“Awful service when help is required. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by April123456 on 12/09/2023

Absolutely awful service from USA Alamo. Returned from a trip renting a car from these clowns. To get double charged on tolls. We'd paid cash and they charged our card too. Sarcastic replies and no refund. Just awful. Sure they run fine and get ok reviews if no help is needed Try having an issue and getting it resolved- good luck.

“Paid twice total insurance cover - no refund”

★☆☆☆☆

written by NLagartixo on 09/02/2022

I rented a car with total cover insurance and when I arrived in the airport the rental company said to me that the total cover was not valid for them so I needed to pay it twice. Since I was traveling for almost two days I didn't want problems so I thought to solve it later. None of 2 companies made a refund. discovercars or Alamo.

“Terrible customer service”

★☆☆☆☆

written by BeauRivera on 18/08/2021

Very disappointing indeed We are experienced travellers and often use companied such as Almo when renting vehicles abroad. We are perfectly accustomed to not receiving the vehicle listed on the web site so that is not a problem. What is a problem is being offered only an automatic transmission when we have requested a manual. We are from the UK, where very few vehicles have automatic transmissions and when we specifically ask for a manual we expect to receive one. The model, make, engine size and everything else is adaptable, the transmission absolutely not so! On this occasion, my wife was extremely upset at the offer of an automatic transmission. She protested at the time but was offered no alternatives. It was a ‘take it or leave it’ situation. It was a Sunday and we had plans so she felt compelled to accept. It took her a full week of our 2-week holiday to get accustomed to it. In the meantime, we altered our plans as we had long haul drives planned which we were compelled to change as my wife was feeling ill-accustomed to the car – especially its lack of responsiveness (manual drivers will know what we mean by this). We also spent a great deal more on petrol that we would have – had we been provided with a manual vehicle as requested. Upon complaining to Alamo, we were phoned by a representative who offered a 50% reduction on the basis of our account that it took a full week of our 2-week holiday to grow accustomed to the car. Although this did not account for the additional petrol costs, we accepted. Around 15 minutes later he phoned back to say that he had spoken to his manager and the offer was now a non-negotiable 15% which, frankly, is derisory. Since then we have tried and tried (in vain) to get a response, any response, from Alamo customer services. They tend to send pleasant sounding emails initially promising their attention, before then failing to communicate with us. On one occasion we were promised a call from the management at Limoges airport to agree a resolution. That call was never received. Very poor service. A company without a customer service spirit or inclination. My advice would be to avoid them.

Thank you for your response. The last time we were contact by someone from your team, they simply referred us back to Limoges management team who repeated the same mantra that we had complained about in the first place. If you are contacting me to escalate this complaint such that it can be dealt with, I'd be happy to spend some time supporting the resolution, but if you are intending simply to put me in touch with Limoges management team , then please, let's not waste you time and mine as they will simply repeat what they said originally and we will be no further on.

“Will NEVER use again”

★☆☆☆☆

written by 214Lewis on 02/01/2021

We were given a damaged car, but told this damage was too small to be registered. Upon returning the car, the young manager there told us this was fine, we would not be charged for the damage, and refunded our deposit. One month later a huge bill for nearly £900 arrived. Our queries were stonewalled, and we were treated appallingly. More customers need to make official complaints to stop this from happening again and again. I am still reeling from this experience, and will not give up until this matter is resolved satisfactorily.

