We had a most enjoyable holiday. We ate well at Chesters and Angelos. The son of the owner of the Sofia recommended Star car hire. They were excellent value. All in all a great place to stay and a lovely Island. You will come home suitably refreshed.

Our second visit to the Hotel Sofia was in May 2005, and this place just goes from strength to strength.

Additions since out last visit include a new and quite swanky shower block in the pool area to the rear of the pool bar. They have also extensively paved the approach and other public areas which only serves to improve the hotels appearance.

Televisions have been added to the rooms providing many English channels for those respites from the sun.

We are back in September, cant wait. Our friends at the Hotel Sofia are such welcome hosts and we look forward to sharing our stories over a glass or two of Ouso..

I have seen a number of bad reviews for this hotel on various review sites and I find it hard to believe how these comments are justified. The magic of the small and friendly Greek holiday is to travel with realistic expectations. Don't expect five star facilities, don't expect suited waiters and gourmet food.

What you will get at the Hotel Sofia is first class cleanliness, first class freindly service, an excellent room with linen changed and rooms cleaned daily. A favourite pool bar with chatty and welcoming staff. A clean and welcoming pool. A safe and comfortable sun terrace. Quality dining made from fresh local produce.

If this sounds like your perfect holiday then book the Hotel Sofia today.. They are now featured with Kosmar for 2006 and beyond. And they even have thier own website for further information. Just go to Yahoo, Google or MSN and search for Hotel Sofia Samos and you will find it.

Above all engoy Samos, Engoy kambos and Engoy the Hotel Sofia.

Kambos is a lovely relaxing resort with an uncrowded beach. Excellent restaurants, with Nick the Greeks Fish taverna, and Costas (The one with the little blue bucket), come in for special praise. Hotel Sofia below par. We found the owner extremely rude, the rooms poorly decorated, and they got extremely hot. Air conditioning very expensive. Breakfasts OK, except for insipid orange juice. Best point is the Pool Bar, the friendly( owners son), and a good meeting point at end of the evening.

We have been back 3 times to Hotel Sofia, an excellent hotel, mainly because we have made good friends with the owners (Stavros and Sofia) and their son Vasilis. First two times with Thomson as package but 3rd time as independent travellers. We cannot understand the bad press they get from this and other review web sites. Samos itself is a beautiful island and we have travelled extensively in Greece before finding this resort in Kambos. We would thoroughly recommend Vangelis place across the road from the Sofia. He fishes in the evening/morning and serves his catch for lunch and evening meals - Fresh or what?

Hotel Sofia is a little gem, if you like the "small & friendly" holiday. The hotel is situated about 100 metres from the main road which is bordered by the sand/shingle beach. There is a fine selection of bars and tavernas from right on the doorstep to within ten minutes walk and a number of mini marts as well.

The Rooms are clean and welcoming, the facilities being as expected in Greece, although the pink walls take a few hours to get used to but lets face it you really wont be spending much time in your rooms. You can hire a fridge (brand new in 2004) for your room at a good price and also brand new air conditioning units can be hired for the summer months, although in September we didn't need it as the evenings are on average 14degressC.
The Staff are very friendly and if your lucky as we were they will invite you along to dine with them for great authentic Greek nights...

The focal point of the Hotel is the pool and pool bar, which is open all day and is manned by the owner's son Visili, a friendly chap who will happily chat with you. Stavros (The owner) stages a BBQ in the pool area every Saturday night and this is a great opportunity to meet everyone and discuss your adventures on this wonderful island. You will even get to meet Mario, the resident guard dog (only kidding, he''s a little westy) he happily does his rounds throughout the day and even keeps the cats in check.

Finally and by no means least, Sofia (Stavros''s wife, the hotels named after her) makes a mean breakfast and by Greek standards its more than adequate, with a different menu each day (although it is set with no choice), watch out for the doughnut balls, there fantastic.

There's a real family feeling about this hotel something that is all too rare these days.
Anyway, September 2004 was our first visit to this great hotel and we are going back in the spring, soon to become one of the many regular repeat visitors..

Check it out for yourselves, but don't tell too many people, it's a well-kept secret.

“Overall the Hotel Sofia is a good value 2* hotel...”

★★★☆☆

written by Revellers on 31/08/2004

Overall the Hotel Sofia is a good value 2* hotel situated in Kambos. The hotel is a short stroll from the great beach, away from main road. I would recommend it for a good value basic holiday. Not if you wanted any kind of luxury, but then you would have to pay for it.
