Booked Two Nights In A Studio Apartment At The Val

Booked two nights in a studio apartment at the Valana Hotel for the Wine Festival, and visiting relatives.

On arrival ( 2.30 p.m.) the room had not been cleaned, or the bed linen changed, after the previous occupants had departed!

Complained at Reception, and within 5 mins. two maids appeared, cleaned the room and made up the beds.

Absolutely no storage space apart from a rickety wardrobe with no hangers. The tea making facility consisted of a kettle & one teacup!

To add insult to injury there was a (locked) communicating door to the next apartment which was paper thin, and you could clearly hear the conversation from next door.

After one night of trying to sleep on the rock hard beds, we gave up and returned to our house in Larnaca.

Cheap but not recommended.

I Was Lucky Enough To Be Staying In The Newer More

I was lucky enough to be staying in the newer more modern part of the accommodation, it appears this was far superior to the other block. The maid service was very frequent and they changed the beds and towels every two days, which was most welcome. Valana is situated just on the periphery of the tourist area which meant it was peaceful at night. The pool was large and relatively clean, with adequate sunbeds etc. A family run apartment block, not a hotel as stated. Good enough location and the family were friendly on the whole. My apartment was large and well maintained although the other older block was somewhat poorer in comparison. The pool side was in need of maintenance as the concrete slabs were in poor condition in places. Bar and menu prices were very expensive. Pool area was often very busy with locals which in combination with extremely loud music drove away the paying guests. It was clear the Valana appears to welcome the passing trade of locals, over paying guests. Poor customer service at times, staff failed to respond to complaints about excessive loud music on several occasions.

We Stayed At The Valana Hotel In Limassol. The Ma

We stayed at the Valana Hotel in Limassol. The maid service was very limited, and the bed sheets were not changed very often. The sun loungers and umbrellas were also limited. There were approximately 8 umbrellas for the whole of the hotel! The entertainment was non existent, and the pool was used by the locals on a daily basis, who consumed their own food and drink, despite notices clearly stating only food and drink to be purchased from the hotel.

A Pleasant Place Off-season That I Suspect Becomes

A pleasant place off-season that I suspect becomes overwhelmed with tourists during summer/autumn; Valana Hotel is set two blocks back from the main tourist drag. This makes is quieter but still in reach of bars, pubs, fast food, discos, souvenir shops, etc. The pool is lovely, but gets busy as the only beaches within walking distance are stony and not good for swimming. The food is cheap, but no vegetarian options and reminded me of Blackpool as it is primarily aimed at people in their 50s (prawn cocktail or egg mayo, beef stew or roast chicken, jelly and ice-cream or watermelon). Entertainment nightly, like karaoke, line-dancing, Greek dancers, singers, etc. Self catering means buying your own loo-roll, and cooking on a tiny two ring electric hob with minimal equipment. However it was friendly, clean and good value for money. Care hire particularly good value in low season, so make sure to go see the mosaics in paphos. Restaurants by castle in old Limassol fantastic.
