“MONEY GRAB”

Recent trip to Halifax from Edmonton, paid the 25.00 for luggage, bought the Plus seating, Trip there, watched TV, had stopover in Toronto. Trip back through Calgary, NO TV, wanted to charge for internet if you had the AP, I am 74 years old, 5hr flight took forever without entertainment.

“Additional Charges”

★★★★☆

written by AllanWatt on 05/03/2016

Hello; I just returned from 4 Westjet flights, Victoria - Calgary & Calgary to Houston. It blew my mind when the announcement for headphones are being charged by Westjet. My connecting flight from Houston to Merida with United they were NO CHARGE! With the savings of jet fuel due to the current oil barrel costs, Westjet profits must be better than ever! To bad I'm not a share holder! The staff in general were very courteous and accommidating! Great flight times was a blessing! So overall that's my positive and only 1 negative! Keep creating more cities you fly to! Thanks for this web sight! Regards

“Price Drop Guarantee - Careful! It's Not What it Seems”

★★★★☆

written by allendick on 23/10/2015

"Book the flight you want, and if the price drops after you book, right up until 2 hours before you fly, we'll give you back the difference in WestJet dollars. No games, just peace of mind. That's our Price Drop Guarantee." is the advertised claim, and I believed it. I fly Westjet often, and have been happy with the flights, no problem there, but it so happened that I recently booked a flight for myself, my daughter and her two kids. I paid for all of us and was not worried about waiting for the best price since I had read the guarantee. "No games, just peace of mind?", right? Silly me, I took that claim at face value. The devil is in the details and of course I did not know the details until I set out to fill out a claim and found that promise was hollow. Two days after reserving the flights I happened to check the prices and saw I was eligible for the Westjet Price Drop Guarantee, so I set out to claim the difference. That is when I learned that although I paid all the fares and do not routinely fly with this group, the guarantee only applies to their fares if they each, including children have a Westjet ID -- and then the fare credit goes for each of them, even though they did not pay their own fares -- not to me. Moreover, the credits expire in six months. Some peace of mind! Maybe this makes some kind of sense to Westjet, but I feel ripped off.

“Great Customer Service”

★★★★☆

written by Snugglz on 05/04/2015

My husband and I were flying from Kitchener to Calgary in March 2015. Flight was cancelled March 3rd due to freezing rain. Now my husband is sick man, suffering lung cancer trying to make it home to see his family. If anyone knows the Kitchener airport is out in " No where". Needless to say our daughter drove us there and left due to the weather. Feeling lost, frustrated and stressed due to the flight being cancelled, I didn't know what to do. My main concern is my husband. Westjet staff did " everything" they humanly could to find us accommodations, re- book our flight, transportation to and from the hotel. We truly felt blessed that night. Thank you so much WestJet, will never be forgotten!!!

“They are great......”

Two flights with Westjet 26th and 29th May 2013. We are from New Zealand, Knew nothing about Westjet, took a punt and it sure paid dividends. Great check in, excellent staff in all areas. Departures on time, easy boarding, good clean modern planes. Flights were Vancouver to Calgary, 26th May, Calgary to Los Angeles, 29th May. Would gladly fly with this airline again.

“Premium Seating”

★★★★☆

written by JKLC on 08/05/2013

Westjet's premium seating is a flop. All that it has accomplished is cramming passengers into a smaller area. Very few people will pay extra to sit in a same size seat with the same service as economy. The program is not attracting first class travellers. It is only annoying its loyal customers.

“Happy staff”

Flight attendant Chuck on west jet 373 from Ottawa to Toronto was HiLLIARIOUS. His crew were happy, he made the passengers chuckle. After a long day that is exactly what I needed. I didn't care that my tray table was slanted or that we were not offered snacks because of delay. It was a fun flight-felt like I was at a live comedy show!!!

