The Mitsubishi Lancer evo VII 2.0 GSR is a great car with mind blowing performance and it will leave most cars for dead. It always turns heads and the handling is very good - it will just stick to the road all day no matter what the weather conditions. It only does 22 mpg and runs purely on super unleaded but I would recommend one if you had any spare money.

I love the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII GSR better than the Evo VIII FQ 430 because it has better styling and it sounds a lot sweeter, also it is a lot cheaper than the top-of-the-range Evo VIII as well, they are quite rare, but they do look brilliant.

“Mitsubishi Lancer evo VII 2.0 GSR Sports Car Review”

Mitsubishi Lancer evo VII 2.0 GSR Sports Car Review
I first saw an evo about 5 or 6 years ago, back then like most people I didn't have a clue what it was, but there was something about the way the car stood out that stuck in my mind.
Having always been into performance cars I naturally looked at the world beating impreza as the car to have. However the were one or two whispers of another jap supercar coming into the country, one that beat the scooby all ends up.
There were a few early evo's floating about but the Evo 4 was where Mitsubishi really came into their own right. The 4 was the first evo with active Yaw control, allowing the car to get round corners like it was on rails and the acceleration was rumoured to leave scooby's and cossie's for dead, though losing out to both on top end speed.

It was several years later that I first got behind the wheel for my first go.
A rather un-helpful salesman/owner had to be needled into allowing me near it and first we had to agree a price with him all but wanting a deposit before i'd even got into it. It was however worth the hassel. The performance is staggering and the grip is all that it's rumoured to be. In the end I decided not to buy it simply because of the salesman's attitude intially had left a bad taste in the mouth.

Another bad experiance in West Aukland Mitsubishi(Bishop Aukland) where the sales rep did'nt even get off his ass and come outside after i'd arranged a test drive left me wondering if all evo dealers were this arrogant.

6 months of looking about later I found a Evo specialist in Hexham(Near Newcastle). The first thing that struck me about the place when I got there was the friendly atmosphere from the staff and in particular, Rob the salesman who I'd spoken to on the phone. My price budget would stretch to the evo 6 but it was the more subtle Evo 7 I wanted. Luckily for me the boss was selling his red 7 and some hard barganing after the test drive we agreeded on £20,000.
Rob took the car through the town nice and gently to warm up the turbo which was a nice easy ride. I thought I knew what to expect having driven one before but the shock when he floored it in second gear on the slip road scared the hell out of me. I've been in some fast cars but this thing was unbeliable. The only way to describe it is like a jet taking off. The rev counter seemed to go through the red line in seconds.
The first thing I noticed when I drove it was how responsive the steering is, you can change direction so fast. There's no let up in the acceleration at all, and you run out of road before the cars even trying. Of course I bought it.

The Evo 7 is a real drivers car and everytime you get in it you grin like an idiot all journey. That was a year ago and since then i've had the car to its limit once or twice!! Its hard to beleive its only a 2.0 engine as i've raced Skyline's, M3's and even an M5 without too much hassle(though all 3 would probably catch me up on top speed). But it really is the handling of the car that is most impressive. These car's seem to have a constant supply of super glue on the wheels and the traction you get is phenomanal, you never feel out of control or on the edge.

On the downside, the running costs are high with fuel consumption averaging about 22mpg at best. Insurance is high(I'm 26 paying nearly £2000 with full ncb, no points or accidents) but thats what you expect with a group 20 car.
I have however had one or two problems with the car (transfer box and new gearbox already, has only done 18k), so the Red Zebra warranty is essential as it covers for everthing and include's breakdown cover. Even though its not really cost me anytinhg I am still considering something else less prone to mechanical failure, possibly a Type-R accord, but if its out-n-out thrills and street cred you want, the evo is certainly the best bet.
