“Avis Car Hire in Limassol”

★★★★★

written by AFGs on 20/01/2020

Booked a Group F car on the Avis website to pickup at Limassol office. From start to finish it was 5 star service. The vehicle was clean and undamaged. The station manager ran through all the paperwork and then gave a quick run through of the vehicle. I was even allowed to extend the rental for one day at a reasonable additional cost and had the vehicle picked up from my hotel on the last day. Well done Avis Limassol!!

Customer Service Representative Leitizia was very helpful, giving us all the information we needed in English to make informed decisions. We returned the car a week later with no surprises or hassles. Mille grazie.

“Florida car hire”

★★★★★

written by on 05/09/2016

I picked my car up at Tampa airport. I had zero excess built in with my BA package but this doesn't cover glass, mirrors, tyres or keys so I had emailed in advance & was told I could purchase it at the desk for $6.99 per day which I did. They explained that I could use the built-in sunpass toll reader thing or turn it off & do toll by plate, they both cost $4 per day once you go through your first toll but it tops out at $20 maximum for up to a month of use. The car was a group larger than I booked, it was a Ford Expedition with 32k on the clock. It was clean & in good condition. Unfortunately once it was up to 65mph it started vibrating through the whole car. Not ideal as that's pretty much the cruising speed on the freeway. I rang the Avis breakdown line & as I was now in Orlando they said it was best if I went to Orlando airport to change the car. This was done & I asked if they had a Chevrolet Tahoe which was what I had hoped for in the first place. They said yes no problem & I got a top of the range LTZ model with all the kit, rear DVD player, sat nav, air conditioned seats & much more. It had a nice 5.3 V8 engine & at around $2.20 per gallon it wasn't that expensive to run (16 - 23mpg) I did 2,000 miles in the 2 weeks & it was faultless. Returned the car & they checked it back in & did all the return paperwork on the spot & confirmed that they were happy with the full tank of fuel & that it was in the same condition as when I received it. This next bit is just for info only & I hope it helps others. They didn't ask to see a fuel receipt on return but be aware that at Tampa & Orlando airport there didn't seem to be any petrol stations on the airport & I had to go a couple of miles away to refuel, if I hadn't got sat nav then this could of been a real problem so please plan ahead. I enquired how dirty a car had to be before they charged an extra cleaning fee & she said it would need to be caked in inches of mud & that the inside would have to be inches deep in sand or full of fast food containers & she said it does happen & people do get charged. So do what I did & shake the car mats out when you do your final refueling & throw all the rubbish out of the car into the bin & avoid any additional costs. Overall a great experience & I would definitely use Avis in the US again.

“Last minute deal”

★★★★★

written by Howe82 on 05/09/2015

I booked a large estate (Passat or Imdignia) from Enterprise. When I went to college t it yesterday morning they'd messed up and put me down for a saloon. They were no large estates at the repair or elsewhere. After a few calls I walked to Avis. They provided a C4 Grand Picasso at a special rate. It cost more than a Passat at Enterrprse ax the waiver wasn't cheap, but it was still £50 off their normal price. also impressed that the deposit was simply a full tank of fuel. Far more helpful and professional than Enterrprse (at least in Leeds).

“Great customer service!”

★★★★★

written by on 04/04/2015

I am really surprised at the poor reviews. Having been ripped off in the past by some of the 'licensed bandits' who call themselves car hire firms, we always use Avis. Their call centre staff are second to none, being helpful, friendly and professional and their cars are always clean and of good quality. The service counters in different countries can vary - Spain and Switzerland very good, US excellent and Greece a bit below average with cars smelling of cigarette smoke (no different from any other car hire firm we have used there), but overall we find they are far superior to any of the others (with the possible exception of Hertz, who are also good but whose prices are generally higher). At no time have we felt pressured to take out any expensive 'extras' or had any problem collecting or returning cars. We rent aprroximately 6 to 7 times a year and we have a great deal of trust in the company.

