“Need to sort kids stuff out”

★★☆☆☆

written by Jill56 on 29/06/2013

We came back early from our holiday, having spent most of the time trailing round looking for things to entertain the kids after 4 o clock. What Haven should realise is these are summer nights and some kids do not want to be cooped up in the club. The caravan a deluxe was nice , but the toilet was discoloured, even though it had a label on saying it had been sanitised. They need cleaning first. The fire broke on the Monday we reported it because we had a baby with us but had to report it again tues, we had a baby with us who was cold all night. I think the facilities are very tired, and the management need to look at what they call wonderful facilities. A family with a few kids could not afford to go there, some of the food prices were very high and the shop prices were sky high. Will never go back.

written by Pete5130 on 24/10/2010

Turned up Today 24th Oct 10 touring pitches in a diabolical state. We managed to get the van on a pitch but we had mud all around us it was awful. Locked the van up and drove round the site a couple of times looking for a better pitch, all in vane. Weather was very bad but there is no effort or thought put into the pitches its just a few sloping fields with some very rough track seperating them. We sent the kids off to the pool while we tried to sort things out.I'm not a fussy bloke but there was no way we could spend five days in those conditions. Staff fine about it a and refunded our fees. We went to pick the kids up from the pool and they couldn't have been more disapointed. The rest of the facilities looked fine for what it is and I'm sure the kids would have loved it but I'm afraid we couldn't spend five nights on the Somme.

“I stayed here with my husband and 9yr old in our own...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 14/09/2010

I stayed here with my husband and 9yr old in our own touring caravan in August 2010 for 10 nights. We observed the following points:
1. The touring area seemed very over crowded but we had booked a Euro Pitch (one of only 6) and so had our own separate area with plenty of room on the pitch.
2. However, the pitch itself was covered in cigarette butts - clearly no effort had been made to tidy this up and we had to lay our awning over them all.
3. The Spar shop is very well stocked but incredibly overpriced. Go to the Tesco in Scarborough.
4. The sole reason we chose this site was because it has a gym. However, what the website doesn't tell you is that the gym is only open 3 days a week and for very limited hours during those days. We felt very misled by the advertising.
5. We ordered a pack of Leisure passes online to save money thinking that, the gym being a leisure activity, we could use them for this purpose. But no, we had to pay £4 to use antiquated and limited equipment.
6. The entertainment for children is very good but be prepared to empty your pockets of money. At every opportunity, the staff actively encourage the kids to ask their parents for money for various things such as tattoos.
7. The leisure activities for children are also very good.
We were very dissapointed with this venue - we felt that the advertising had been very misleading and the whole park was tired, outdated and money grabbing at every opportunity.
It is fair to say, at this point, that we have stayed at the Haven in Weymouth which is a very different experience so we do feel able to compare!
I returned the comments card with these issues raised and got a letter "respectfully" telling me in essence that such blatant over-egging in the advertising should be expected. I'm not naive - I appreciate what advertising is for but felt they have gone too far with this park. I would not recommend this park to anyone.

written by on 08/09/2009

We booked a weekend with the Daily Mail offer so the price was pretty good. However that was really the only thing that was good. Check-in was at at 4 p.m. and we arrived at 3.30 and even though the caravan was ready they wanted to charge £10 to let us have the key at that time. Web waited until 4 p.m. and the queue was huge. Never seen anything like it at a caravan park. We eventually got to out "superior" caravan which was OK but not great. But the fun really began in the evening. First there was loud music, presumably from the entertainment and then in the early hours of the morning there were drunken yobs cavorting around the site, shouting and banging on caravans. I don't know if it's usually like this but I've never been to a caravan site where people behaved so badly. One night I was on my own in the caravan and it felt pretty intimidating.

We booked last minute and got a standard caravan,so we didn't expect luxury, but it was awful.Cobwebs everywhere, the sofas stunk, dog hairs all over, bedrooms foisty ,all the kitchen cupboards and walls were in need of a good clean.Thankgod we had to take our own bedding and were only there for 3 nights. The site facilities wern't any better. The toilets on a night were flooded especially the mens. The pool wasn't adequate enough for the size of the Park and in need of a complete revamp,in fact the whole park facilities are in need of a revamp.Wouldn't goto Haven again.Very disappointing.

★★☆☆☆

written by on 22/08/2009

What a great location, but thats where the excitement ends, Check in was a night mare, although it started on time there was no flexibility and no organisation, despite arriving a few hours early because of travelling a few hundred miles to get there they would not consider letting us in early, we could not use the facilities as we did not yet have the necessary passes so we had to sit in the carpark or use the only bar open to us which must have been the most expensive in Yorkshire. The accommodation was poorly maintained, and the standard of cleanliness was mediocre. the staff on the whole (check in aside) were polite and helpful where necessary and the groundsmen were good at their jobs (the grass was well groomed and the surrounding shrubbery well managed, the facilities though were poorly maintained and undersized for the number of vistors, and were also only available at certain times of the day, unless haven could take some money off you that is. The whole site is dedicated to taking as much money as possible off you and I think I would have faired better financially if I had booked the family into a very good Hotel in Scarborough 5 miles away. would I return to Blue Dolphin, NO - never, would I use another Haven site, probably not.
My recommendation in relation to the Blue Dolphin .... steer well clear.

written by jflowdy on 02/06/2009

The check in process was very slow. We booked a prestige caravan which is the top of the range at this park. However having stayed at a few other Haven sites I was very dissapointed with the van and would say that it was of a lower grade. The carpet was dirty as were the worksurfaces. I reported this to reception and they sent a member of staff to sort this out.

“I booked this Blue Dolphin holiday in jan for may 15th...”