“Automated pick up is dreadful”

★★☆☆☆

written by carolyn2st on 22/10/2019

The Alamo car rental pick up at LAX was machine only. I was given the impression that I had opted to pay for a full tank of gas for which I thought I was being charged $39 - I had a receipt to say that this would be taken off my credit card. But no money was taken off until return when they took over $55 despite there being gas left in the tank. This is deceptive and can only be accomplished with a machine operated system when you cant ask questions. The operative who was supposed to be helping us to use the machines was hostile and impatient and at one point actually put in information for me that was knowingly inaccurate saying that 'they dont care' and I just needed 'to hurry up'. When we selected the cars, we were told to ‘pick any car’ no one checked the vehicle nor told us anything about how to operate the car – I couldn’t even start it without help from another customer. When we returned the car, they trust the tiny-print receipt in my hand and ordered me move away and get into the queue for the shuttle - refused to give me time to read the receipt let alone answer any queries. I would advise everyone to avoid them. There is NO customer service. The staff seem trained to AVOID helping you to understand and are presumably paid to move everything as quickly as possible regardless. You have no comeback if you dont understand what youre being asked to do.

“Poor quality alternitive”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Disgruntled8010 on 23/09/2019

Ordered a ford galaxy (or similar) we got a vw caddy, staff were completely unhelpful, they assured us that the caddy based on a van was the same class as a galaxy, when I tried to explain to the manager how the vehicles were completely different, he would only say "well you can leave the car here you don't have to take it" ? I can only say that this is an appealing attitude to take, I would not use them again and I would not recommend them to anyone. If I wanted to hire a van with seats that's what I would have ordered.

“Great customer service in person”

★★★☆☆

written by Millsnr325 on 23/09/2019

Customer service great when we collected car (Enterprise). We were dropping car off at York Railway station. We used the coordinates on the webpage in Google Maps & ended up in the Railway Museum Carpark, so rang customer service & given the postcode as a reference & found the right place. I received an email from Enterprise traffic violations dept & my credit card was charged £35 for the privilege. An absolute rort! The parking fine they forwarded had passed the 14 day discount period where the penalty is halved. I sent an appeal to the council involved & they reinstated the 14 day discount payment, fortunately. There are no email facility for this traffic violation dept & it takes a long time to finally talk to a person provided you don’t get cut off when waiting. I definitely do not recommend dropping your car off at York Railway Station - there is minimal parking onsite & it is chaotic with cars dropping off passengers, Ubers etc, even with a few dedicated car parks for rental companies up the far end. We were late handing back the keys, but the staff were great.

“Babies at risk”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Boy1234 on 15/07/2019

My son in law hire a car on the 3/7/19 we picked it up in bologna airport . My daughter had a 7 weeks old baby and 2 year old .before drove off we told the man that it had a flat tyre . He said its low pressure . We wasnt happy and said we want another car . He said go to service station and pump it up . We drove for miles didnt find one . But we was at our villa . So my son in law called this company Alamo and said we cant change it . Change to the spare tyre . We couldn't use the car through our holiday . We returned the car on the 10th July 19 and we said we was told we get a refund . To be honest I was so scared in that car and for my grandchildren. When we returned to the UK. My son in law was told he is being charged for the puncture of 180 pound and if he dont pay in 48 hours bailiff at his door... disgusting how they put my daughter myself and 2 babies at risk driving the scary roads and tunnels to Tuscany with a flat tyre knowing we wouldn't leave then got told to get air in the tyre ... I would never recommend this company and they are lucky my family and myself were not killed through there crappy cars

“Quick, friendly, professional ”

★★★★★

written by Ukeila on 29/06/2019

I hired a car from Alamo car rental company on 22/06/2019 based in Birmingham Airport. I can honestly say that I had the best customer service experience I have ever had , when it comes to hiring a vehicle. I was travelling with my son who is 4 years old and as you can imagine, gets bored very quickly. Whilst I was being served by ‘Ramone’ , the staff team was keeping my little one entertained. Ramone then went out the way to show me around the new vehicle. My service was quick, friendly and professional. It was so good that I hired them again for a further 4 days , when I came back in Birmingham this week to enjoy a family trip.!! Book will Alamo , you won’t regret it !