“Great Service from Avis Atlanta Car Rental”

★★★★★

written by on 21/02/2015

We had great service when we collected our rental vehicle - even letting us try out a few different intermediate SUVs to see which one was easier for me to get into. I'm a wheelchair user so have problems when car seats are too high. On our return I needed to get to the international terminal via accessible shuttle bus and this can mean a very long wait. The operations manager immediately offered to drive us instead. At the international terminal he parked up and my partner was able to get me into the checkin desk and on my way. He then drove my partner to the domestic terminal. Anyone who knows the layout at Atlanta Airport will understand how big a deal this was. Thank you very much Avis car rental.

“Avis Basingstoke are excellent”

★★★★★

written by SarahKay on 16/12/2014

I've now rented from Avis in Basingstoke about a dozen times, and can't speak highly enough of the service I've always had. I first chose them because their pricing was reasonable and they were just round the corner from work. They moved locations a couple of years ago, but I've stayed with them because their service has always been so good. I book by phone and they're happy to add a request for a specific car, but are always honest about the fact they can't guarantee a make or model. They used to very kindly upgrade me a size or so, but when I explained I would be driving down tiny country roads they were great about making sure I got the smaller car I asked for. The staff are friendly and very helpful - once even dropping the car off for me at work earlier this year (at no extra charge) when I called to explain I was running late due to problems at work. The cars are always clean and in good condition, and usually even have the car manual in the glove-box - which my work colleagues (who have to do work rentals through a different firm) tell me is often not the case. The last three times I've had a very nice (and very nippy) Citroen DS3....I think my Mum now has car envy!

“Highly satisfactory service at Newark EWR Airport”

★★★★★

written by 143Andrews on 21/09/2014

Good, curteous, quick service. We have arrived (a family of 3) at Newark Liberty Airport Avis, on a morning early September 2014. We were returning a Ford SUV, full of luggage. We were running short of time for our flight. We were taken care of by two Avis gentlemen: Mr. J. A. and his boss, H. D. They provided good, quick and efficient service, and helped us with our luggage. We were quickly on our way to the check-in counters. Highly satisfactory.

Oh, come one, what else!
Did they pay for your holiday and deliver caviar every day for breakfast?

This smacks of an Avis employee assigned to write a glowing review in broken English.

It stands out like a sore thumb on this other wise fairly honest looking page.

Either she's and Avis employee or perhaps Italians get a better service from Italian branches of Avis.

Doesn't sound credible or honest.

“Perfect car hire experience”

★★★★★

written by Zamboonespania on 29/08/2014

We hired a car from Glasgow airport to drive to Bristol Airport over a 6 day period. Having read all the online reviews I was very worried, but it was painless. The staff in Glasgow were polite, answered all my questions, I didn't need a credit card and the only deposit paid was for fuel which was refunded. The car was upgraded at no extra cost, additional insurance was offered but not forced, and I declined this as I had already purchased it. It added to our wonderful holiday!

Girl20's Response to Zamboonespania's Review

Honestly, this sounds as if it was written by an Avis employee. It's all just 'too perfect', the writing style, the language, even the fact that the writer supposedly read the countless one-star reviews then still went ahead and hired anyway.
Very suspicious.

“excellent customer service”

★★★★★

written by speedy48 on 02/01/2014

We have ordered the car via internet reservation system (Skoda Fabia). But upon arrival the car model ordered has been replaced by Citroen Berlingo. Basically a nice car with lots of room for luggage, but with pedals too tiny for my shoe size. Therefore, after a few miles i asked for a change of car. The agent (after having listened carefully to my argument) readily offered a VW Polo and replaced the rental agreement within minutes. We were absolutely happy with the VW Polo. Needless to say that both cars were in perfect conditions and spotless clean. Perhaps AVIS is not the cheapest deal for rental cars on Lanzarote Island, but worth every Euro, because you will have peace of mind during your exploring the island. We rent our cars from AVIS since many years and never had any problems whatsoever. Yes, I would recommend AVIS strongly.