★★★☆☆

written by carriepeach on 19/05/2009

I booked this Blue Dolphin holiday in jan for may 15th to 18th and paid £97.50 for a 6 birth, 2 bed superior caravan. After reading the reviews I was quite worried about the state the caravan would be in but was pleasently suprised at how clean it was. The bedrooms were very cold at night but as you have free run of gas fire we left it on all evening to warm the bedrooms before going to bed.

When we arrived my brother called to say he wanted to get a train to us so I asked for another pass as there was only 5 of us in a 6 birth and without questions, I was given one. I queried this at 2.30pm and we were given our keys then which was great as our check-in wasn't meant to be till 4pm.

One thing I felt was very strange was that the reception was over the completely opposite side of the park. I thought they were meant to be at the entrace???

The evening entertainment was really good, and my 3 yr old loved the childrens shows in the evenings, although it was very loud and you couldn't hear one another speak.

The bar was priced just right, well apart from the wine. Pints were £2.70 or you could get a 4 pint pitcher for £9.95, but the wine was £3.25 for a very small glass.

The facilites were great for children. Lots of things going on but at the wrong times really. Soft play 12 - 4, when we were out in another town, as most people would be. And very highly priced. Activities in the pool which prob lasted for an hour were £6 each, so didn't use these facilities.

All staff were very friendly and helpful, apart from one

Arcades were pricey but lots of fun. Even more fun when we found a machine called 'the jolly rodger'. 10p a go, but when you won it chucked out double the winnings. And you won on nearly every go. Saved some pennies to go on it on our last night but some young lad had obviuosly found the same thing and wouldn't come off it, lol!

Overall, a lovely holiday. Would def go back to the blue dolphin.

“We stopped at blue dolphin in a tent, checked in, in...”

★★★☆☆

written by on 07/07/2008

We stopped at blue dolphin in a tent, checked in, in about 2 mins, the pitch we picked was nice and flat and near the shower blocks, the shower blocks are cleaned constantly but need modernising, some of the showers were absolutely awful hardly any water coming out at all or cold, if you search about you can find a nice hot one. The clubs on a night were good but packed out and hard to find a seat, worst part of all was the noise on a night teenagers running around the tents and caravans laughing and screaming till gone 2am, they were tripping over the ropes of the tent and banging into cars, people in tents and caravans laughing and joking and shouting well into the morning, security don't seem to give a monkeys, even though there are guidelines saying no noise after 11pm. The fish shop was terrible and seems to be run by teenagers that don't care about anything and are slow at serving you never mind actually cooking anything, burger king is better but way overpriced, the arcades and machines can't be serviced very often as some don't work or wont take coins. Not as good as primrose valley just down the road, not by a long shot.

“Went & meal in 'Smugglers' ordered 2 pretty simple...”

★★☆☆☆

written by johnjohn81 on 16/06/2008

Went & meal in 'Smugglers' ordered 2 pretty simple meals, Steak & Chips (well done) Pie & Chips. After a 45 minute wait a member of staff turns up with 'Steak & Chips' which for some reason wasn't hot, and was done medium rare'. Further 10 minutes later same woman comes out with the 'Pie & Chips'. Once I explained that we didn't have knife & forks, she pointed them out to us. Went back to the caravan & cooked something ourselves.
Second day we thought we would try our look in 'Burger King'. Mid afternoon and seemed very busy, got told it will take 5 mins to cook your food. Fair enough. 15 minutes later were still waiting, all we ordered was two standard meals.
We accept that maybe its not peak time, but you at least expect the basics (ordering simple meals) to be up to scratch.
Generally found the park okay, the actual location is perfect for trips out. Though we only went for 4 days, we personally thought this was more than enough and won't be returning in the near future.

★★☆☆☆

written by sarah on 11/04/2007

Our caravan was very clean and had everything in it that we needed for our stay. We basically just used this site for our base and went out sight seeing every day. Didn't like the amusement arcade, it was too busy.

Entertainment in the evening was OK. Quite good for the children, they enjoyed all the games and dancing. Don't bother with the bingo, you can't hear the numbers being called.

“I have been to many campsites, including Haven ones,...”

★★★☆☆

written by dov1978 on 10/08/2006

I have been to many campsites, including Haven ones, and I know to expect that it won't be as comfortable and clean as my own home, as many other people will be sharing the facilities, but I still expect a basic standard of cleanliness. We got a decent tent pitch in the basic tent area at the Blue Dolphin Haven Holiday park, so we were happy with that. My first visit to the toilet block was in the morning around 6am for a shower. I wish I had had flip-flops on, as the floor was filthy and smelly, and as I raised my eyes to the ceiling the view got no better due to the mould and damp causing the plaster to begin falling away. In the toilet area it smelled of raw sewage. Around 7pm I visited the toilet block again, only to find the cleaning ladies cleaning the toilet area at the same time as the men were using the urinals behind them.

Upon our visit to the club-house we went to change our baby in the baby-changing room, only to find it locked, so we went to the bar to ask for a key. The floor in the bar was like walking on chewing gum... VERY STICKY!!! And it had not been cleaned from the night before. My partner asked about the baby changing room and was told we could only use the ladies toilets, but when my partner went in she walked straight back out because it was so dirty and smelly. We actually left a day early because we were fearing the morning shower so much! We don't have overly high standards, just basic ones, but this site didn't meet them.

“The Blue Dolphin Haven holiday park campsite was OK,...”

★★☆☆☆

written by jf3571 on 30/07/2006

The Blue Dolphin Haven holiday park campsite was OK, until we were boxed in with some other tents. We felt the tents were too close together, and that they were a severe hazard. If we needed to get out in the car in a hurry it would have been a struggle.