“After Sales Care”

I've recently come back from America.I rented car which I had no problem with.It was after I handed the car back I realised I had left my driving glasses in the car but I had gone on to Miami.I called them to ask if they could forward them on.They said the car had gone out for 3 days but they would fast track them to me.They never arrived and I tried contacting them several times after to no avail. My hotel that I was staying in even tried contacting them and they had exactly the same problem. Hence I had to come home with no glasses and I now have to buy a new pair which is completely unnecessary . They ask you to leave a message too but never return the call. The same happened when my hotel called them.

They told me that they cant cancel the reservation and that i have to do it in Alamo.com. I called a lot of numbers and nobody can help me to get my refund or to tell me exactly how to get it. They all tell me that they cant do the cancelation and refund because is made true a partner and they cand give me more information.

I rented a Ford Expedition in Orlando for 2 weeks. The vehicle was like brand new and served its purpose greatly with 3 young kids and 4 adults and loads of suitcase space. I had a small problem with something and upon return of the vehicle i got speaking to the customer services manager and it got dealt with straight away and because of this i will definitely recommend Alamo to friends and family.

“Do not rent with Alamo!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ericrulz13 on 07/05/2019

We Booked a car through Alamo but when picking up the car we realized that our reservation was with LocAuto (a sister company of Alamo). Up until this point all of our emails and confirmations had Alamo in them. If we would have known our booking was going to be with LocAuto, we would have canceled. Why? Because look at LocAuto's yelp reviews. One Star... We were taken in by them saying we cause damage that was already there when we picked the car up. It took several attempt of contacting LocAuto, to finally get a response to any of our questions. But all this was do through a Do-not reply email address. In the mean time of not answering our emails, they were attempting to charge out credit card. We tried reaching out to Alamo because that's originally who we booked the car through, but they just referred us over to LoAuto and offered no help.

“worst car hire experience ever”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MichaelSheldon on 30/04/2019

I returned the car to Alamo at Geneva airport late April 2019. The operative pointed out a dirty scuff mark on the car, which was indeed there. I was astonished to be charged CHF1000 for this "damage". I returned to the car ten minutes after returning it, and the dirty scuffmark had already been buffed out, so that it could no longer be seen with the naked eye. I asked for a refund, on the grounds that, given the mark was not visible to the naked eye, any actual damage would not pass a de minimis test, but the refund was aggressively refused. The operative accused me of being dishonest. I asked whether that was what she really meant to have said or implied, and she confirmed it. The operative was not wearing a name badge, and refused to give me her name, which I required in order to file a complaint with Alamo. I sought redress, but have been fobbed off. I recommend using any hire company other than Alamo, who get a big fat zero from me.

The deposit is particularly expensive, it was 1200£ when I rented a small car. A mini 500. Also it is not a deposit as such, they really get the money from your bank account. It means tht you will lose the change rate if you don't pay in the same currency. Also you bank will probably charge you fees for that transaction. You should ask for an hold only deposit, but Alamo does a payment deposit. They did not told us and it has created many problem with the bank. Alamo never refund the bank fees despite they promised to do so.

Yes they would provide another car, your excess would cover this. I recommend buying an excess policy on line in this country before you go they are 80% cheaper than the ones the hire car company give you. Also be aware most cars hired in America are automatic so they are easier to drive. Go to the moneysaving expert website run by Martin Lewis - to look for car hire excess policy info -you can do this even when you land if you haven't got time before you fly, but you could do it in the airport whilst you're waiting in the lounge.

I think you will find that the USA only does automatic transmissions. These are very easy to use though, certainly not as difficult as manual.

Get in touch with your Car Hire supplier and tell them that you require a Sat Nav and they can accommodate you, at a charge
Report this content DaveWBrown Written on: 29/04/2016
Hi, we traveled to Los Angeles at the beginning of the year and looked at Satnav charges - unfortunately I cannot remember finding what they charge but I do remember that we looked at the cost of upgrading our old satnav to USA maps and the cost was ridiculous. It was not easy to find the cost on their site (apart from taking their high value with GPS option) but we found a review on the ReveiwCentre that said at the end of 2011 "Alamo charge something atrocious like $12.99 a day for satnav hire". Since we were there for 21 days we found that we could BUY a new satnav with US maps for far less - so that's what we did. Unless it is obvious and we've both missed it I think the best advice (as Sheilah1092's answer) is to ask them - IF they'll come clean.

