“I bought one of the ViewSonic G220f monitors towards...”

★★★☆☆

written by Dark Storm on 01/06/2006

I bought one of the ViewSonic G220f monitors towards the end of March, 2005, for about £360 - £385 from Savastore.com (part of Watford Electronics). I phoned View Sonic up a couple of months later, to ask them how I can make the desktop icons text clearer in high res. Got no satisfaction.

Now that I have had the monitor for a year and two months it is starting to play up.

I moved the monitor (from my desk to a chest of drawers) as I was rearranging my room. Once everything was moved, I put it back.

Now, in the week that it has been in its new position it has done this twice:

It will suddenly make a loud click, go blank and at the top of the screen is a two inch thick white strobe effect bar. I turned the monitor off, and back on, and the display came back.

Also, I have had two speakers (cheap ones I bought at a computer fair years ago) next to the monitor, along with a reciever for my keyboard and mouse (I think it's radio?) These items have been next to the monitor since I bought it, with no problems. Now they are magnetizing the monitor, and the bottom portion (where the start bar is) has gone lovely shades of slight purple and green.

Also, if you own a PSP, DO NOT charge it anywhere near the monitor, I mean it. Sony won't have it that the PSP's transformer isn't shielded, but if you charge it near this monitor, expect the whole screen to be green and purple within 24 hours.

It takes days and days for the monitor to clear and you have to de guass it over and over again.
I wouldn't have another View Sonic monitor on principal now, simply because I have been treated like something they trod in.

If anyone knows how to get a refund on an item owned over a year, PLEASE state how by adding a comment to this review!!

Bozo Rubble's Response to Dark Storm's Review

Use the Credit Card strategy-pay with it and ask for an extended warranty (effectively doubles 1 yr warranty to 2 probably at an additional monthly charge$) from the credit issuer-then you have two years and an advocate to squeeze either of two things from the manufacturer- money or service. Then, to be totally cynical on the other hand, a badly fabricated product has no cure. Not a lot of attention has been paid to CRTs for several years in anticipation of the Plasmas-many CRTs being farmed out to the Koreans. This item may be one . On the flip side of quality....The Mitsubishi Diamond 21" was reviewed as a large window of high quality- in the upper price crust but $.

<br>Read your bit on the Concertina...liked the description. I play Hohner button boxes, but never a concertina. I have played harmonica as a professional band member for some years. Diatonic is my bag and I would love to hear your BASS concertina! You got any way to record and burn a CD? Best regards, bozo bebe rubblewise

Dark Storm's Response to Dark Storm's Review

Great - Although I managed to get View Sonic to change it over to the VX724 - a 17 inch monitor with a 4ms response time. The VX724 is a lovely monitor - the only complaint is that the base isn&#039;t attached at a dead flat - according to a spirit level (my desk is perfectly flat) and that the power connection is a little bad.
