I Have Owned Two Of These Sony D-fj61 Discmans, I
I have owned two of these Sony D-FJ61 Discmans, I bought a second because i loved the first one so much. I had a Panasonic Shockwave with MP3, but it wasn't loud enough. It is a beautiful looking, beautiful sounding, and a durable piece of equipment. I like my music loud and this cd player delivers. I got just what i wanted: people complaining my music was too loud. I don't care what they say though. It has a simple, basic design, which i like. At first, I couldnt find how to turn on the volume limiter (AVLS, to stop me blasting in class), but I found the switch under the battery lid. Also, there's the reason I had to buy a new one: the headphone jack, like all sony audio players, disconnects from the mainboard and the discman plays through one ear only. Its happened on my second one as well, but I bought a mono adapter for my headphones, so the same sound comes out of both speakers: much less annoying. Other than that, I love it to death, and I use it a lot. I use it about 3 hours a day, and I havent replaced the batteries in three weeks. It's still on three bars too. I highly recommend it.
PS-The radio is a lifesaver on bad bus rides with low batteries(only had that scenario once, but never again)

Words Are Failing Me. The Sony D-fj61 Is Probably
Words are failing me. The Sony D-FJ61 is probably the best audio product I've ever had the pleasure of owning.
It is indestructible - I dropped it on purpose from shoulder height onto hardwood floors while playing a CD - twice (after reading reviews of it's durability, figured I'd try it out while the warrantee was good). First time, nothing. Second time the battery door opened and the batteries fell out. That was the absolute worst damage - I had to re-program the tuner presets and it forgot where to restart on the CD (did I mention that it remembers *exactly* where it was playing on the CD when you switch to tuner or turn it off?).
Since then I've dropped it a couple more times - only when I wasn't using the included wrist strap - with no damage whatsoever. The unit is so compact it will fit in your front jeans pocket - the volume button is situated where you can position it to face up when in your pocket making it's really easy to adjust the volume.
Get yourself a pair of Sony MDR-EX71SL earbud headphones & a Headroom headphone amplifier (Google It!) and you'll have the last portable stereo system you'll ever need!
One more thing - you'll never have to remove the batteries if you use NiMh (2 'AA') and charge them with the included AC/DC converter - which can also be used to power the unit while in use domestically.
