If all you want is a portable CD player this is fine. If you want to create Atrac3plus CD's (i.e. 30 compressed onto one) the software you get with the player, or the later version 2.0 downloaded from Sony (Sonicstage)is very poor; but there's no alternative available. Unless you have the software pre-installed on a Sony laptop you have no means to create MP3 CD's so you need to obtain alternative software (try iTunes free from Apple. I've started preparing for a compressed MP3 CD, but not actually done it yet). Problems with the software (and its documentation)result in many hours of copying CD's, then produce numerous unreadable CD's. Forget trying to use CD-RW's - the s/w just does not recognise them.