Be very careful. The deposit is a PAYMENT deposit and they don't tell it to you. They call it deposit when it is just a standard payment that they refund after. So this money could make you lose the currency change rate conversion if applicable. If there is any scratch bigger than 10cm on the car you would probably lose the full deposit. Also, don't trust their aftersales service because they don't do what theyr promise to do as it happenned to me. If I have to book again, I would go to company like Hertz and budget. They might be a bit more expensive depending on the rent, but they are not as stressfull as Alamo Enterprise Rent A Car.
Report this content shellfromthedrain Written on: 01/04/2016
Also they may try to get you to upgrade the insurance to cover a lot more - The standard insurance is really basic and sometimes doesn't have cover for windscreens etc and the excess is usually high You can buy a policy on line for hire car excess insurance that's about £2 per day (the hire car company one will be Upward of £18) Look on moneysavingexpert if you're in the Uk it explains it better than I can on here
Report this content shellfromthedrain Written on: 01/04/2016
Make sure that you have the credit available on your card too - some companies can ask for more than. $1000 it will depend upon your age etc They just take a swipe like they would on setting up a bar tab usually What I've said about the excess insurance applies to every hire car company that I know of Alamo are one of the biggest rental companies in America they are very good on past experience I also use the excess insurance policy of I'm using a loan car when my car is being serviced

There are no hidden Extras. Everything it is very transparent. You have to remember that there are a lot to consider when you are hiring a car from any agency. 1. Will you take the car with a full tank and return it empty? It works out cheaper this way versus hiring it with a full tank and return it with full tank. 2. Will you want to pay for a full comprehensive insurance? This is expensive but if you do not, any damage to the windscreen for example, it will be very expensive as you will have to pay for its replacement. Also if you do not have full insurance coverage and have an accident you will be liable to pay for the repairs. Finally being under 25 the premium will be very high for rending a car from any agency. The price you are quoted, is the price you pay as long as you return the car the way you have received it. I hope that I have answered your question and give you a few helpful hinds.

They might block you if you don't have the paperwork they want. It happened to me and they just told me to go to Budget. You online confirmation is not a real confirmation. They can tell you that you miss some paper or whatever reason. It happenned to me in London Heathrow Airport.

you need to go to the Desk with your paperwork. There are machines in the desk area that you can do the necessary on, if you do not want to wait in the queue.

As long as you take your original booking confirmation, your online check in confirmation, driving licence and if you are a UK citizen(just in case) your DVLA code(replaces the old counterpart) you can go straight to the garage, select your car and drive to the exit where the representative will check you out. You will also need your credit card.

You do need to go to the desk with your paperwork BUT be very very careful what you sign especily if they offer you an upgrade, as we were riped off to the tune of over $800.Yes $ 800.00. Read this- At the desk we were greeted by a very pleasant young lady who checked our documents and confirmed we were to pick up a Ford Focus, that’s right we said. She then asked where we were going, we told her we would be travelling around and would be dropping the car off in Los Angeles. Oh she said, I will give you a better car a Rav4, is that OK? Fine we said, she then pushed a form to us and quickly said sign here here and here I quickly signed and she then told us where to find the car. At no point did she mention it was an upgrade, at no point did she point out that there would be an extra charge, nor did she run through the extra costs. When we droped the car off the attendant said great all OK all paid up off you go. A couple of weeks later we found alamo had taken $858.66 from our bank for the upgrade we had not asked for. I would certainly have questioned the price as we had definitely not budgeted for another $858.66 dollars. We travel to America many times and are often upgraded automatically at no charge. This is the first time we have been charged extra and without our knowledge, then to arrive home and find Alamo had taken an extra $858.66 from our Bank account, is very much Sharp Practice. Do not trust them check everything.

