An Old Hotel By Spanish Standards But Well Worth I
An old hotel by Spanish standards but well worth its 4 star rating. Located down a quiet road amongst some nice villas about 100 metres from the shops, restaurants and bars of Cala D'Or. It's position makes it far enough away not to be bothered by any possible noise from the town but convenient enough to make the shops etc. very accessible.
Adequately sized, pleasant, air conditioned rooms but no mini-bar in the room. Good furniture. A very good restaurant and plenty of communal space to just sit and relax. Good indoor bar, one outside on the pool terrace and another down on the beach.
Very nice pool and sun terrace area with plenty of sunbeds.
The real bonus of this hotel is its close location to the Cala D'Or beach, just down a few steps from the dining room and sun terrace. This is a lovely beach which most tourists don't seem to use because it's a little out of the way. If you use the beach a lot, as we did, then the beach bar serves soft drinks, alcohilic drinks (hic) and snacks, pizza etc all day, and good value it is too.
Note that there are hardly any children at this hotel and the hotel doesn't go out of it's way to cater for them. Personally, that's fine by me but no so good if you're looking for a family holiday.
Cala D'Or is a lively resort, has lots of good bars and restaurants and has something for everyone.
OVERALL - A superb hotel in the best location in town - you won't be dissappointed.
BACK AGAIN IN JUNE 2004
This hotel is just the same as it was last year - brilliant. This time I noticed that many of the hotel's patrons of last year were back again, including myself and my wife. Also mostly the same staff were there as well, it all looked very familiar. The hotel even noticed we had been before and left us some complimentary goodies in the room together with a note thanking us for staying with them again. Nice to be noticed!
Service and standards were just the same with no loss of quality. Apparently the hotel wasn't as busy as last year, mostly because the of the downturn in the German economy with a resultant loss of German guests. Frankly, we didn't notice and the hotel seemed reasonably full to us.
Great holiday, we'll be back there again in 2005.
