All in all you get what you pay for. But for a cheepie the PC Chips M810 Motherboard is generaly a goodie. Out of the bunch most are still in use started with a duron 1200 (900mhz actual) through 2000 (1300mhz actual) out of 94 units 50 are still in use that i know of, to satisfide coustomers, 10 came back and were upgraded with a more expencive bord and a killer chip (real athalon 2100 or faster latest one a 3200) 4 were brought back in the first month for a refund and re sold as used at a fair price. They as far as i know are still in use. Several countles ones have come back for memory upgrades, a second hard drive and stuff like that. of the five that had problems and ran 3 went to a church school and are used by kids every day, 1 i gave to a friend to play with linux on and one is righting this review right now and keeping my books. The doa went back to the wholesaler and was replaced and is waiting to be built into a cheep box for someone who wants something sure enough cheep. All in all I have had fewer problems with thease than certin epox and msi bords. Here are the specks acording to win tune.

Seems to me a couple of years ago you'da spent a couple of grand for less performance than that.
Understand
1 this is a bottom of the stack machien
2 it is the cheepest thing made 300$ or less to build
3 you get what you pay for , unless you pay a grand or so for one of thease, sold one on e bay for $926.00 plus shipping. I should have taken their money stupid me i let them have it for 500 still tooomuch but they were happy.

Okay, here's the low down on this board. PC Chips (A.k.a Amptron, a.k.a. PC 266 and many more) is a generic company. You're getting what you pay for. Basically this board was designed with the purpose for mom & pop computer shops to produce a decently spec'd machine for under $250 to sell for about $350. Unfortunately, PC Chips being cheap as hell in order to supply us with a board this cheap uses subpar parts. Basically, the board doesn't have what it takes to be a good board. Your common problems with it will be conflicts with video cards and processors, incapable RAM, and lock ups. The AGP slot problem is so bad it's deserving of special attention. This board is VERY picky about which cards it will use and why. In many instances changing to AGP 1X or 2X on the baord will resolve some issues. The board is also very nit picky about Powered By ATI cards made by third parties. ATI cards themselves typically work, to some extent. Lastly many, of these boards had one big boo-boo in the onboard sound. They reverse soldered the leads in the mic jack, meaning only stereo compatable mics will work, without a bit of splicing with the right wires. But those are the problems you're likely to encounter. Some of this is prone from cheap capacitors to lack of chipset cooling, to poor chipset placement. Really, this is a board to buy for Grandma so she can e-mail and send pictures. Don't expect much else from it. What this board can do and what it's capable of varies from revision to revision and in some instances from board to board. Any chance of over clocking this board is slim and limited to the voltage route. And for those of you looking for TV out from the onboard video (as implied in some places) are going to be dissapointed. Though the capability is IN the chipset, it requires a special daughter-type of card that no one (SiS, PC Chips, a third party) has bothered to produce, and with the board's quality it's not shocking. This is not the saving grace a lot of people have thought it to be. The sad part is that this board is still on the market. Some revisions even include a soldered on OC'd Duron, and one has RAM solder in. if you're looking for a cheap AMD board, this'll work for e-mail and surfing as well as workstation applications. A home user looking for movies, music and Games is better off going the lines of Asus, or another well reputible company. If you already have this board and need solutions give google a search with "m810", and you'll grab up some nifty resources on how to fix the problems you probably are having. Then again, some fixes only work on some board, and other only on certain revisions. I hear the modem work rather well, though I've never tested it myself. If you want counter strike, MP3's, and chatting, it'll do you. If you want GTA3, DiVx, and voice chat, look elsewhere. Besides, DDR boards and chips aren't running much more expensive, these days.

It's a cheap one so the expectation should not be high. I bought it 3 years ago for $400. System stability is fine unless you try some overlocking. I changed the heat sink and CPU fan just recently because it's too noisy. Bios battery may need a change also because it can't remember the IDE setup sometimes. Overall, it's a good trade-off between money and performance and quality.

you can buy a full duron 1.1ghz system for around $600aud which is cheap, but the overall power is weak, can play quake2 with 30fps on 64mb mode, it only has 2 pci slots and 1 agp 4x, and the agp is kinda useless anyway. Not bad if you only want to use it for the net and starcraft or other 2D games

This motherboard runs ok with the video cards tested inside but when ya put anything in newer with a bit more power it crashes big time, I have tried several geforce 4 cards and get the same problem everytime. Yeah the sound and modem are basic but they do there job without much hassle.

