“Appalling service”

★★☆☆☆

written by LelaG on 17/01/2016

I reserved a round trip from Toronto, ON to Sarasota, FL, January 2016. I checked in a bicycle, according to their rules. The bicycle never arrived at destination. They delivered the bicycle 3 days later. Many passengers did not get their luggage either. The staff at Sarasota airport are untrained and unqualified to process the claim. They learn on the job, taking 50 minutes by the clock, to read and understand the company's rules and regulations. I will not fly with this airline again.

“Smoke n mirrors”

★★☆☆☆

written by ShaniaBowman on 13/02/2015

They cram you in like a cattle truck and then try to be funny. I don't trust them and I don't think they take it very serious. All just a big ha ha ha The prices have creeped up to same as Air Canada so I fail to see the benefits of risking your life with these clowns

“Delayed Flights becoming the norm”

★★☆☆☆

written by Bria114 on 12/12/2014

I fly through Calgary regularily from Grande Prairie and Kamloops and it seems the Westjet flights are delayed or cancelled and at the same time the Air Canada flights are going. This seems to be more and more the norm. I miss the Westjet from a few years ago that made air travel feel reliable.

“They believe their own BS but I no longer do. ”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 28/12/2013

Much like kids who are taught self esteem but no values, WestJet employees think they are special because, well, they are told they are. They, apparently, no longer feel they have to earn or work at having a good reputation. Employees think that smiling and talking in a pleasant tone is by itself sufficient. It is not. I'm sick of the annoying parental tone. It's as if I'm a child who does not know better. Rather than work out a problem they merely inform you of the rule. But it's done ever so nicely, for the most part. Do they think it's everyones first time flying or that somehow WestJet is an entirely different experience. This review is the result of my most recent experience but my feeling in this regard has been brewing for some time. In the last month I have flown Air Canada, Lufthansa 2x, KLM 2x and Estonian Air 2x. Yes even the Estonians renowned for their generally flat affect kicked WestJet's ass. I can honestly say that all beat WestJect hands down in the professionality department. Canada has limited airline options and though I was once loath to say it, I recommend Air Canada over WestJet. It's not even close.

“They left my luggage and about twenty other passengers...”

★★☆☆☆

written by leafwin on 20/09/2013

They left my luggage and about twenty other passengers behind because of over crowding. As we waited for our luggage some West Jet rep kept walking around "shaking hands and kissing babys". Once she found out there was a problem she bolted like an olympic sprinter. We found our way to the WJ baggage counter and was met by some overly friendly disingenuous agent that seemed to lose the painted smile as soon as some customers expressed concearn and he became borderline hostile when more passangers didnt respond to his comedy routine. I was promiced I would get a call when determined whether it was left behind and when it would be delivered. You cant speak to anyone live just a message box and no one called. Its sad after such promice this airline has become a joke.

“Mexican Disaster”

★★☆☆☆

written by sboyce on 30/04/2013

Recently our party of 56 people (for a wedding) were scheduled to fly home Westjet from Cancun, Mexico to Ottawa ON. We were picked up and taken to the airport @ 5am for a 10:35 flight. After being moved to 3 different gates in different ends of the airport and many hours of being told "10 more minutes, 1/2 hour more etc.", we were informed at supper time that our flight was cancelled. 12 hours later!!! We were shipped to a hotel near the airport (very competent and nice hotel covered by Westjet....not bottled water though). The hotel was more than ready for us, which left us wondering how long they had known we were coming??? We were again picked up the next day at 5am to fly out at 7. At 7:30 ish we were still sitting in the airport waiting (which by the way didn't have working washrooms!!)They finally loaded us all on the airplane, got us settled and the pilot came out to announce that a paper that was to be signed the day before after the mechanical issue was corrected had been neglected and there was only one person who could do it and he was in bed and would try to get there by 11:00! We were then deboarded!! They did manage to convince the guy to come earlier and we got away by 9:30-10:00. Should someone on Westjet not noticed this the day before??? The flight crew (a few of whom had been rather crusty on the flight down) now painted their best smiles on for damage control and actually did turn the day around, but many of us lost wages for the extra time missed. I feel more than an "oops, sorry". is warranted in this case and compensation for lost wages is in order. Also, when stranding people in places like Mexico, bottled water is essential and non-negotiable!! West-Jet also has to be more vigilant in screening the help they hire in some of these countries. They still are the front-line staff and can leave a lasting impression of West-Jet services overall.

