Man, this is one awesome bike! The FZR 1000 EXUP is my first superbike, before, GS1000G, CB750, GS550 and a couple of off roads. Being my first superbike, i was a bit scarred in the beginning but got on quite well. This bike is all i need. It has so much power that i sometimes get scares on it and have to slow down (ive seen 275 km/ph on it). It realy stays with the newer bikes and also beat some of them!! I bought it for R20 000.00 from a good friend and only problem ive had was a small oil leak which was fixed easily. I use it only for fun, but Fun with a capital letter!! I enjoy every moment on it and recommend anyone to buy one - even if its an old bike, it is still worth it!! Come on all you guys with the new expensive crotch rockets - take on an FZR 1000 and see what happens!!

Put 600 k on it first 2 days of ownership. will put another 1000 on this weekend to get it home. RED white and black model.. complete with Yoshi slip on and dyna jet kit. Seems well sorted. I have 46 years riding ( 64 yrs age) Ive had RD 350,s YDS3 250 RZ 350 Heritage 650 2005 R6 and that's just the Yamys. This thing is minty and so good to look at I had to pick it up 36000 k and strong. Pulls you to Oh my God in short order. No need to mix the shifter pull it up to 120 thru the gears settle into 5th and thats it. Passes are just a roll on away. I love it. Oil/ tire chage today and then the long haul.. More later

Certainly one of the best bikes ever built by Yamaha.Perfect handler, devastatingly fast - it even keeps up with modern bikes. Only negative point must be the poor fuel consumption when ridden hard, which the bike begs you to do.

what can i say about the Yamaha FZR1000 EXUP RU 1000 ! the bike is an icon. possibily the only bike from its era that can cut it with the modern stuff. roll on aceleration in top gear
good looking
more power than you can ever use
good build quality
decent pillion seat if you secure a minter then cherish it !!!!! The only downsides i feel are fuel consumption
mirrors
heavy by modern standards.

“My 1990 Yamaha 3GM/LK series is a California bike...”

★★★★★

My 1990 Yamaha 3GM/LK series is a California bike (just has fuel vapour recycler) but I have dispensed with the Exup valve and fitted a full Akropovic system. Full power is quite awesome but town riding suffers. Pops from the exhaust are cured by paying attention to the tickover - no higher than 900rpm and all is well. Rear tyres (Dunlop 208 - excellent grippers) last for 3000 miles with fronts twice that. Takes 4 miles to warm tyres in summer and up to 10 in winter - do not recommend trackday rubber for the road commuter. May try out a Thunderace but all the latest bikes are lightweight tupperware by comparison to these serious machines - the FZR eats the lightweights in crosswinds on motorways. Superb motorcycle.

The bad points aren't a big deal when you consider I commute every day to and from work and a quick shakedown on the long way home.should be very capable on b roads after retuning shocks.sprocket conversion sounds like a really good modification, like it wasn't fast enough.

Bought it new in 1994 had regular servicing has done 85,000 km and has had no extra work needed.
Do 5 or 6 track days a year.
Wouldn't sell. It does all I require

I will never sell my Yamaha FZR1000, you just can't go faster for less money. I got mine for a grand and I love it. The speed and handling are great. The only bad point is that the fuel consumption/oil light comes on sometimes when these levels are actually OK.

★★★★☆

written by Pete2906 on 29/08/2004

The Yamaha FZR1000 EXUP RU 1000 is first big bore sports bike and I am not disappointed. Cheapish to buy. Mine is a 1995 Foxeye and I paid £2500 2 years ago. Took it up to Scotalnd a few weeks ago with the lads and saw in excess of 170mph down Glencoe. I left the Firestorms, Triumph 955i's & CBR600's standing.

I'd still like to try a Blade or a GSXR1000, but not affordable at the moment due to wife & 3 Kids.