I don´t understand the problem! I can´t to keep my PC without break! I can´t play or anything for a long time 'coz my PC freeze!

I did bios Update and i put Win XP Pro W/ SP1!

Damsel in distress would really appreciate some feedback. Yesterday, i purchased a tower, M810 mainboard replete with an AMD Athlon chip. The seller claims it's a 2 gig cpu chip but after sourcing the net, i'm getting mixed messages as to whether this is actually a 1.6 gig or a 2. The sites were vague and contrary at best. Here's what it says on the chip: AMD Athlon AX2000DMT3C.
One site claimed this particular is aka an XP 2000. What do i have here? After assembling everything, turned out the power supply was a 180 watt max. Apparently running an Athlon chip requires a base minimum of 200 watt PS. Here i sit dead in the water until i drive a considerable distance to secure the correct ps.
Is there anyone out there running that particular board and cpu? I would be interested to learn of the pros and cons and any other pertinent info. Please e-mail me at: [email protected] Thanks!

I just bought the M810L V9.0M and don't have the problems you all have expressed. I run a GeForce4 MX 440 dual-head (dual-VGA) video card on it and it runs QUICK. I have yet to have a lockup or anything.

I will note though that I originally tried to install Win98SE. The whole system wasn't very fast... especially my video (slow and jerky). Diags from Nvidia said it was AGP operating in PCI mode (1/2 AGP 1x speed?). Anyhow, wiped it away and installed WinXP Pro w/ SP1 and now it reads AGP 4x and screams!

For $110US it was a great deal (Duron 1800+, 256MB RAM, 10/100LAN, sound, AMR modem, and onboard video).

Nice huge step up from my dual 400MHz P2 system.

PS: I also installed a Promise IDE controller (I have tons of drives - Zip250/LS-120/CD-RW/DVD/HD/HD) and a FireWire card (for digital camcorder and external portable drive).

The problem is actually to do with the pulse-width modulation circuitry (PWMC) on this board. The implementation of this board's PMWC which deals adjustable voltage supply to the AGP card on the 3.3 V line is incompatible with the Geforce cards power unit, meaning less power is supplied than needed, hence it just freezes, doesn't start etc. It is just plain frustrating. I know coz I have two of these boards! Just don't try using nVidia and most geforce cards on this board. Or alternatively, switch to a PCI card.

I recently (January 2003) bought this mobo from a local store. My budget at this time was very limited and finally that was the reason for buying this motherboard. Apparently the board is a never version: the label on the CPU fan says "Duron 1300 Pro". Yes, I know this is a fake, but at least, the real speed reported by various test programs rounds 950 Mhz, not 850. I have several video cards with different chipsets. With Nvidia I don't have any problems: I put on the agp socket a TNT(Creative) and a TNT2(Power Color), and both runs fine. I then installed a pci Radeon 7200 (oem) and again run with no crashes. Only one card failed(an agp Voodoo Banshee by Creative): system boot, but with drivers installed there are mayor graphic corruption in 2D GUI. Various forums have reports of total incompatibility (no boot) between S3 graphic chipsets (Savage 4, 2000) and this mobo
written by Whathisface. on 23/02/2003
Does this board support a GeForce 4 because it's nearly impossible find any of the cards they have tested and anyway TNT2 wouldn't really give me top performance. Please Email me with any info at [email protected]

