We bought our Mini Cooper new in 2004, and it proved to be a great little car. Having also driven the updated version I personally think that the older one is better. We never had any problems with it, but I wish we'd bought the Cooper S as our standard Cooper (115bhp) wasn't all that fast. Also I'd recommend buying one with the sunroof as it makes the interior brighter and less claustrophobic. There was an issue with the early Cooper pulling to the left, ours did it very slightly but the dealer denied all knowledge of the problem, despite the fact that BMW issued a suspension modification to cure it. Typical of car dealers though in my experience. The Mini handled well and seemed nicely put together. It looked good and the interior was nice (ours had the optional "chrome line interior pack") There are thousands of these early "New" Minis around now and I'd seriously consider one if I was looking for a small car, but I'd go for the supercharged version.

i have had my mini cooper for six months and luv it ive had loads of retro cars from gti's to xr's and gte and find the mini to be spacious reliable and quick off the mark u get what u pay for mine cost 6000 with 62000 miles on the clock and it hasnt let me down it has asphetic looks and will be a future classic im sure and i have owned a few original mini's incl a 60's clubman estate and loved that and when u have owned cars like a " porshe " u cant expect a car that costs twenty grand to perform like a real sports car but u can still get the same thrill behind the wheel. and drive safe on the roads and no tyre kicking

I bought my mini cooper 1.6 automatic after my peugeot died. I absolutely love my mini more than any other car I have owned. It is clearly very well built with quality materials. It is surprisingly spacious inside (the only part that is small is the boot). It drives beautifully - better than any other auto supermini that I test drove. I can't imagine switiching to another car other than a new mini cooper.

I have owned a Mini Cooper for 4 years now. It came to me 3 years old and with 11,000 miles on the clock. I traded in a family BMW 2000 for it and I love it. I choose to write now following a rear ending accident. The other driver was traveling approx 40 miles per hour, me and the traffic in front around 10 miles an hour. She pushed me off the road and I expected loads and loads of damage. Witness and police stopped; externally there appears to be only 2 scratches below the bumper. The safety foam obviously now ruined, me with mild whiplash, sore shoulder, presumably from the seat belt, also a sore right hip again from me braking. I have to wonder how this would relate to a different car of a similar size. As a driver, mother of 3 children, mother to a further 2, wife, full time worker I will be forever grateful to my Mini Cooper and honestly feel I will now drive nothing else!

I love my Mini Cooper! I had a Mini One previously which was also good fun to drive but I decided to spoil myself.
A very nippy car for city driving or around country lanes, grips the road well.
Drove to Italy in my Mini One and have just got back from the Netherlands in my Cooper and no problems on either trip: an enjoyable and fun drive!
Mini also do trips (see above) arranged around race tracks to give you opportunity to take it on the track, test out the run flat tyres and watch the stunt drivers show you what the Mini is capable of.
The Mini estate looks to be really cool......I can't wait!

My Mini Cooper 1.6 16V is fast, fun, chili red with white roof and mirrors, 32 mpg, and reliable! Everyone should drive one! Can't wait to get the Traveller Wagon coming out 2008.

My Mini Cooper is over three years old now and still drives like new. It is ideal for parking around town, doesn't feel too small on the motorway and ignores the petrol pumps for a great deal of the time. I have had the odd problem with it, but, the garage has fixed it, if ever I have been worried, I can't remember what the problems were now, I think the tyre pressure warning light has come on a few times and I haven't known how to deal with it. There was a time when pulling away at a junction, when the engine was cold, was a bit hairy, the car developed a 'flat spot', but they put that right asap. The biggest problem at the moment is that the 'pin' holding the lid on the ashtray has come out and they want £12 for a new ashtray with a lid. My husband has fixed it for free with a new 'pin'. So, to sum up, the best car I have ever had and I have been driving since 1967, my first car was a Mini 850 in 1968, the only thing they have in common is the fun factor. The difference is, on the old Mini 850, 50mph felt like breaking the sound barrier, on this one you hardly notice the car is moving. The other problem is everyone prefers my car to their own!

Never have I driven a car that holds the road like a Mini Cooper, my BMW Mini Cooper 1.6 16V City Car is styliish, fun, a head turner and a very well built car, this is another good review, you will notice that there is not one bad review about this car. Granted there were some early production gremlins but these have all been ironed out.
The resale value is second to none and at present you can be sure to get all your money back from a private sale in the first year. 10/10

My wife bought a brand new Mini Cooper (2009) a month ago. I thought i give a review to buyers who have kids, and are trying to work out if the car would be practical. This is a 2nd car for us, but pretty much a run-a-round for the wife and 2 kids. The pro's are: Its looks absolutely fantastic (try and get the chilli pack and 17" flame alloys), quite nippy (please bear in mind its only a 1.6, so don't expect Skyline type performance), very roomy for both front passengers and perfect for kids (we have a 9 and 6 year old) and that's included child seats), handling is superb, very economical and build quality is excellent, i.e heavy doors, etc. The againsts are: sound system not the best (think i should have opted for upgrade system), also not the greatest fan of the interior layout (but i think its def an aquired taste) and the boot space (very limited), hence our first car is bigger. But overall an excellent car, that looks good, performs good, and can be used as a family car too, obviously minus the boot space (but then again my kids dont require pushchairs, etc).
Hope this provides some help to any potential buyer out there.

Well i'll first start by introducing my own car. I got my Mini Cooper from a used car trader for £10,500 Feb 2005. I follow the Mini Club status well and am a member of a few clubs. So my Mini's a bit special it's been superchipped, front strut brace fitted (improves handling), Air filter, and some other bits.
I must say when I first got my BMW mini I was over the moon with it. It was everything i wanted though I thought it wasn't as quick as I'd like it. I loved driving it and feeling a bit special in this car.
My models a early 2001 model and the only problem I have had is my seats do not move forward when I press the lever that is all. I must say when I paid 10k for my Mini I thought the stereo would have been better the tape player provided was terrible and the sound was very bad. I later bought a after market stereo to fix this.
The minis handling is said to be amazing. I drive my car to the limits and found that the Mini wasnt coping as well as i thought it would. The handling is superb but to really get the most out of your Mini handling I recommend a strut brace. With the strut brace my Mini handles like a dream.
The power of the standard Cooper is quite good the sport feel over the one though can not be told much unless driving on motorways. With a superchip and air filter however the Coopers speed rockets my car has kept up with a S before and I'm sure I save more fuel.
The inside of the car is another strong point of the mini. The controls are laid out well in a unique style that makes the Mini seem like a whole different car.
A lot of people have complained about the back seats. Now the minis back seats are not to bad to sit in but like stated there is not much room in the back at all. I'm 6ft 2in and no one can get behind my seat to sit. Which is unfortunate but its best to think of the Mini as a 3 seater more than a 4. The boot space is also very tiny which could be a problem for some. But with the back seats down room in the Mini is a lot lot bigger.
These cars are now dropping in price as the new models come out. I really recommend the BMW Mini Cooper and after owning one nearly a year im still loving every minute of it.

I've had one of these for a couple of years now. The major downside is the fuel economy, which is lousy - rarely better than 30mpg. It is also very noisy at speeds of over 70mph.
Roadholding, acceleration, handling are all excellent, and it is quite a headturner, although less so now that quite a few people have one. The boot is rubbish of course, but on the plus side it seats four adults in comfort.
