“250% price increase for same vehicle”

Used Alamo many times over the years. Mostly very happy with the service. Today I queried why renting the same vehicle 7 months later was 250% more expensive for nearly a days less rental than last time; £560 for 36 hours vs £210 for 48 hours. A group of 8 of us collected 3 cars, all of the cars were low milage new cars, two cars upgraded, and I had a choice of any colour Mustang convertible I wanted. Pre paid and and car confirmation after getting to desk and filling out all the additional paper work we were told we requested was unavailable and the same class had been substituted. We were actually given a much small car. After when we got home I repriced and had I booked that car initially I would have saved over $100. We bought toll pass as was told it was cheaper but infact with the 25% tax added in we could have saved a lot of money by paying cash or card at the toll. Generally not very… Read Full Review

We booked a suv through our travel agents, and when landed in Orlando airport we made our to exit, I went to Alamo terminal and after getting forced with extra insurance, breakdown cover, etc etc, from the receptionist, I explained to her that I had all taken care off. We arrived with four large suitcases. The rep immediately gave us a free upgrade into a new, larger car He pleasantly explained all the details of our contract. The only hiccup was returning there car to Hyde Park as there were no details written on the contract. Have had two very good experiences of hiring cars from Alamo this year. Firstly out of Denver Airport in May this year. Manager was really helpful in explaining how things worked on a car we were not familiar with, and at the end of the hire period resolving a slight misunderstanding over the price bracket the car had been hired at, but initially with the wrong price. I have rented a vehicle from Miami Int. Airport on October 13, which I had reserved online for one day, estimated total $ 62.69) since I was to board a cruise the next day. “booking lost at check in, no reply to email re a fault...”

We handed over our printed document at the desk, the attendant couldn't find the booking, luckily I had my Ipad and got the email to show him, still couldn't find the booking. Another attendant tried to help and told me that we had booked wrongly and should have collected the car in February not August, I then had to explain the booking document further and showed that the car was booked and paid for in full on 23rd Feb to be collected on 24th August. Planned pick up at 12.00, arrived early 10.30, queue was out the door on the street! Wasn't any shorter by the time we eventually seen at 12.30. The counter assistant was at best very unhelpful, no apology, no greeting no eye contact, mumbled all the way through the process. The office manager did the walk of shame through the queue to go and buy his lunch without saying a word to anyone to explain the reason for delay. We hired from Boston and was sold a Toll pass device $19:75 saying it saves us time and pays tolls. NO IT DOESN'T. It notifies Alamo who to charge Tolls to. There is a $3:95 convenience per day fee too. So buyer be aware your credit card will be charged at a later date and you need to log on to find out details of what charges are for which journey. So, after reading a number of negative reviews and knowing what to look out for we went with Alamo to hire a car at Figari airport Corsica. Prior to taking it we did an extremely thorough investigation of the car, taking photos of everything we saw. We then took the photos and our car damage inspection checklist back to the counter to ensure we wouldn't get charged for these later on. I found a price on Kayak for a 23 day rental in Florida for £454. Although this was more than other companies, I do like Alamo (mainly due to their speedy Alamo Insiders check-in at pick-up time) so I selected that one. I was then diverted to the Alamo website where I could see a charge of £453.15 for "Pay now" but there also seemed to be an additional charge to pay at the counter of £140 for "Pay at counter". I am on a six month tour of the USA and have used Alamo on three occasions. I have two more rentals for a total of 73 days currently arranged with yourselves but I am thinking of cancelling them and using a different car rental provider. Hiring a car is not a difficult thing and the process is similar whoever you use. The differentiator is how good operators are when a customer has a problem and needs help. I wholeheartedly agree that Alamo does not have a customer service policy. I rented with them in June.Following a minor accident during the rental. I was left stranded in Yosemite Park overnight because the 24-hour roadside assistance does not apply after 10:pm! I'm still trying to contact 'someone' in authority to discus my additional costs in finding accommodation for the night - so far two people have made 1 appearance but nothing for the past 4 weeks. As I live in the UK I find it difficult to speak/contact anyone. Next stop may be a lawyer or member of the main Alamo Board of Directors. The one thing that is certain is that I'll never use Alamo again and would urge others to follow.

Alamo have awful customer service ! awful staff and just overall the worst attitude towards there customers. This is my third time to write a complaint with yet still no reply!!! Past experiance of collecting a hire car was up selling to customers who arrived from overseas. Telling tired travelers their luggage won't fit in the car and 101 other reasons why they should upgrade and spend more money. Now overseas customers can check in online ......go straight to the garage pick their booked sized car and show their documents at the exit point and drive out!
