Smallville Is A Very Interesting Idea - What Was C
Smallville is a very interesting idea - what was Clark Kent like as a teenager and how did he turn into the squeaky clean comic book hero we know and love? In practice it's like Buffy, Dawson's Creek and the X-Files rolled into one big, cheesy, sci-fi fest for 12 year old girls.
We have all the elements, the teen idol-esque Clark (wasn't he meant to be a geek?), his gang of friends including the girl who fancies him, the girl he fancies, his best buddy, and the budding baddy, Lex, who's actually sort of a goodie. Lex is, in fact, the ONLY interesting character in the show as he's well-rounded, highly complex and you want to know how he goes so horribly bad in the end. The rest of them, they really are the Dawson's Creek-X-Files-crime-investigating squad.
Apparently the meteor shower in which Clark landed has caused loads of people to mutate into having weird superpowers and being evil and Clark is the only one who can stop them. And yet, nobody figures out his secret who has any degree of intelligence - including his friends who he saves in every single episode.
On the whole, if you're hungover on a Sunday afternoon, this is a mildly entertaining distraction. Otherwise, give it a wide berth. I'd recommend instead that you watch Buffy which does weirdness and teen angst well and has a more interesting cast of characters and better writers.
