Very Poor On Wet Roads

Bought a Volvo V50 2.4 D5 which had 4 new Pirelli P6000 (unfortunately).

Size 205/50 17.

Wet grip is very poor and the tyres cannot handle the power. Even my old car with a much less powerfull engine had grip problems in the wet. Unfortunately even that one had P6000.

So in the wet I would say they are very poor under acceleration, breaking and in corners.

In the dry they are half decent. Reasonably quite, decent comfort and feel.

Tyre wear seams good.

Will definitely go back to Michelin as been very happy with them. Or try Conti's.

Sidewall Cracks

I'm a low mileage user, so although I've had the tyres for 4 years there is still 4mm of tread left. They've travelled 12000 miles from new. But at my MoT inspection today the tester pointed out cracking running all the way around the sidewalls of both P6000 tyres. Not a fail, but advised to keep a close eye on it.

I've got cheaper Firestones on the rear wheels, and they're doing fine.

Average In Dry, Lethal In Wet

Bought these in a hurry after a puncture destroyed another tyre. I drive a Honda FRV diesel people carrier. The car had Uniroyals on the front and P6000 were fitted on the rear. Dry grip is about average but wet grip is shockingly poor as I found out when the rear end broke away going round a roundabout at moderate speed. Basically, these tyres slip and slide on anything even mildly moist and are just short of lethal when road conditions are at all greasy.

Adding insult to injury, they also went out shape causing a loud whine at speed between 40-50mph. Took me a while to find this problem which is evidently common with these tyres.

I have had to bite the bullet and replace them with about 4mm of tread remaining.

I have used (and preferred) P6000's in the past, and I always thought they were very good, although they wore down quicker than, say, Michelins.

Legal tyre tread is 1.6mm across 75% of the tyre, so yes you have changed early, but at about 3mm tyres lose a heck of a lot of water displacement ability, especially on wider tyres.

Fine In The Dry, Shocking In Wet Or Bad Weather. Avoid.

I have these p6000 pirelli's fitted to my car and they are fine in the dry; reasonably grippy, hard wearing, maybe a bit too much tyre roar but overall they are OK.

However, the fun starts in anything other than bone dry conditions! These tyres have no grip at all on damp/greasy/wet/frosty or cold road surfaces, I would say they are borderline dangerous in the wet. I drive an average family car (diesel saloon), not a sports car, and it is still very easy to break traction and wheelspin when acclerating or cornering on a wet road.

Furthermore, Pirelli are known as a preimium tyre but in actual fact these P6000 tyres behave more like a bargain basement chinese remold special. 'Lesser' names (such as the 'Falkens' now fitted to my car) can provide better performance for less money. Shop around and avoid this particular tyre.

I have done 26000 miles on the front tyres and they still do not need replacing. The bulk of my driving is not on motorways.

Tecently Returned To The Pirellis Following Goodye

Tecently returned to the Pirellis following Goodyear and Dunlop on the same and very similar cars. At £65 fitted from a local garage they are little more expensive than the 'budget'tyres and significantly better than those mentioned earlier.

No confidence issues, although they do wear a little quicker than others I've used. At the right price, there is little better.

Even at 40 mph on the M25 in heavy rain the car was aquaplaning so bad I had to slow to 20mph. Now fitted Goodyear F1 and have never had a problem. Will never buy a pirelli again.they are no better than a budget tyre.

My Advice Would Be To Avoid These Tyres Like The P

My advice would be to avoid these tyres like the plague. They are absolutley rubbish in wet slushy snow. I have them on my saab and despite being a front wheel drive was unable to move the car for 3 weeks even a slight amount if ice or snow is impossible. Every one of my neighbours were able to get their cars moving. Cant wait to replace them.

Decent Tyres - Best Priced Premium Tyres. Picked

Decent tyres - best priced premium tyres. Picked these up off Blackcircles.com online - cheapest by far - and local fitter said that these tyres were good value.

They grip the road well, even when pushed. Not the best looking tyre - but when you are throwing your car into a corner you want performance not looks.

will be back for another set of these when they are due for replacement.
