableside" and you had choices--and could have as much or as little as you wanted. The wine selections were amazing and flowed throughout the flight, including sparkling and dessert wines. Hot towels were distributed at the beginning of meals.
The flight to and from FCO were on different airplanes and with completely different crews. I notice no difference in the professionalism and efficiency.
So, although some messages in various forums had me nervous, I can only say that Alitalia was as good or better than any flight I have taken Europe, Africa or Asia in the last 10 years--and I fly a lot. Their new 332's are suppose to be even better with 180 degree flat beds in business class and individual entertainment unitis thoughout coach.
My luggage arrived quickly on both ends.
I can't speak for every flight, but for me, I wouldn't hesitate to fly Alitalia again. I actually look forward to it. They business class fares are terrific.
Note: I have NOTHING to do with Alitalia and no reason to say they are good other than to balance out the negatives that seem to abound. I kept thinking during my flight "what am I missing? These flight attendents are great, the captain is talking with us, I'm drinking great wine, the food is amazing, my luggage arrived immediately, the airplane is ontime. What's not to love? : )

After reading all the negative reviews I almost did not use. However, because the price was right and the connection good, I took the chance. The flight to Rome was a few minutes early and the flight from Rome to Chicago was 9 minutes late. Pretty good I think. The plane, Boeing 767 is a little dated and probably should be replaced. My luggage was handled without incident. The food was good and complementary wine and beer were served.
Service was decent and the staff was quite friendly. Coming back the flight attendant took it upon himself to give me a seat with better leg room.
The price for two round trip was $2224. Seat assignment I picked was what I got, other than the relocation at staff suggestion on way back.
One difference with Alitalia these days, I think , is that they are now a private corporation. No more government monopoly. In any event my experience was good.

We flew Alitalia to Rome from Los Angeles. The plane was a clean 777. A pillow and blanket was waiting in our seats when we boarded. The entertainment system has lots of other options beyond just music and movies. I watched 3 movies Clash of the Titans, Avatar and Lord of the Rings (fell asleep during that one). There are probably at least a couple dozen to choose from. So not using my MP3 player on the flight was a plus. The food was decent and the soft drinks and water was available during the flight. I went to the back during my walks around the plane to get more. The food was decent there was a beef and a chicken dish. The only complaint was that the leg room is a bit on the uncomfortable side. The second leg of my trip on a 737 had better leg room. Overall the customer service was very good. No problems checking in or with my baggage. I was a little apprehensive about the amount of weight for carry on pieces but they don't even weigh that. I was a little over the limit when I weighed my bag at work but it was fine. I highly recommend this flight from LAX to Rome, take the earliest flight if you can to avoid crowds.

No complaints. They were on time, friendly, the food was great, and take off- flight- and landing were smooth. I read all the bad reviews and was concerned but was pleasantly surprised. Our flight was direct (8 Hours) so there was less chance of a baggage problem and I bough ear plugs, eye mask, and neck pillow- and after the meal was served- I slept most of the flight, even with the school groups that were on the plain. If you have any dietary restrictions, call ahead of time and they will accommodate you. I think there was only 6 Flight attendants for 200+ people, so don't expect restaurant like service. Also Rome was awesome!!!!

I flew with Alitalia from Manchester to Milan and vice versa on 20th March 2006 and 23rd March 2006, and I can not fault them at all.
The airline staff, both in-flight and on the ground were very courteous and helpful, and I was even upgraded to business class free of charge both ways (join their frequent flyer club. It is free, and you will be treated like royalty).
I don't like flying, and I was worried about the negative press that they recieve, but I had a very good experience with Alitalia, and I will most definitely fly with them again.

The past tense of stink is actually stank, not stunk. And Alitalia is really pretty bad