“GOOD EXPERIENCE”

★★★★★

written by IANBINYAMINA on 20/10/2013

AFTER READING ADVERSE REVIEWS PRIOR TO BOOKING I DECIDED TO CHECK REVIEWS ON OTHER CAR HIRE COMPANIES AND ALL THE CRITICISMS SEEM TO BE THE SAME FOR EACH COMPANY IE EXCESSIVE INSURANCE/FUEL CHARGES/DAMAGE SCAMS ETC. SO I DECIDED TO STICK WITH AVIS. VERY GLAD I DID - DELIVERY PROCEDURES AT ROME FUMICINO AIRPORT WERE PAINLESS AND NO PRESSURE TO BUY ''EXTRAS''. ACQUAINT YOUR SELF WITH THEIR PROCEDURES AND CHARGES. (PRE-KNOWLEDGE IS A GOOD THING) - EVERYTHING IS ON THEIR WEB SITE I.E. EXTRA SERVICES E.T.C. AND THE CHARGES FOR THEM. CAR AND IT'S CONDITION WERE VERY GOOD. REDELIVERY WAS ALSO PAINLESS AND IN FACT WHEN I TOLD AVIS THAT THE GPS THEY GAVE TO ME DID NOT WORK (AND THAT I HAD TO USE MY OWN) - THEY DID NOT CHARGE ME . ALL STAFF WERE PLEASANT AND I WOULD READILY USE THEM AGAIN. WELL DONE AVIS.

I've rented a Merc/BMW mid range from Avis for a week or so on 2 holidays in Germany in the last 2 years. Everyone was helpful and everything was clear. Quick collection at Paderborn and at Tegel, Berlin and express service on drop off in Goslar and in Bremen. Maybe it's because it's Germany where most things run properly. A tip:- if you understand a little German, book in advance on the Avis.de website. I've always got far cheaper rates that way

I have rented cars for my one month holiday in the Algarve for the last three years, with Avis, having tried many many others,I found Avis to be easy to collect and return. The excellent nearly new vehicles were a treat, and added to my holiday enjoyment. They are not either the cheapest or dearest, but you only have one holiday a year so these are the best.If you have to look around for the cheapest rental maybe you should stay at home.

“Avis - Copenhagen - all ok”

★★★★★

written by on 06/11/2012

I've rented the car for a weekend (Friday-Monday). the car was a BMW 1, 1.6d. The car came in good condition and after my inspection all the additional small scratches were noted down by the sales person. Entire procedure took less than 10 min. Taking back the car was also easy. The sales person inspected the car and had no remarks. He has showed me the final bill, which was exactly the same as when I ordered the car. No additional charges were made. I've checked my credit card recently and the correct amount has been billed. All in all I would recomend the Avis in Copenhagen City Centre for rentals.

Thanks guys for the responses looks like I won't be going with Avis. Do you recommend any that are in the airport? I've done goldcar before and the totally stung me, not only did the take more money out of my account but my car broke down one week into a two week holiday and customer service was awful, I had to call break down then go with him for a hour joinery to pick up a new car at the airport a whole day wasted.

Hi, I've heard that Europcar are good, but I haven't used them myself. The last time I was in Spain I found a local company at the airport, superb service on a six or seven year old car, 60 euros for the week. No problems with damage issues because the car wasn't perfect.

Hi yes I have booked with Avis in Barcelona Airport I have also used Alamo that were very good, I personally wasn't asked to purchase extras and was told they expect to odd scrape and bump, just make sure you check over the car and mark on the sheet things they may have missed, in my experience I have not upgraded insurance and its been fine. I took a car back to Alamo with a big deep scratch down one side after a mad man in a truck cut me up and nothing was said they just marked on the sheet and didn't charge (might have been different if i had extra insurance to cover the cost). General driving in Barcelona can be a little mad at times but is the same in London but on the other side of the road.

Firstly, I would not go near this company, AVIS will try every trick in the book to cheat and overcharge you, then abuse your credit card after you have paid. It will take you months to recover the extras they attempt to steal from customers this way. After this, their arrogance won't stop because they'll think they are doing "YOU" a favour. My advice is to find another car rental company with a good reputation, that is certainly NOT AVIS.

I haven't used Avis at Barcelona but I have for other main airports, I booked in advance and then I was also charged further on return straight out my bank account as it was a premium location!!!!! Also they said there was damage to the car which there was not and that cost another £188 straight out my account also, even although I paid for the extra insurance cover to zero the excess. I would never recommend anyone to use Avis. Customer services were only interested in having all details on an email to which they took 6 weeks to reply. AVOID IF YOU CAN.
Report this content tobester76 Written on: 19/06/2014
Use Hertz. Avis will take your money given the slightest opportunity. Last summer they billed me £1,400 for a scratch on the car that they had previously told me would cost £384 to repair. I travel overseas frequently and have been using Hertz ever since with absolutely no problems.

