“I don't like being ripped off ”

★★☆☆☆

written by wayne1965 on 28/03/2016

I have been with CN for years my bike and now my car. I went to cancel my car policy due to selling it and I was charged £50 for the privilege. £50, what a rip off for tapping a few keys. When I asked why it was so much I was told its in the policy and it was a charge to cancel the policy and let the likes of DVLA know. When I asked them if one of the staff was going to put £50 of fuel in their Jag and drive to DVLA to tell them it fell on deaf ears. To that end I will ring about and get my own insurance when my bike runs out Even D!ckTurpin had the decency to wear a mask when robbing folk

The cancellation fee is charged as the price you are quoted is based on you being insured for a year. Short term insurance is a much higher risk than annual insurance, if you dont believe this, try to get a quote for say 3 months insurance on your car and you will find it will cost as much as an annual premium.
So in effect the cancellation fee is in place to partially compensate the insurer for providing you with short term insurance based on an annual price. It is also there to deter people from taking out a years insurance where they have no intention of having it for a year.
May seem unfair but it is a contract that you have agreed to and all insurers clearly state their charges on the documents they send out. To be outraged when this is then applied is not right

“No reminder sent in post ”

written by Kelvin1978 on 04/04/2014

No reminder for the expiry was sent in the post and on the day after the insurance expired I got a call from some guy saying he was from Carole Nash and did I want to renew over the phone. Clearly I didn't but is this the way you do things and I have been a customer with them for over 10 years!!

“Waste of time with online quote and even got offended”

★★☆☆☆

written by Andiwalton on 05/03/2014

Tried to get bike insurance based on online quote. Found it very good , fair price, good content I called to confirm all the online details and were quoted over £40 more so was advised to proceed online to get quote as they could not offer that deal over the phone. I could not proceed online so called again for advice but they could not find my details on system although I was at payment stage. Then I was told that the first agent should have been able to sort my quote but after spending another 20 minutes on the phone I was given similar price in the region of over £40 on top of online quote. The whole point was choosing Carol Nash because they offered a good deal online. I got so disheartened at the second phone quote having gone through the same thing twice wasting my time just to be told the same price so I just thanked them and hung up. A few seconds later I got a call from the same person asking if I just hung up on him and if he heard it well and I decided to go with someone else. When I replied he said that if I let him finish earlier he was going to give me a better deal but as I was going with somebody else he was wishing me good luck not even trying to see if I was interested . I do not think this is an acceptable behaviour. Especially that he was obviously not listening to what I said when I called back to ask for help with payment. He obviously taken it personally as he took the time to call me back and make a point whilst I was still upset. I really felt that the first agent was very polite although could not process my online quote. He was also very helpful up until the point I decided to leave it . It is a shame that he did not get the memo about working in the customer service sector . I would highly recommend to issue him with his job description and perhaps removing him from a sales role as people like him do not help the company to make money. What a disappointment. All I wanted just to get insured for the online quote which neither agent could do. On top of that I even got insulted. The only reason I do not rate this one star as it started out well. Never mind I am definitely going to buy insurance today it just will not be with Carol Nash .

Got my policy details wrong,in first instance gave me excess protection when I asked for helmet & leathers cover, They agreed to waiver the price difference (there mistake) and the free gift (allow 28 days delivery) I am still waiting for after 2 months!Used to be a good company but it seems to have gone downhill now doubt very much I will renew!

“Instant Policy Renewal”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 07/10/2013

I delayed my renewal until the last minute, as I was about to change one of my bikes, only to discover Carole Nash had renewed my policy automatically and charged it to the card I had used a year previously! I rang the office to get the changes done, to be informed it would be necessary to cancel the policy, get a refund, (which would take at least a week!) and start again. I did renew over the phone but received no paperwork - so rang again... My policy had NOT been renewed at all. I had been un-insured for a week, but did receive a weak apology. NOT impressed.

“Double check”

Did an on line quote for someone and received a quote of £97.00 TPFT. When rang to take up policy, then quoted nearer £200. Queried quote from online and then they back tracked with poor excuses about slight errors and requoted £107. How can there be so much differnce??

“Automatic renewal - Not so!”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 15/06/2013

Received my renewal on 17th May, stating it would be due for renewal on 4th June and that 'to save you time and effort we will AUTOMATICALLY RENEW YOUR POLICY'. I realised on 14 June that I hadn't received a new Certificate of Insurance. Phoned them the same day and was told that 'although my policy was set for auto renewal, for some reason it hadn't taken place' Just as well I wasn't pulled over by the Police then and subjected to the humiliation and inconvenience of having my bike taken away!!! No satisfactory explanation as to why it had happened. I was put through to new business where the poilcy was set up again, but using a different insurer to the one on the renewal. Really not very impressive...

