I was very pleased to see how customs have made security tight. However I'm not pleased with the way people are treated going through customs. The security people are down right rude and ignorant. I fully appreciate how strict they have to be. But the way you are spoken to is absolutely disgraceful. Surely they can be nice to people..it doesn't cost anything. We're not all criminals. Thsey need training on manners and politeness. My sister and myself were disgusted the way we treat, there is just no need for it..they you feel like something on the bottom of their shoes, its disgraceful.I have to use Manchester because its my nearest airport..unfortunately I wish I didn't have to

Having used the Meet & Greet parking at Terminal 2 last year and finding it a really good experience I thought I would use the same service when flying from Terminal 1 in November this year. On arrival finding the car park was fine and the booking in process quick. However, on return it would have helped if someone could have pointed out the parking zones as we were just told 6/20 and when outside assumed it was row 6 and were looking perplexed when one of the parking assistants who happened to be there pointed us in the right direction towards the parking zones. At Terminal 2 the car was under cover but in Terminal 1 this isn't the case and it can be quite a trek particularly if it's raining or snowing. Perhaps, if it's the first time you have used the service it could be qualified at the time of booking in and clearer instructions given on return. However, I would use the service again but would be better prepared. Jean Wroe November 2012

Have gone to Manchester a few more times since last review, still a nice place and I recommend it to all travelers. Clean Airport and people friendly. I still fly Air Southwest and Continental, not Northwest as I stated in my past review.

In general a busy well managed airport that seems to have taken recent security changes in its stride. The waits for luggage at terminal 1 can be frustrating but this is the oldest terminal and is due for upgrade. There is a good range of retail outlets but most are not open 24/07. Refreshments difficult to obtain late at night and early morning.

Manchester Airport is the one of the busiest airports I have ever been too.
2005 Travelling through airport -
There for 6 of us travelling on Thomas cook flight. We arrived 1 hour early for check in, due to us never flying from Manchester we didn't no how long it would take to get there. At first however we couldn't find Thomas cook check in until a very helpful lady from the airport customer service came over and ask us if we were lost. She directed us to the check in. Got to check in Thomas cook/SAS aviation check in attendant more then happy to open the check in for us 1 hour early.
We checked in and started to walk away all most instantly a call was put out telling us we had forgot to pick up the boarding cards. Went back they gave us boarding card and helped us through to the security.
Got to the security check point and a very helpful staff member opened up a section of the belt and said come on through. We thought there was a problem until he told us he was just opening up and new security line.
Got past security in 5 minutes.
Went through couple of hours later after watching planes etc boarded very clean Thomas cook aircraft and we were off.
Travelling through in 2006
This year there was 14 of us 1 wheelchair passenger and 1 baby.
Got to desk and were told we were delayed due to aircraft being out somewhere and Thomas cook not releasing when they changed the aircraft 2 days before departure. We check in they asked if we needed any assistance with baby or wheelchair passenger.
Got to security and they were a bit slow but they opened up a security since we had a wheelchair passenger and baby for us.
Got through security and went through. We had a 3 hour delay and 1 hour in children were getting bored so we decided to ask if they were allowed to play in an empty gate. The airport staff said it was fine and found us a gate that was not being used all day. It allowed the children and us some time and the children were fascinated with the plane taking off and landing. 3 Hours later call was put out we were boarding. Of course the wheelchair passenger we had with us got boarded first. Very helpful staff got them extra legroom with out even paying. Plane was not clean. Boarded plane and took off.
Travelling Back Home - 2005
Arrived back at Manchester on time de-bored aircraft and headed to the passport control. Despite it being 0300 there were still a full set of staff on and got through all most immediately. Bags came short after staff were there to help and then was on our way home at 0400 only an hour for bags and everything.
Travelling back home - 2006
Arrived 15 minutes early back home. Staff still on at 0330 full at all desks.
Bags were slower this year but probably because it was a bigger aircraft. No staff to help at all even with wheelchair or baby passengers. Got out of baggage reclaim at about 0430.
To finish Manchester airport is very good the staff are 50% helpful and if there is a delay and you have children will try there hardest to get you a empty gate. I would defiantly recommend flying from Manchester Airport, as it's the best airport I have travelled through. Also if you're flying long haul you go to terminal 2 which I have never seen but sounds good.
I flew from terminal 1 I think its the biggest and would recommend to anyone.

Hi, I agree. Manchester Airport is good,

One thing - terminal 1 isn't the biggest. Terminal 2 is all long haul, except the odd one or two flights.

I think you will find Terminal 2 IS all that in the middle; out from the terminal is used too.
I'll prove it... Look on the Manchester Airport website.

You will find that terminal 1 is the biggest gate wise, and it has the most gates.

I have been flying to Manchester Airport recently and I think it is a nice place. The Airport is not huge but still has many good shops and restraunt facilites. I usually fly on Northwest or Southwest planes and the landing and takeoff are quite smooth.

I have flown from Manchester International Airport for most of my life. I have flown from terminal 1 and 2. I prefer terminal 1 as this has the best variety of shops and facilities, with a hugh food court and a bar overlooking the runway. Food prices can be a bit expensive, but I suppose you expect that anyway! There are plenty of book, electrical and fashion shops to keep you amused during delays. I think most places have a 24 hour opening time too. It is quite central to many cities in the north. It also has frequent bus and Train services, and excellent motorway links.

Hi with working at Manchester Airport the other side of the cin is that we are abused daily by customers who are rude and aggressive they blame the staff for them arriving late and for them leaving liquids in their bags. Passengers are asked before they enter security to remove all liquids out of bags, there are very big signs to inform them what to remove including liquids and electrical items, we have staff who prep passengers informing them to remove this items by the tray loading there are 9 feet signs and videos and also the tray loaders ask all passengers to remove same items but passengers are still surprised when their bags are rejected and then we have an argument with them over whether shampoo is a liquid and when 500ml is above the limit. Passengers treat us like something they have stepped on and we are suppose to soak it up. Then when we dare to answer back they threaten to report us and complain. Passengers need to treat us with respect . We are there for there safety we are tired with being told they don't do this in Heathrow or Germany or wherever.
