“Complete nonsense”

★☆☆☆☆

written by HonestOne on 01/09/2011

Right, here we go, let us investigate the claims of magnetic fuel savers and their basis in science shall we: 1. Fuel is 'aligned' by the magnets No, it just isn't. hydrocarbon fuels (all of them) are non-magnetic and non-conductive, which limits a magnet's influence on them to the diamagnetic effect, which is weak to the point of being unobservable. Even IF this force was strong enough to produce detectable effects (which it isn't) it would only introduce a tendancy for the fuel molecules to flow away from the magnets, not align them in any way. 2. 'Hydrocarbon chains are broken down' Magnets cannot affect the molecular structure of hydrocarbon fuels, or any non-magnetic and non-conductive material for that matter. 3. Magnetic fuel systems were used by the RAF in WW2. I actually happen to be a pilot in the RAF and I can tell you that this claim is absolute rubbish. Do you not think if we'd figured this one out all those years ago we'd just have stopped bothering to use it? As it happens we kinda like fuel economy as it means we have to ship less of it around. The British Armed Forces do not use this device and never have, that is a fact. And now even assuming that the above is true: 4. Shorter hydrocarbons burn with more energy. Yes, they do, VERY VERY VERY slightly more energy. Nothing even close to a percentage point here. This would produce no observable effect. 5. Fuel burns faster Great, and that will see significant LOSSES in power and economy unless the ignition timing is adjusted to compensate, and you'll be handing your local tuning garage about £400 for an engine remap to achieve that. 6. Fuel burns more completely Any car made in the last 20 years will burn over 98% (higher in most cases) of fuel that enters the cylinders, so even with magical perfect burning efficiency how is that ever going to produce more than 2% efficiency increase? So to conclude, the science that these things are based on is pure fiction, none of it stands up to even basic scientific scrutiny. what's more, despite contacting many manufacturers, including this one (they did not respond) requesting the studies they so love to quote, I have yet to see a shred of data. Strangely, there are reams of data from many reputable car and review bodies that have tested these products, and they all seem to share my opinion. Please do not waste your money on this, it is a scam and i think it's disgraceful that these con-artists aren't behind bars. Thank you for reading

Hello Honest One. Just read your review. Have you ever tried one of these devices? I ask as others who are soooo negative get hung up on the science and don't bother to actually look for themselves.

I've been using these things for years. If correctly fitted, they are effective.

“This product does not work and has never been...”

This product does not work and has never been successfully verified in a proper double blind placebo controlled peer reviewed trial. In order to alter the atomic structure of matter you need a huge magnet, in the order of 5T, for a static magnet, like those used in the EcoFlow products, that equates to a magnet weighing about 100 tons! Once the liquid has passed through the magnetic field the effects are not observed anymore and the atomic structure reverts back to the default state. Therefore, by the time the liquid has passed the magnet and entered the combustion chamber it is unlikely to be in any different state than it would be if the EcoFlow wasnt there! The is a complete waste of money, the only effect when used is placebo! You know you have the device fitted so you drive differently than when it isn't.

I found this review not helpful because...........

The writer does not know what they are talking about.

The treatment of fuel with magnets has been around since the second world war. Do some research.

The Ecoflow products carry a Full 100% money back guarantee and if they did not work everyone who bought one would be entitled to a refund and if everyone had that, the company would not be able to keep on trading. It is still thriving with no borrowings.

Comment on Fuel Ionizers

Some people get very wound up over whether this science works or not. It is effective, but you must always fit the most powerful device the fuel feed pipe will conveniently accommodate: there can never be too much magnetism but too little will be ineffective. For instance, fast and luxurious has eleven magnets of varying sizes because it has two fuel systems (LPG and petrol). One of the magnets is sold as a domestic lime scale inhibitor: same ionization technology.

So what do you do? Will it; won't it? Trial and error. Buy a good quality product that has good reviews. If a review is violently negative, ask whether the reviewer has actually used the product. It is possible to make your own – mostly they're neodymium magnets in plastic cases but magnets secured with gaffer tape would probably have the same effect. Don't fit to braided metal pipes as the braiding disrupts the magnetic field.

Keep them clear of any electronics in case of interference. Use them on your gas or oil-fired central heating; as lime scale inhibitors; on any internal combustion engine and to make a bottle of cheap plonk taste better – yes, really! They'll also help with your aches and pains by acting on your blood.
My Uncle is a scientist. I gave him a device to use on his cooker which is powered by tanked gas. He got very cross, telling me how it 'couldn't possibly work.' I said, 'OK, if you don't want it, give it back.' That was several years ago. We don't speak about it. As far as I know the device is still on his gas pipe. 'Nuff said?

Honestone's Response to jhunsley's Review

This review is essentially correct. Hydrocarbon fuels are not magnetic and non-conductive, so the only possible influence a magnet could exert on them is the phenominally weak 'diamagnetic effect'. Even if this was strong enough to cause observable effects (which it isn't) all it would do is cause a tendancy for the fuel to move away from the magnets. Magnets simply cannot influence the alignment of fuel molecules or change their molecular structure. They just can't. The science quoted in the marketing for these products is utterly utterly fake, the best thing you can do with these things is use them as fridge magnets.

I found this review not helpful because the reviewer states a lot of 'science' with the air of a technical expert, but doesn't say whether he's made any tests himself. This is a review site, not a 'science' course. There are a lot of products out there which work well, but don't have scientific backing because the research hasn't been done yet. His 'science' is all unproven theories. Let's see facts!

Nola Edmonds's Response to jhunsley's Review

I found this review not helpful because the British Dept of Trade & Industry trialled the Ecoflow at its environmental testing laboratory, on a car and a truck over 12,000 miles with positive results as follows:
Power increase 11.19%
Fuel consumption down 11.05%
Emissions: Carbon Monoxide down 14.99%
Hydrocarbons down 24.42%
Carbon Dioxide down 10.67%
NOX down 12.88%
NO down 15.49%
Particulate Smoke from Diesel down 15%
Laboratory tests of ECOFLOW on a Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6 showed an average fuel improvement of 7.03% increasing to 11.05%, and a power increase of 9.52% increasing to 11.19%.