“Must Try Harder”

★★☆☆☆

written by cynicalbstard on 31/07/2012

I switched to Carole Nash from Motorcycle Direct as they were slightly cheaper and MCD managed to thoroughly balls up a claim I was forced to make when avoiding a young lady who 'didn't see me' and so pulled out in front of me. Sadly I didn't hit her so although my bike was totalled she didn't stop and it went down as a fault accident. Anyway setting up the policy was fine and they were if I recall about £35 less than MCD which on a £150 policy made all the difference. The policy documents arrived in a timely manner and they were quite helpful when I changed my bike mid policy. The problems arrived at renewal time. The policy I had paid £125 for the previous year (admittedly on a less powerful bike) had rocketed to £569! but they had managed to find another quote for me which was just £280.... which was more than I had been paying for my R1 on a city postcode (I now live in the sticks!) Anyway confident I could get it down I shopped around and got a quote for £121.65 from Swinton... I got a full quote with all the extras and it came to £164 for the year with breakdown and some rider policy which claims to pay out if/when I die (it was £4 so I thought why not!) I ring Carole Nash and get put through to possibly the surliest woman on earth. I gave her my details and pointed out I had shopped around and got a quote for identical cover for £120 less than they were charging. She then went on to say I'll see what I can do. She came back saying I can do it for £265 the other quote must be for less miles and less benefits. I pointed out that the quote from Swinton was not only at a higher mileage (8k annual compared to 5k with Carole Nash) but it was also with the same insurer KGM on the same policy they were offering to me for a £120 additional premium... She proceeded to bark angrily that I must of given some wrong information and how it was impossible so I thanked her for her time and ended the call. Carole Nash were great initially, when I needed to call out the breakdown (once) they were equally decent. They just took the chronic out of me when it came to the renewal and then insulted my intelligence by claiming I must of lied to get a cheaper quote. I'll try them again next year assuming they do me the courtesy of getting my proof of no claims over in time, maybe the deals for new clients are a huge improvement on those they offer to existing customers?

“Address change”

£25.00 admin charge when you change address, beware. Not all insurers charge for this.

MCE charges £40 !!! They can, and they do. Has anyone ever asked all charges if change address, plates, bla bla... no, then we get screwed somehow. We get a more expensive insurance to avoid fees, or get a cheap and expect the unexpected.

I took out a policy with MCE. I told them that I was moving in 4 weeks time and asked if I would have to pay an admin fee.The representative said not unless it was to an area with a different rating.
When I moved they charged me £40 and after writing to customer services to complain was simply told that the rep shouldn't have told me that and read the small print.
I think they nearly all do it.

“Address change scam”

I have been with Carole Nash for 20 years. I have just been charged £25 to change the address on my policy. Come renewal time I'm off to another company. they do not deserve any loyalty.

I think that all insurers make a charge for changing address and it seems wrong but I would like to know their reasons!! I had to ring my insurer to change my surname as they spelt it wrong (not for the first time), but wasn't charged.

“Used Carol Nash for a new Bonnie on the recommendation...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 15/06/2010

Used Carol Nash for a new Bonnie on the recommendation of the dealer. Price was cheaper than Bennetts and there were some extras. Had a minor bump (while parked) 10 months in. They took my roadworthy bike to their garage in Essex and expected repairs to take 4-6 weeks but refused to provide a replacement vehicle. After a series of loud phone calls with their file handlers I had them return the bike the next day and got a local firm to do the repairs.

Tried to insure classic bike at an agreed value. Told they could not agree a value unless i took a policy out prior to agreeing a value. If they did not agree the value that independant valuers had told me,Then i could cancel the policy at a cost to me of £25.00.All i wanted was for them to send out an agreed value document for me to fill then and send back with photo's and independant valuation documents. From this they could agree or disagree to the value prior to insuring the bike. They would not budge,so i went to footman james with NO HASSLE!!!!! So be carefull.

No problems with Carole Nash til today when I cancelled my bike insurance after only 3 weeks as I sold the bike...

I am now going to have to to pay them MORE for the cancellation than it would have cost me to insure the bike for a WHOLE YEAR!!

Just a warning guys & gals, don't sell your bike til your insurance is about to expire.

You're OK if you cancel it within the first 2 weeks though apparently, little consolation to me.

Apart from all that the staff were really nice!

written by leviticus on 07/07/2006

Initially I was impressed with the Carole Nash Fully Comprehensive Motorcycle Insurance policy, but now I am not impressed.

Carole Nash will charge you for your motorcycle insurance when you move to university, and then charge you again when you return to university. Basically, you will be charged every single time you move house. Loyalty to Carole Nash doesn't seem to be worth anything to them.

I will now be looking elsewhere.

i used to work for them and they think nothing of ripping off customers with over the top prices once they have got you on board with the cheap opening price.. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS... EVER

Does anyone know the consequences of not paying a cancellation fee? I have 3 months left on my bike insurance. I have sold the bike. CN want £50 to cancel. I will receive a £27 refund so I said stuff it, I'm not going to pay a further £23 from my debit card to cancel. I'll just let the insurance run. The chap said it was illegal to do so (probably not illegal but probably a civil matter). Does anyone know what the actual consequences of not paying are? Will I get blacklisted in some way?
