“Please speak slowly”

★★★☆☆

written by fnDaugherty166 on 23/05/2023

Some of the members of the cast could do much more for their character, and the sometimes bewildered viewer if they would please just slow down! They gabble the script too quickly and nothing is making much sense. If they have learnt the lines, please make the effort to speak them clearly. I believe it is the director's job is to get the best out of the script and the actors, so it's not all their fault, and if Rita, played by Barbara Knox could just take over as director for an episode with the younger players, she would show them how to act, and act them off the screen, her enunciation is always perfect.

“Still pushing the Cashless Agenda! ”

★★★☆☆

written by AmateurAstronomer on 22/03/2023

It was really irritating to see Evelyn paying in Dev's shop by card! In real life, that would have been unlikely, and not fitting her character! Showing that is so unnecessary, but of course it is Part of pushing the Cashless Agenda!

“For the future”

★★★☆☆

written by IARMCS on 08/03/2023

I think Coronation Street needs more of a balance. At the moment promoting anti male storylines to the point of misandry. Male charactars never shown in a positive light. A shame because I have watched since 1970 and have got many happy memories and it is still capable of flashes of the old humour. Just be even handed and yes be up to date but in a nuanced way.

I agree, you don't see a female villain! At the same time, the men are always made to look like buffoons, especially ones like Steve, Tim, Peter, and others, all made to look stupid by their wives, girlfriends, or sisters and daughters, etc!

The woman are always hen - pecking the men, all the time!

Mind you, the men in Coronation Street have always been made to look like buffoons, who are constantly being held - pecked by their women!

Steve, Tim, and George, for example, come to mind!

Really feel this character's time on the Show should be terminated quite violently! He has a most irritating voice and really is a poor actor.

Most of the people in Corrie would never survive in the real world, unless they knew how to fiddle the welfare system that is,Stephen certainly wouldn,t,his scam,s are so stupid he would be caught out very quickly. I wish they would give us a feel good night where all the obnoxious characters are wiped out ,in great detail and we can go to bed happy.

“Children”

★★★☆☆

written by Dhomhna on 15/02/2023

I cannot for the life of me understand what had happened to the writers .Did they all fall on their heads? What parent would allow ‘their child to ask him/her to leave his own house? As for Leanne she agreed? I have asked my friends about this and they all agree it wouldn’t happen in their houses.! This does not set a good example to children watching… Could the writers show some children with good manners ? Children see and hear therefore believe that all children are like that!! Some humour and nice things please…

“Hanging on too long to boring story lines”

★★★☆☆

written by WillowMacPherson on 03/11/2022

I have watched Corrie for decades. But, the past few years the quality of the script, themes and characters has gone down hill.Plots are too long, drawnout, to the point of boring and predictable. Now Summer's pregnant and going to sell her baby to pay for Aaron's dad treatment? Don't tell me, the purchasing couple are baby-traffickers? I never watch Eastenders, but I would imagine some plots mimic other soaps closely. Dragging out the Audrey/Stephen plot too, is getting boring. Get some sharp quality back in the show, or you'll be losing more viewers. And Corrie is a British mainstay!Keep it sharp and poignant.

“The prolonged departure of Kelly Neelan. Yaaawn”

★★★☆☆

written by Sethk268 on 23/09/2022

I thought Kelly Neelan was never going to leave ...the storyline tonight wasn't exciting...as it could have been. The long conversation with Gary at the end...bored me to tears. When Kelly finally walked off...it was a relief. Storyline could have Bern more exciting. As if killers would hang around so long....they'd do their job pronto. Unrealistic. Storyline started off good. Too prolonged. Kelly was in it too much & Gary.

Corrie, just like all the other soaps,is guilty of having too many long, drawn out, story lines, many of which are not only implausible and rubbish, but also really boring,in Corrie we have the Bailey family, the Alahans plus a few more that need to go,not only are they boring, some of them are lousy actors,.I'm thinking Corrie may have run it,s course,it definitely needs sorting out.

“Too unrealistic? ”

★★★☆☆

written by Crockettpb490 on 07/09/2022

Coronation Street for its first 50 years was a show that was groundbreaking television. Portrayed the realism of northern working class and relatable characters that kept you hook for days. The thing that is holding it back and making the show worse is being too unrealistic in its approach. From the flashbacks, hallucinations and ridiculous sound design, it’s trying to keep up with the popular shows that the producers think younger audiences like. Well... the result is laughable and cringeworthy. Why not take reference from 2007 when the show was watchable and realistic. I haven’t watched it in nearly a year, aside from the odd clips on YouTube and the quality has got worse and worse. Did I also mention the chaotic episodes from epic floods to heists and serial killers. The show really needs to take a rest now and restart to a new audience, or get rid off the current writing team and bring people who know how to write realism.

As I have said before it now appears to be a children's programme, with so many storylines involving the far too many children and young adults. Noone can convince me that teenage children watch mainstream television in general and Coronation Street in particular. I only watch it as I have done since the early black and white days and there is absolutely no comparison with the Classic episodes of some 20 years ago. The recent death of Alma for example was truly realistic and really quite moving.

“What's going on?”

