“We stayed at the Mastichari Bay Apartments for one...”

★★★★☆

written by Worlebury on 14/09/2004

We stayed at the Mastichari Bay Apartments for one week 4th Sep 2004. We wanted a quiet and peaceful place and that is exactly what we got. The hotel is classed as four star, and I think this is correct. The rooms were much larger than the usual in Greece and the shower room was large, with curtain and we never ran out of hot water. The rooms are in groups of 4 or 5, in what they call houses. There are around 25 houses, all with around 4 to 5 rooms in each house. There are a few steps but it would be possible to get around using ramps for people with wheelchairs, although it would take longer. The same with the village of Mastihari. It is all quite flat, but where there are one or two steps, there is usually a ramp nearby. It is a small village with about a dozen or so tavernas (our favourite was the Seaside Restaurant) and a handful of tourist shops and a couple of supermarkets. There are no nightclubs. We wanted a small, friendly resort and that is exactly what we got. The beach near the hotel is rocky at the shore with seaweed, but it is truly only a 5 minute walk to the village where the beach is much nicer. There are sunbeds available on this beach and the charge was 5 euros per day for 2 beds with umbrella and table. At the hotel, there are sunbeds on a grass area (we were never charged) and also around the pool and on the beach.
From Mastihari you can get a bus to Kos Town 1.90 euros per person each way. From Kos Town you can get boats and ferries to Bodrum cheaply too. Also from Mastihari, you can get buses to Kardamena and we did this early morning so we were there before the night clubbers woke up! We also did a ferry trip from Mastihari to Kalymnos for 3.50 euros each way per person.
We had two encounters with the night receptionist at the hotel, both of which were unpleasant, on our arrival day and on our departure day, but every other member of staff at the hotel were polite, friendly and helpful. Don't let him put you off!
All in all, we had a lovely holiday here. We did not eat at the hotel, so I have zero rated it for food.

We have been to Mastihari Bay hotel twice and we are going again very soon. We really love it, the food is brill, so is the pool and pool bar. We loved the animation team. They were the best. Everyone is really friendly and it is a very warm atmosphere. The apartments are really great and clean. We went to another part of greece and it was ok but now we always come back to Mastichari. The best hotel in the world.