This should be no problem. Usually car hire companies in Orlando have no issues up to age 70. After that they may charge extra for their hire. Once you have your reservation number you can actually check in online a few days before you arrive in Orlando, meaning you can go straight to the garage and select your own car. Just make sure you have your reservation, online check in confirmation, driving licence and credit card to present to the agent at the exit barrier. Very smooth operation.

In my experience nothing is initially nothing is debited until you return the vehicle and checks are made. If you pay for your petrol then the charge is made to your account on return otherwise, no damage = no charge!

Yes that would be the total amount which I believe is taken after you return the vehicle undamaged. We were offered to pay $40 extra so that we could bring the petrol tank empty if we wanted. Recommend checking in all your details online before you travel as well saved a heap of time and was so easy when arriving the other end.

As I usually rent from Alamo in USA and I am now almost 75, t his is going to be an interest for me next year, but I haven't yet checked, so cannot say for sure. Can tell you that it may differ from country to country (because Alamo uses different "partners" outside the USA and one or two local agencies even in USA (not, I think, in Las Vegas though) - it also differs from company to company e.g. Avis often requires medical certificate in support if you are over 75. Advice is : to find out phone Alamo UK or try going via alamo.co.uk or even alamo.com (although with the latter you cannot actually execute a rental if you are a British citizen).

Other answers are correct as far as I know, although last year the state of Florida announced its intention to make an IDP mandatory, then I believe there was such an outcry that the proposed regulation was abandoned! You do, however, officially need the counterpart although I have never been asked for it by Alamo in the USA - but then I wasn't asked for it either by the Wyoming highway patrol who flagged me down for driving 8 miles per hour over the speed limit on a dual road with no traffic on it, though he fined me about $70 on the spot.......! Take care.

Depends where the rental is booked. As another member has said, Alamo in UK uses Enterprise cars at several locations in UK, Ireland and elsewhere in Europe; a hold may be placed on card even for a Pay on Arrival booking, but the terms and conditions should always tell you if there is a no-show or cancellation after the stated deadline. On the other hand, Alamo branded rental locations do not usually apply these measures, certainly not in USA for example.

Couldn't say! If you haven't done this already, check by trying rental at alamo.co.uk, using pickup station you want (SFO or downtown?) - this will show which models they normally expect to have there but you can only choose by grade (size), you cannot specify model in advance booking if there is more than one model in the grade. Otherwise, you can of course ask to have the one you want at the rental pickup counter; if it is at SFO (the airport) though, the counter person will give you the contract wallet with the size/grade marked on it, you take the wallet to the desk person in the parking garage and he/she will indicate the car(s) you have to choose from - the keys are in the cars and you just choose the one you want.

However, if you are renting in USA, CA is the only state in which you get this included unless you use Alamo Gold, whic I do find to be worth its extra charges.

They did try the "you needed to book on line..." at which I pulled out the reservations and said DUH! Adjustments must be made before you drive off! Again look at your final paperwork. Use a reputable credit card company, knowing that with the facts in front of them they will question and refund the charges if they suddenly appear. For the life of me I do not know why these major merchants keep trying it on? It could be that the adjustment will appears when you proceed thru checkout also. Good Luck

Yes, but unless the rules have changed, you will have to pay a drop-off charge as extra if you drop outside California. Can't remember how much but you can find out by starting the booking via Alamo.co.uk - just put in pickup as SFO and dropoff at LAS and the rental calculation will include the interstate charge if payable.

We are travelling to Orlando and have hired a basic Chevrolet Spark or similar as we thought originally that there were only two people in our party. There will now be four people and four suitcases. Would it be possible to upgrade the car and insurance when we arrive at the airport?