Hi, I haven't used Avis at Barcelona. I won't use them again. Should you decide to do so, my advice is to be very clear about what they are selling you, and to insist on an English copy of the hire contract. Hope you have a great trip. Kind regards.

All the car hiring companies have lousy reputations. I think all the locations are franchises and the franchisees are doing their own thing - good or bad. I hired from AVIS in Italy twice in different locations and did not have any problems at all.

Don't use Avis I paid the extra full insurance and they froze my credit card, the terms and conditions are from the USA and they double dip, try a local rental like Centuora
Report this content nevercomplainedbefore Written on: 23/06/2014
I would only rent fro Avis using/through British Airways site or using their exec club members rate - BA will help you out with any problems incurred as they have close working relationship with top bods at Avis. Also useful to have your own excess insurance or use the one with a Natwest Black card account.

I am currently on holiday in Crete. Picked up my rental car at Heraklion airport. Paid in full in UK and then also added in UK the insurance for any scratches etc. When I picked the car up at the desk in the airport the Avis car rep told me the fuel gauge was faulty and it was full but only reading 3/4 full. He said you return it full. when filling the tank. Yesterday we saw the gauge went to full, so obviously it was not full when we collected the car. So if we return it 3/4 will we be charged the full tank? Also the rep marked on a sketch of the car 6 areas where there were scratches on the car. How did he know where the scratches were? We were inside the terminal when he told us. It was dark when we collected the car which was parked about 400 metres away. I have read so many horror stories about Avis on this website and am very concerned about returning the car at the airport after our holiday, and about charges made on my credit card. Any advice please? I will take a photo of the petrol gauge when it is full.

Hi jojo4444, I would suggest you return the car with a full tank of fuel. It's not worth the hassle of saving 20 EUROS only for them to add charges made to your credit card for not returning with a full tank. However, you can make this known to the rep when returning your car, add comments to your receipt (it'll be a booklet), demand a refund and have both you and the rep sign it. If you have the added insurance please bear in mind that "If the rental car is damaged, this will cover the cost of repairs. You will, however, have to pay a fixed amount towards the repair costs. This is known as the excess. This applies regardless of whether you were at fault." (from Avis website). Next time you rent a car, on receiving it you and the rep should inspect the vehicle and agree on any existing damages to the car before you sign it.

You need to cover all bases with as much evidence as possible when hiring cars. When I collected a car from Avis (London Heathrow) their car sketch simply said no damage/scratches reported but when I inspected the car (to be thorough) I noticed scratches on every single panel and highlighted as many as possible on the sketch. I also wrote a comment that every panel was scratched and that their comments were completely unjustified to be sure. I asked the handover rep to confirm this and he did. So they are trying it on wherever possible. Highly unlikely that the fuel gauge is faulty, especially with a newer model but follow the advice of Soi_L with regards to this.

never trust AVIS reps abroad. I had bad experience with AVIS rep at Faro, Portugal 2012. the fuel gauge was fault too. it never goes to full until I had the fuel overflow at the filling station when I returned. They also asked me to sign a contract without telling the hidden charge even though I told them that I had full insurance against excess.

I would agree with Soi L comments but just add that when you return to the UK you contact Avis car hire head office immediately and give them copies of all your paperwork and hopefully They will sort it out. I know it a pain and especially at night when you have arrived after a long flight but I always take photos on my mobile or ipad of the car's exterior when I pick it up and drop it off, especially if the car is scratched in any way.Enjoy your holiday.

Report this content Tjoiner Written on: 06/05/2014
Hi, I have found Avis to be one of the most unpleasant organisations to deal with. I suggest that you do fill the car up before you return it. Keep a copy of the receipt, and take a photo on your camera phone of the fuel gauge. I found that Avis held a charge on my debit card for the full amount of the hire for almost a month after the hire, even though I had paid in full in the UK. Check your balances and get straight on to them if this happens to you. Be careful to obtain the English copy of your paperwork. In Portugal, paperwork is issued in English and in Portuguese, and I was given the Portuguese copies which made life difficult later. Finally, never ever use Avis again. They try harder... To cheat you