★★★☆☆

written by Imokenzie on 02/07/2022

I skip in from work daily to watch classic Corrie on catch-up, then feel obliged to watch the newest current Corrie episode. What's going on? Corrie today is difficult to watch, woke to the point if painful...investment in characters we don't like let alone care about what happens to them. Writers, look back to what made Corrie successful, no, actually put your recorders on and 'tape' classic Corrie and you'll see what made Corrie great !

Trolleybus654's Response to Imokenzie's Review

Absolutely. Classic Coronation Street continues to be watchable and you wonder when it all went wrong. One problem with the current rubbish is that a storyline seems to go away and then comes back many episodes later, whereas the classic ones tend to see it through. I only watch the current ones having watched it since the early days but the storylines are completely ridiculous. As I have said before why do so many storylines involve teenage children - noone can tell me that children of this age watch mainstream television.

“Storylines are unbelievable”

★★★☆☆

written by Hensley326 on 15/12/2021

Hi, American soaps are ridiculous so that’s why I’ve watched Corrie here in Canada since day one! Now it’s getting so silly with the ‘sinkhole’ story, Abby is ridiculous, Kelly’s false eyelashes and perfectly clean clothes living on the streets…gangsters galore….that reminds me of the American soap actress who had a hysterectomy and gave birth to twins the following year!!!!! Get rid of Grace’s storyline. Enough! Aggie is too strong a woman to put up with this! C’mon, get back to the heartwarming stories, intelligent people and real life situations. It’s time to re-dress the cafe look as it doesn’t need to look like Roy’s era. And it makes NO sense to leave the operations of a busy cafe to a teenager (?). Your viewers deserve respect.

“Me and you”

★★★☆☆

written by BromBrom on 19/11/2021

"Me and you could seriously fall out" quote Coronation Street character Daniel Barlow, Oxford English graduate, teacher and also brother to character Adam Barlow, who's a solicitor. Watching Corrie regularly, we accept that poor grammar can be part of Corrie script, but........come on, YOU AND I cannot believe that Daniel would speak in such a manner?! Lets have more realistic script, with refreshing variety in the characters!

“APPALLING ACTING ”

★★★☆☆

written by AnabellaMay296 on 20/10/2021

Corrie brought us loads of drama on Mondays episode 18/10/21. Far fetched but nonetheless exciting and gripping mostly.I say mostly unfortunately, because the constant changing of dramatic scenes emphasised fabulous acting and poor acting. The dramatic scenes involving Abbie and Corey was brilliant and believable, but the aftermath after the car crash was poor. The horror of being trapped in a smoking car about to burst into flames is unimaginable, yet sadly the actors interpretation of being in such a horrific situation lacked believability, which is a shame as having watched Corrie for many years I have observed far better acting from these characters.

“Very Dark Storylines ”

★★★☆☆

written by Youngnic on 16/09/2021

I have stopped watching all the Soaps not just Corrie over the the 5 to 6 years they are all getting very dark storylines. Nothing is worth watching anymore and definitely no happy stories or no happy endings like they should to be in the day. When I have watched the old classic soaps they had hardly had any bullying, racist, killing each other or beaten each other up. What has gone wrong guys? It's all down hill very fast and it's still going that way. I've seen few other reviews about all the soaps a lot are saying scrap each one of them and they are all getting very very very boring and getting very very very silly storylines as you would think school kids had written them all not by adults. That is why I've stopped watching them a long time ago. To this day I won't watch any of them again.

“Is it just me”

★★★☆☆

written by TonyHamilton on 15/09/2021

Is it just me or does anyone else find Imran's obsession with Kelly bordering on the creepy? Is it real feasible that a foster parent would be allowed to defend his foster child? For all his " hard work" and sleepless nights he put very little evidence which wasn't obvious in her defence. This story line has turned my stomach with Imran's latent weird attraction to the cold whining unpleasant Kelly (who was a party to Sebs murder) . I bet she gets off with another ridiculous twist in this story. A pity because Abi's brilliant acting and performance deserves so much better.

“Busiest beat cop ever”

★★★☆☆

written by ClaySheridan on 12/08/2021

I'm a real Corrie fan and have been watching it forever but some of the recent episodes have become a little silly. Craig has gone from trainee policeman to doing things way above his job title and he must be constantly on duty on his own! There's a lot of over acting from the youngsters in general. Keep it real please.

“FIZ NEEDS BOOTING OUT”

★★★☆☆

written by Mpolites on 21/07/2021

Have the writers forgotten that Jack willed that house to TYRONE not Fiz? This pettiness of using the girls to lash out at Ty is bordering on child abuse. So Pathetic....come writers stop making him the perpetrator just because he fell out of love with a dumpy complacent whiner!

“Direction of travel”

★★★☆☆

written by 184McCaffrey on 15/07/2021

Coronation Street is still well worth a watch but political correctness does seem excessive. Really good that gay characters are included but surely there are now an excessive number compared to the general population. Also on the calendar shoot surely this is a bit sexist. Wouldn't it have been better to have 6 male and 6 female characters. Seems there is a deep seated need among the scriptwriters to treat men as jokes and stupid when both sexes frequently are. Lets have a bit more fair mindedness and real equality

Frmarcus's Comment

The calendar storyline's been panned as hackneyed, having been done by other soaps. I know the pandemic entail some CS storyline changes - but it's incomprehensible how awful it's become: rammed with kids, and obsessively woke. I can't imagine why the middle-aged-plus would watch it...