YES, YOU CAN UP-GRADE @ THE COUNTER. IF YOU CAN, DO IT ON-LINE BY AMENDING YOUR BOOKING. THERE YOU WILL HAVE THE TOTAL ADDITIONAL COSTS FOR YOUR UPGRADE. IF YOU AGREE YOU JUST CONFIRM IT & THEN PRINT OFF YOUR NEW COPY. WHEN YOU GET TO THE RENTAL COUNTER ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SIGN THE RENTAL AGREEMENT. NO DECISION MAKING @ THE COUNTER @ YOU KNOW THE PRECISE COST BEFORE LEAVING FOR YOUR JOURNEY. LLOVEFLORIDA IS SPOT ON WITH THE COMMENT THAT IT IS CHEAPER ON-LINE.

Only if you booked via Alamo direct or their local franchisee - then you should proceed as stated by Catterpillar789. If you booked a prepaid rental via a thrid party agency, you'd have to get in touch with that agency before travel.

When I last rented an Alamo car from Orlando I did it online and was given the option to pay upfront (which was less than the counter price) or simply to make the reservation. There was no deposit involved. They do take imprint of your credit card at the counter though, in case you damage the car.

We have booked an Alamo car in Tampa airport. I am concerned that we may have to get on a shuttle bus to collect. Please let me know? When I phoned the lady was not sure, and being pensioners this is very important to us.

Just Go to Alamo, start a rental transaction at Tampa (which of course you don't have to finish - just cancel or exit before confirming) and you will be able to find the location of the rental station along with its opening hours(almost certainly 24hrs) and you will see whether it is on-airport or off-airport. Wife and I are pensioners too! Have used Alamo airport shuttles many times, though not at Tampa, they are reliable and handling baggage is no more difficult than having to load it into the rental car anyway.

Yes.....into Canada OK, although you do have to return the car in USA. Note that whilst Canada is OK, Mexico definitely is not". Also, if you are not a US citizen, remember that the ESTA programme does not apply to entry over a land border, so on re-entry you will have to pay the US Border fee ($11 when I did it but that was in 2012) and this must be paid in US dollars, cash only. Also, they will ask re prohibited goods and will probably inspect the trunk. Check US CBP for prohibitions as they may include e.g. fruit, milk, etc.

Alamo's rental desk is located in the terminal @ Orlando Airport & the car's are also collected @ the airport. No shuttle bus required. For the best route from the airport to your destination go on-line to a site such as MAPQUEST,enter your start & end points, then print it off to take with you.

I am sure you will need your children's seat which you use in your car at home in uk especially for the three youngest . You will be able to take them with you on your flight with Virgin they are very good. In the USA they do not have astringent laws about the children's car seats as we do here and it is quite expensive to hire with car rental. Not 100% re the older children a lot depends on their height too. Be aware you can buy car seats in Walmart quite I expensively. Enjoy your holiday!!!

Report this content raggedpointinn Written on: 21/07/2014
Normally, there is no dropoff charge between cities within California. I do as you do, generally in the other direction, a good many times in 25+ years with Alamo and have never had to pay a dropoff fee. Incidentally if you want to have an extra driver there is normally no charge for that either in CA, but this may be only if you use Alamo Gold.

Alamo will accept a UK licence at all USA rental stations as far as I know, but I can't confirm that a French licence would be acceptable - I'm not familiar with them but unless they contain an English language translation I would think it doubtful. Suggestions: try calling Alamo licensee in France - they may know from experience; OR, be safe by getting IDP for all drivers.

Alamo will not usually guarantee a specific model for your rental, only t hat (in your case) it fits their definition of S4 for that location. You haven't mentioned the rental pickup location in your question, but you may be able to find out by doing as follows: Go to Alamo and "pretend" you are going to rent the car direct from alamo (or their licensee) at the actual pickup location, preferably for approx. your actual dates. Specify you want an S4 car. You should then be able to see a picture representation of the number/size of bags (suitcases) which Alamo consider can be fitted into the trunk/boot. You MAY, or may not, also be offered more than one type of S4 and/or be able to see what the actual car model is or are at that location. Obviously, duck out of the transaction before you actually commit to the rental!

