Fridge looks great. Sadly the design and quality of the materials used are pitifully inferior. Ice box door catch broke almost straight away. Door shelves have shattered. Glass shelves are supported by plastic pins attached to the edge of the shelves, instead of being supported by the channels running full length of shelf. Totally defies logic someone could design this. Two have broken. This fridge has been loved, not used roughly. It's shameful Smeg have not recalled and replaced every one of these.

i agree with other buyers the only thing good about this is how it looks outside .I didn't even want to give it 1 star but you had to put a rating in . I would advise people not to waste their money on this product I've had trouble with it from the start and I've bought 3 new ice box doors so far and its broken again the spares are a ridiculous price for the bit of plastic they are .

Have had this fridge for about 8 years. Its rubbish!!!!! Do not spend the £1000 (approx) they cost. Mine is black and looks very nice but do not be deceived like I was by this....that's where the positive points end. My freezer box door has broken and it will cost over £55 to replace, the door seal has been going for years and you have to buy a whole door unit for it which costs £266 plus vat because the seal does not come separately, which in my view is very poor design. For saying they cost so much I think you must be paying for the design and definitely not the quality....very over priced.

This fridge, while superficially cute in photos, is a piece of junk. the inside parts are mostly cheap plastic, and broke within a week, and now the main door gasket has peeled back so that it no longer forms a seal between the door and the fridge, which is a huge waste of energy and is also causing really quick frost buildup in the freezer. Don't buy this fridge!!

Bought a top of the range SMEG Fridge Freezer and have had nothing but problems with it. The SMEG recommended engineers are incredibly expensive.
Also have a SMEG washer / dryer which has been broken since the 4th January and I have been told today the parts will not be available until 4th March - are they joking!
I personally will not by SMEG again, (although my dishwasher and cooker are fine), as the reliability is a real issue and when something goes wrong - prepare yourself for major headaches!

Smeg Fab28 is a nice looking fashion fridge, but useless build. Door lining shelves can't take normal use, and no easy repair, have to buy new door at over £200. Ice box door bust, another expensive item. Serves me right for listening to the missus and going for looks instead of functionality

For such an expensive fridge I am very disappointed. The parts are flimsey and expensive to replace. Both our door seals have gone after 18 months wear and the only option is new doors which costs more than the fridge itself!!!

We purchased the Smeg Fab28 refrigerator because of its looks. We are now on our third fridge due to problems with the door seal going, which leaves the light on inside all the time. My third fridge has frozen up at the rear, and it then decided to defrost all over the kitchen floor! Another phone call to Smeg and another engineer call out! Probably another fridge too. Where will it end? Customer services are very helpful, but they can't make the product any better.

I have had the Smeg Fab28 fridge for 5 years, and it cost a fortune. I expected to have it for at least 15 - 20 years. Living in Ireland, it would cost 600 Euros for a new door and then the cost of fitting it. It would be cheaper to buy a new fridge.

Like other reviewers, I purchased this Smeg Fab28 Refrigerator on the basis that it looked great and had a large capacity. However, it is without doubt the worst purchase I have ever made. I have been plagued with problems such as the door seal going (you have to buy a whole new door at a cost of £300 plus labour to have this repaired!), the compressor going (another £200), permanently iced up freezer compartment and plastic egg holders etc...that crack with the slightest knock! If you were thinking of investing...don't!

Less than 3 years since I bought this Smeg Fab28 fridge, it is heading to the tip. It will have a sign on it, informing any passers by, not to buy a fridge of this type.
This is the most over-priced, unreliable electrical appliance I have ever purchased. Having spent nearly £900 I was expecting a quality product that was durable, reliable and most importantly fit for purpose. After 6 months, and considerable wastage of food items that had perished because of inadequate temperature control, I soon realised I had wasted my money.
After replacing the plastic trims that hold the shelves in place, earlier this year for a cost of circa £80, they have now cracked again. I have informed Smeg after-sales that there seems to be some major design flaws with this product, but as anticipated, no-one was interested.
My advice, please do not buy a Smeg FAB28 fridge.

Smeg Fab28 Fridge - I expected a product of this cost and supposed quality to be a good workhorse as an household refrigerator. However, since day one the fridge temperature was unresponsive to the controls and the lightbulb was replaced several times in the first 2 years, packing up altogether in month 25. Unsightly browning appeared around the door light activating control panel after a few months.
The panel finally blew after 26 months, with widespread blackening in this area.
SMEG have offered a derisory level of compensation for a now completely condemned appliance(by registered SMEG engineer); still ordered me to pay all callou charges. Is this indicative of all SMEG's products and after sales?

I have been considering downgrading my huge ancient Amana 3 door to a much smaller fridge - was considering the SMEG because I love the look, though the price seems expensive. SMEG e-mailed me info as to who would service their units over here in the U.S. - San Diego California area, and claim to<br/>have a very high quality product, with very few problems. This review and others make me think perhaps otherwise.

you are so right, my sister had one, and i was desperate to have one, what a mistake, bought from a company on eBay, that you bid on, cost 800 2 years ago, but my seal is going on the fridge and, there is only me using it, i have had fridges for years and the seal never goes, such a waste of money .