I was under no illusions about this board. Pcchips are generally known as the worst of the worst, and their support site looks as if it was designed by an astute monkey. I got it because I wanted to install a multibooting server system. So sound not important and I shoved my spare geforce card in it. Modem just a ras accessory. General performance has been surprisingly good. Decent ide performance. I flashed the bios and updated drivers as soon as I got it, so i don't know what its 'in the box' condition was like. I have heard it doesn't work with a number of video cards but it has worked with a radeon 7200 and a geforce 2 gts. Apparently there are problems with voodoo cards but i have yet to test that. Also the cmos jumper is set to clear by default. Thought it was dead until I read the manual! i'm sure that caught some out! Good motherboard for under £50 with integrated everything

This m810 will not run a xp1600+ you have to drop it to 1050
Written on: 21/01/2003
Well are you sure you have your bus speed in the cmos set up correctly? I did the same thing and was only getting 1050 mhz, because i had the bus speed set to 100mhz, try changing your bus speed to 133 mhz and that should bring your processor back up to 1390mhz about 1400mhz or what AMD calls their 1600+ for performance reasons. I did this on the PCchips board and it works great, no problems, good board for the price if you just want a good internet/office PC
written by Static-X. on 12/01/2003
A good mother board for it's cheap price, it does the job very well, no good gaming performer, stable with all amd processors, supports all nvidia gpu based cards, but it has less points no ddr support, poor sound.
written by The Holy Devil. on 25/11/2002
Aa good board for the money but I rather have a good brand motherboard like Abit for expensive, or Gigabyte for a budget board.
written by Qxs. on 07/10/2002
"amptron" m810lmr (lan, modem, video)
and the manual links to pcchips.. so strange...
I ran this board with a 300W ps and a Duron 900
w/256mb pc 133, Voodoo 3 2000 pci, and it ran great in win98se and xp pro.
Then I bought a radeon 9000pro and I can only conclude the power supply is insufficient or the motherboard simply cannot run this video card.
In XP, experiences the infinite loop or thread stuck in device driver problem. Doesn't seem to occur in win98 for some reason.
As an email/websurfer/starcraft/old games
machine this thing smokes...but so did my Asus P5A w/k6-2-500 :/
For games made in 2001+ I think you will be most sadly disappointed.

All in all, I would have to say the PC Chips M810 LMRT Mictro ATX is a decent motherboard for the money - it has the capability of doing many things for the average consumer.

I am reasonable happy with the M810 LMRT Micro ATX motherboard from PC Chips. Unable to get the on board microphone port to work. any ideas?
written by Ron. on 24/02/2002
With this PC Chips M810 motherboard I can't get an ATI Radeon 7500 AGP to work in a stable windows environment. Tried upgrading BIOS (system didn't like it), adding DirectX 8.1 - it makes no difference. On board SiS630/730 works better, but I wanted a second monitor/TV out.
Written on: 29/04/2002
To be fair, the user manual VERY CLEARLY states that you are to use TESTED AGP only. Not even to mention the red sticker on the motherboard's AGP slot that reinforces the warning. Very clearly, your AGP has not been tested. Therefore, the outcome was very likely to be expected.

I'v got a radeon 7500 agp and in its readme it states that the motherboard GART drivers need to be upgraded to attain stability!
Written on: 04/09/2002
I used a card that was suggested, it still failed to work correctly, locking the system and only working at AGP x2. Avoid this board at all costs, it is rubbish.

I have the PC Chips M810 LMRT Micro ATX board and the system crashes and restarts for no reason every 10/15 minutes. Any ideas why?
Written on: 19/03/2002
Have you fitted an AGP ATI Radeon video card to the motherboard ?
If so, there is the answer.
I tried using a Radeon 64 DDR and the system crashed every time the video card tried to display anything other than a straight forward Windows display (no video, no games). I got so fed up with it I pulled the motherboard and bought a new one.

this board worked fine for me apart from frequent crashing under w98 however when i upgraded to xp i have had no problems at all... it has yet to hang!

get a more powerfull power supply man!
written by helpfullindoom. on 01/01/2002
This motherboard is rubbish but if you buy it like I did you can boost the hard drive to 25Mps out of a supposed 100Mps by going into the bios, then power management and selecting it to ACPI/AMR. If you wish to make use of the AGP slot their are only 10 or so cards that will work and half of them slow the system down. All in all an ok motherboard for a beginner's system or for checking email. ;)
