Something in my XP SP3 i3 PC has been connecting with Chinese servers and exchanging traffic without my knowledge. Unable to find any malware with Hijack This and two top anti-virus/malware programs, I decided to install ZoneAlarm Free which used to be a very good program, to identify the process causing it. The installer program downloaded over 30MB of main program then after a lot of hard drive activity declared that the system needed to be rebooted. The system completely hung up part way through the reboot process, forcing me to hit the reset button when nothing else worked. On a second reboot, the same thing happened. On a second PC I learned that this kind of major problem is common with Zone Alarm now. I found the Zone Alarm discussion forums and some fool of a company representative whose only comment on any problem was that there was something seriously wrong with the victim's PC. Thankfully I'd created a Restore Point before I started this adventure, and by booting into Safe Mode I was able to go back to my restore point and reverse the damage done by this failed Zone Alarm installation. Would I recommend Zone Alarm? Sure... to someone I really didn't like.

I have been a Zone Alarm customer for about six years now.
Zone Alarm used to be first class. It is now frustrating and slows my PC's down tremendously. It has been well and truely overtaken.
Customer service is abismal.
I will not buy again.

Sad, zonealarm used to be great, this is below average, gets in the way and is not effective protection.

I have the ZA extreme security suite and I have to say I am impressed with what I have seen. I have used ZA in the past where it was a total resource hog but the 2009 version has significantly changed that. Really easy to use and a good forum site which ofers loads of help if you are stuck. I have never had any viruses when using this software which could be coincedence but I like it anyway. Yes it does ask whether to allow or deny but I like to have this control over what my PC is allowing access to the net.

Too intrusive I have found, constantly asking whether to allow or deny a program to run even when the "Always Allow" is checked. Slows the system and slow to load. Renewal cost is too high for me, $49.95 is a lot more than other much better software in my opinion.
Overall, not a bad package but I find it tedious to set up therefore I do not recommend the ZoneAlarm Security Suites.

Very good overall PC protection.
It scans everything you access, copy, etc.
It goes beyond virus protection by looking at any suspicious behaviour from programs.
It can learn, you are asked to allow or deny programs doing things. This has helped me learn a lot more about what my pc is actually doing, even when it looks like it's not doing anything.
ZA does load a bit slow at startup, but when compared to Norton it's a lot faster.
Since I've started using it, I've never looked back.

ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm Security Suites might be good for people using their computers to send email and compose words but not the best for development environment in my opinion.

Good to use and no expert knowledge necessary. It generally have firewall in all the products of it. So safety and security assured.

Only version of ZoneAlarm I ever got to run half decently was 5.5.
Latest version is awful. Uninstall doesn't uninstall properly and you have to use safe mode and even reg edit to clean up the mess.
DON'T GO THERE!

Zonelabs was basically untouchable with its 6.1 versions of ZA, but there have been some serious problems with the software since then. The security side of the program is still top notch, in operation. The most annoying thing is when ZA crashes, due to a Truevector error, and waits for a response from the user before it will restart to continue protection.
ZA seems to be a lot more stable when installed on a system that has no leftovers of previous ZA installations (google for instructions on how to clean the mess up). For this reason, and for it's good points, I would still recommend ZoneAlarm.

I will not renew my subscription with ZoneLabs, mainly because the AV update no longer works for a large number of their subscribers and the company can't be bothered to fix what is clearly their problem.
The worst customer service I have ever come across - even in the IT world!!

Amazing. I use the free version, and it does the job amazingly. I would recommend this over Nortan anytime. Even though it does not include the anti virus software i use other programs to search for viruses regularly, and delete them.
(Been using for over 2 years, Not one problem.)

The ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm Security Suites software is an incredibly slow resource hog. It does not protect, and I wouldn't even accept it as a gift.
It is utterly useless! It's difficult to load, and it slowed my entire PC down considerably. It claimed it could find spyware, but it overlooked quite a few large infections. It got to the point where my computer would take 10 minutes to start up.

ZoneLabs ZoneAlarm Security Suites is acceptable - It's the Firewall that is really good value.

ZoneAlarm Security Suites are using the scan-engine antivirus which is developed together with ComputerAssociates. It also uses the same definition database with eTrust EZ AntiVirus. Yup, it means you can download virus definition updates manually from eTrust website and then use it for ZoneAlarm (extract to: C:WINDOWSsystem32ZoneLabs). Cause as I know ZoneAlarm doesn't put the updates to download manually in their website. :)
Overall ZoneAlarm Security Suites has same capabilities with eTrust, but the lack features of eTrust are covered and improved by ZoneLabs product features (firewall, id-privacy protection, email security, and content-communication protection). Making it have good protection.
