Fantastic looking car, good build quality, mine is 8 years old & still looks in great condition. Performance is fine but engine lacks mid-range punch that you might expect. Handling is very good & precise for the size of car, only problem with drivability is in icy or snowy conditions when easy to lose traction (not nice). Very practical with loads of luggage space. But best of all brilliant value - I bought mine at 3.5 years old with 22,000 miles on clock for £6,700.

“I have the 1800cc Turbo, 160+ MGZT. ”

written by mhsmith on 23/04/2009

I have the 1800cc Turbo, 160+ MGZT.
It is a fabulous looking car, mean front end, nicely styled tail and smooth, clutter-free panel work.
The Trophy Blue colour states intent and the performance delivers it!
It is my second such car and I would recommend the overall package to anyone looking for style/performance and acceptable economy.

“I bought my MG ZTT 190+ on a whim when I was looking...”

★★★★★

written by SteveZTT on 07/09/2006

I bought my MG ZTT 190+ on a whim when I was looking for an estate car. At the tender age of 24 I wanted something with less of a pipe and slippers image than most estates, and when I saw it with its gleaming monogram paint and black chrome wheels I had to have it. Then I drove it. I've never driven anything like it, the grip and balance are astonishing, yet it rides far better than it has any right to. The steering feels lovely, the engine seems to be smoother than double cream and the noise! I could hold it in third gear all day! Coming from a 150bhp diesel (a chipped Fabia vRS), it took me a while to get used to driving a petrol again, but in terms of driving dynamics, it's light years ahead of the Skoda. It has every toy you could ever want (my girlfriend particularly enjoys the heated seats), room for three in the back, a massive boot and that nice leather smell every time you open the door. To be honest, in the short time I've owned my ZTT, I've completely fallen in love with it. It has a character all of it's own, and it's British! Forget the me-too Audi's, BMW's and Mercs. I've seen few ZTT's around, let alone another in my colour, yet I see dozens of black 3-series every day! Boring. There are bargains to be had on new and low mileage ZT's, buy one with a 3-year warranty and you'll be laughing, especially when you've emptied the boot and you take the long way to the pub. In short, it's not the biggest estate and not the fastest, but if you are like me and actually love driving, it'll cast its spell on you and you'll be hooked.

In fact it's so good I'm already planning a part ex for a V8. Teehee!

Having had many tourer's including BMW, Merc etc as company cars, I was a little worried when the MG ZTT 190+ was on its way! One word WOW looks, drives and performs better than anything I have ever had? They are right to out the MG badge on the wheel, because it is so far removed from the stuffy Rover image that it's not true. We love it, 1 dog, 1 child and a wife, loads of room, been to Wisson in France so many times and it's like piloting a Cesna 150

I love the MG ZTT 190+ exterior look and the internal set up is well thought out, and practical, the only downsides are the fact it has no traction control so not a good car for winter, so much power and such big tyres make it spin all over the place when trying to get out of busy junctions, no doubt it will go through tyre's in no time at all, and they are not cheap.
I can't find a rear dog guard anywhere for it, the cargo net doesn't stop a big German Shepard from bounding through it to sit on your knee.
Non MG makes don't fit it properly.
Don't expect it to hold money if you're not keeping it until it's ready for scrapping, expect to lose a lot of money. But a good used purchase at the right price.

Being honest I love this car. It's a good allrounder. It takes the kids and all they come with. It can also be used on a daily basis and loads of room for that run to B&Q. It sits on the motorway as good as you get and will run around town all day. MG done well.

★★★★★

Without doing anything extremely radical MG turned the very comfortable 75 tourer into a great high performance load lugger called the MG ZTT 190+ that really should appeal to everyone including the maturing boy racer! Like me!

With the twin headlights, chrome mesh grill, elegant curves and a monogram paint finish the ZT (and ZTT) look great... be different to everyone on the street and the convoy of drab grey "prestige" Audi's, BMW's and Merc's...

Build quality and reliability are superb - I bought a 2 year old ZTT 190+ fully loaded with every possible extra about 18 months ago and not had a problem - not even a niggling rattle. The car looks and feels solid. It drives well (especially if you hold the revs high) and the firmer MG suspension tweaks work well as there is plenty of grip and it hugs tight corners and twisting roads fantastically well (the ZTT is actually even better balanced). Comfortable on the motorway but you do feel every slight bump and groove. Don't be fooled by the "lack of power" comments... just build those revs, listen to the sweet V6 and you'll find the power and torque! Or have it chipped (eg. superchips) if you want a few extra horses and better fuel consumption at the lower revs.

Depending on what you would put this car up against its difficult to place in summary:
very nice car but underpowered, with a power boost
could be the best estate by far....period.

The power IS there but the delivery is totally different from, say, the 205GTi. At small throttle openings this car is a lamb and tractable enough for 20mph in 5th but at full throttle and over 5,000rpm it certainly doesn't feel like it's hauling 1½ tonnes!! THEN it's "play-time".

I've had a test drive of one of those V8 cars. The engine has so much torque that it pulls in any gear, any speed. The V8's RWD layout felt very well ballanced and feels more like an M5. Nuff said.

written by jonesey2k on 11/08/2003

The MG ZTT 190+ is the best car I have driven. The ZTT is based on Rover's superb 75 tourer, and gets the full sport treatment! The supension has been stiffened so it grips really well, but it is still a very competent cruiser on the motorway. The 2.5l v6 engine just begs to be reved hard and rewards you with one of the best noises ever, and pulls in every gear to speeds in excess of 3 figures!. My car was fitted with the optional Alcantara seats that offer maximum support and comfort. The standard strerio sounded a bit weedy so I opted for the Harman-Kardon upgrade with 10 speakers and a 180w amp. If you like the wood/leather or the Rover 75 then you'l love the high-tech feeling and "graphite" trim. If anyone has £20k spare, dont buy the usual bmw or merc, go for the british MG!

Had similar feeling with torque on 190 zt-t. To soon to buy V8 (my zt-t is only 7 months old), so ended up having it superchipped, which has most certainly improved perfomance in bottom end gears. Worth a try with http://www.superchips.co.uk/what.html

I agree with Jerry that it needs a bit more power. My old Mitsibishi Galant 2.5 at 1,300kg but only 160bhp seemed much faster. Mine is the ZT 190+ saloon. The new 260 will be too much of a gas guzzler though. I get 350 miles max from about 58 litres which is not very good.