If you haven't already, first check with Virgin to confirm which local charges are excluded from your holiday booking. Then, visit Alamo website. Start to make a booking at Orlando airport which is identical to the booking provided by Virgin, i.e. same dates and same car group. If you follow the instructions, you should find that BEFORE confirming the booking (pay now basis, not a pay local basis) you can see a breakdown of the total rental charges including local taxes and surcharges etc., from which you should be able to identify the excluded charge amounts in US$. Obviously, you must not conclude the booking though. Also remember to include in your "spurious" booking any extras you have included in your Virgin deal or would wish to purchase locally, e.g. child seat. Remember that if you have a GPS (satnav) it will probably be workable in the US - renting locally from the rental operator is very expensive.

Have only used Lamo in the USA but booked via web site at home in UK When making my booking I paid there and then and had no problems at all when picking up car in USA No further charges have been made! The only thing to remember is that sometimes, depending on the agreement I have been charged for Petrol when returning car empty. Sometimes you can opt to pay up front for full tank then bring back empty so there is no extra charge Have always been more than happy using Alamo when in USA

I agree with DragonLady. Everything is usually paid upfront and you shouldn't have to pay a penny at the desk. Most hire companies now seem to try and sell you enhanced breakdown cover as the base cover is just mechanical(not for punctures etc.)and watch out for them using a partner in some locations who may try and sell you additional CDW.

In most countries other than USA, Alamo brand rentals are handled by a local licensee (in USA this may still be the case at some locations only). Probably Spain, like the UK, has a country-national licensee and in my experience these are only marginally more likely to try to upsell and make extra charges than Alamo corporate locations. Note that it may depend on which country website you use to book - alamo.co.uk is operated by the UK licensee, not by Alamo. Again, it has been my experience that Alamo in most cases does offer a choice between "pay now" and "pay local". Pay local may often be more expensive but depends on exchange rate at the time, but may be a better bet if your flight arrangements are not deifinitely assured or if you are otherwise in doubt that you will collect car on time - even though prepay vouchers can usually be refunded in some circumstances there will always be a financial penalty.

First thing: Check with Alamo that they are not subcontracting to Europcar which they do at a number of airports. If they are then AVOID,AVOID,AVOID as Europcar will try every trick in the book and when it goes pear shaped, Alamo's and Europcar's customer services are poor. Check their reviews if you don't believe me. Personally, I would never book with Alamo again. I believe that Alamo's reputation in the States is somewhat higher than it is in Europe, possibly because of its association with Europcar over here.

The card part of your licence is THE LICENCE and therefore the most important part. Although I always take the paper section for presentation at the car rental desk, as required by most rental companies, I have never been asked to produce it. If you haven't done so already, you should apply for a replacement licence immediately as driving without one is illegal in the UK and abroad. BC. UK

My advice is to contact them and ask that very question. You will be well advised to get their answer in writing and the name of the person supplying you with the answer. I would beware of trying to hire a car from Alamo without having all the t's crossed and the i's dotted. I found them to be very slippery and totally unconcerned with the inconveniences and hardships caused by their "jobs worth" attitude. My best advice would be to go elsewhere. Sorry Alamo, but after the way you treated me even Davey Crockett couldn't help!
Report this content Dargonlady1972 Written on: 11/06/2014
No problem at all as the paper type is the full license. Alamo will accept the paper with no questions asked Just as a side!!! When driving in car in Florida you must always have a means of ID just in case you are stopped therefore you will always need to carry your passport which has your photo I'd. The plastic licence covers this so maybe a good idea to get a replacement if you will be visiting Florida again in the future,as it's a pain carrying you passport all the time Enjoy your visit!!!