Flew from Toronto to Vancouver. First time travel with Westjet.Very happy with the amount of legroom I got, even in a standard economy seat. The 4 stars is just for that. The staff were very friendly which is more than can be said about the ignorants that work in the airport.Bad side was that you had to pay for food and drink, the entertainment turned out to be TV which kept on losing its signal and the queue for the toilets.

written by IhateAC on 06/08/2008

I fly often, I prefer to take WJ over AC because I know they will take care of me when they make a mistake. They make timely announcements when there are delays, cancellations. Once when my bag was delayed they gave me all the info needed including how to contact the airport directly and the agent's name. They also kept me updated regarding the status of my bag. In comparison my bag was delayed on AC and I couldn't contact the airline at all. When I asked the central office (who had no info) why I couldn't get the number for the local airport they responded with, "The airports are not equipped to handle calls". I had no information or updates from the agents at AC and was surprised when I get a knock at the door at 2am from a guy delivering my delayed bag. I would choose WJ any day over AC.

“Firstly I can't say my "Bad Points" aren't really all...”

★★★★☆

written by theIsin on 19/06/2008

Firstly I can't say my "Bad Points" aren't really all that bad, as I will explain.

I have been a loyal Air Canada (AC) Customer for years now. And for as much as I hear complaints about AC, I hear great things about Westjet (WJ). So I decided to take a WJ flight to see what makes them so great. Mind you I know you cant base such biased opinions on an airline with one flight, In my opinion you need to be a frequent flier to make a fair review with an airline. That said here is my opinion of this airline based on one flight I have been on with them.

I purchased the ticket on their website. Overall I prefer AC's online purchase and web check-in. But at the end of the day its the same thing, and both airlines are very easy to use. I just don't like how on WJ you select the city from a list rather than start to type such as on AC's website. Really not a big deal...

When I arrived at the Airport (Toronto t3) I went straight to security (no checked bags)

The aircraft I flew on was a fairly new 700 series. I had seat 12A (Lots of leg room because its a Emergency exit) But as far as leg room it was comparable to AC's fleet. The flight attendants were polite, and seemed very professional with a twist of a sense of humour at times.

Everything went on-time and the flight was uneventful. I checked the lavs to make sure they were tidy (of course it would be because it was the first flight of the day for this aircraft and it would have been cleaned overnight)

Basically I got what I expected. Nothing better than Air Canada and nothing worse.

The bad point about the headset is the cost of $3, the good point is that it's a good headset and well worth the $3. While AC will give you a complementary headset, it is not as comfortable as the Wesjet one. So on that note, for some the $3 is worth it, take your pick as it seems like a fair match to me.

I don't like the PTV's as much as AC's larger screens with on demand programs. Its nice to start a movie from the beginning rather than join in. (I never purchased a movie. Maybe it starts from the beginning, it just appeared that it does not)

Overall I give westjet no credit to being superior over AC. When it comes time to make my next purchase it will come down to scheduling and cost, where AC seems to have a competitive edge.

What I don't like about WJ and LCC's in general is they are flying the airline industry into turbulence(figuratively). In short, all airlines are "becoming" LCC because they cant sell tickets at the cost they are really worth. That's why now you have to purchase food, headsets, checked bag charges etc. But the average consumer purchases tickets based on the lowest price. No wonder flying has become such a poor experience, what happened to the good old days...

Whatever airline you choose just be proud to fly in a country that provides regulations making both of our largest carriers some of the safest in the world. At the end of the day this is most important, no?

I recommend WestJet for big groups. We had a flight back to Montreal from Vancouver and were stuck in unusual traffic on our way to the airport. As soon as we arrived, a little lady came to guide us and we went through check-in and security in a record time. All of our luggage made in to destination, we had great service before, during and after our flights. No complain. I would fly with them again without any second thought.

I recommend WestJet to all age groups either travelling alone or with a group! I have never personally encountered any negative experiences with this company. (I travel with my young daughter regularly)

My son, his girlfriend and his cousin are currently flying Westjet from Ottawa to Winnipeg today. There were engine problems and so they diverted to Thunder Bay. Were told they had to call somebody to do repairs but eventually a new plane was called for. They left Ottawa around 4:40 expecting to arrive in Winnipeg about 6:30. They are now just boarding the plane to finally take off again for Winnipeg. They are students, so this was a big expense to go to Winnipeg for a wedding. Westjet offered no meals, credits or any kind of partial refund for delaying their customers. This was not an inadvertent delay related to weather but actually due to the inoperability of the airplane. There should be some sort of compensation. Can anyone advise us?