“Needs better management”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 20/02/2013

The current management of WestJet has grown the company too big, too quickly. Incompetance, mismanagement and spin doctoring is what WestJet is now best at. The company is no different than its rival, Air Canada when it comes to fares, schedules and service. Many WestJet employees have told me that morale is at rock bottom, and most WestJet staff are afraid to speak out for fear of reprisal. WestJet keeps a tight grasp over all it's employees, and tries to buy their loyalty- and silence with "profit share" cheques. I have flown WestJet back in the early days, but will not fly with them any more until they replace their President and most of their current management. Air Canada- Here I Come!

I agree, with the fact that West Jet has changed in their corporate culture..... and what is suffering is customer dedication. I swore I would never fly Air Canada again, because West Jet was the answer to all bad experiences of traveling within and out of Canada..... Guess we need more competition?

I agree, Westjet was once an amazing airline that set itself apart from Air Canada. No fee for a second checked bag, no fee to change flight dates, cheaper flights and excellent customer service was, for me, what made Westjet my go-to carrier.

Nowadays none of that exists and Air Canada and Westjet seem to have eerily similar prices for the same routes. Its very unfortunate and I can definitely say Westjet is no longer my preferred airline within Canada.

Porter cannot get out west fast enough....

“Lots could be improved”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 07/07/2012

I am stuck with Westjet. They are the only airline flying Calgary to Windsor direct. Have flown with them many times, but the staff seem to be getting more miserable as time goes on. The phone call centre is a disaster (LONG waits on the phone); their loyalty program is impossible to navigate, and the flight attendants seem indifferent. They are excellent, however, with being on time.

“I am travelling West Jet for the first time.”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 22/05/2012

I travelled Sunwing vacations on this trip. Great service. Web site was easy to navigate and booked my seat ahead of time without trouble. I just booked my first vacation with West Jet Vacations. I am having a terrible time getting my E ticket to print. They want me to switch to Fire fox. I can't book my seat online like Sunwing. I tried calling Westjet but keep getting a call centre and then they say they are closed. Been in St Maarten with Sunwing for two months at Sonesta Maho.Had a great time.I wanted to visit Los Cabos but I am feeling this is going to the trip from hell with the layover that was not visibly mentioned and the poor service. I hope I am wrong. I will write a full report as usual on Trip Advisor.

“After their lack of change management considerations...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 09/12/2009

After their lack of change management considerations when they decided to abruptly transition to a new transaction system, they totally disappointed me today with their lack of attention to detail. They are totally winning customers. My parents were going on an international flight to Vietnam and they started in Calgary, AB. I asked the check in personnel if the baggages were going to the final destination, Vietnam and he said yes. I found out later when my parents got to Vancouver en route to reconnect that the personnel put the wrong tags on the luggage. The destination of choice was Taipei. Come on what was going through his head when he processed the baggages. Ok, maybe we were suppose to check the baggage tags on the ticket, but come-on, how were we suppose to know this? Anyways A TIP FOR EVERYONE, MAKE SURE that the small print on your baggage tags has your final destination written on it, you gotta pick up their slack.

My son, his girlfriend and his cousin are currently flying Westjet from Ottawa to Winnipeg today. There were engine problems and so they diverted to Thunder Bay. Were told they had to call somebody to do repairs but eventually a new plane was called for. They left Ottawa around 4:40 expecting to arrive in Winnipeg about 6:30. They are now just boarding the plane to finally take off again for Winnipeg. They are students, so this was a big expense to go to Winnipeg for a wedding. Westjet offered no meals, credits or any kind of partial refund for delaying their customers. This was not an inadvertent delay related to weather but actually due to the inoperability of the airplane. There should be some sort of compensation. Can anyone advise us?
