I moved house recently and was told by my landlord that the flat was already signed up with Powergen and all I needed to do was to ring up the electricity company and tell them that I had moved in.
It looks extremely easy and simple. However, if you go onto their web site, it is impossible to leave your details saying that you are a new tenant.
Plus, you'd think it'd be easier to ring and explain the situation on the phone. But all you get is one of those machine you have to talk to but which don't talk to you. I was no step further ahead than before as there was no dialling option for registering new tenants. I thought it'd be pointless signing up for a new contract as I bet I'll be getting two different bills and it'll be a hassle to call them up and explain everything again, especially since it's only a machine you'll be talking to.

Okay, so I decided to dump Powergen as my own home supplier and go through LloydsTSB (considerable, and I mean considerable, savings). Have always kept tabs on meter reading/bills. If I was getting behind in what I paid compared to what I use, or ahead - I'd either offer to increase direct debits or ask for a cheque back. Powergen still wanted a final bill I cannot explain of £125. I've paid it as I do not want the hassle of Court action, but I still believe I've been robbed! As a landlord I have equally found them a nightmare. Tried to put a tenant's outstanding bill in my name! Took over a service from British Gas in my name without my authority! Both utilities now firmly in the hands of British Gas!! When you finally get through on the phone it can be to a call centre in India. Telephone operatives have perfect English but zero understanding of problems.
<br>I had a nightmare last night. I dreamed all my utilities went back to Powergen . . . aaagh!
